I notice the difference in the 1080 for sure. Doesn't look bad though but fully noticable. You could always upscale if needed as well. Good enough for sure. Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas! On a three-week trip to the UK a few months back, I intended to film dozens of clips every day. I had my MacBook with me for a bit of work, so I picked up a new external drive to take along as well. Every evening in the hotel, I transferred all the day's videos to the drive and then formatted the SD card. That might be an option if you decide you want to keep filming in 4K.

Thank you for your tip! Yeah, they say you are supposed to backup your SD cards to two drives while you travel. Sigh...I have two 2 terabyte SSD's....but not sure if 4K will be too much for 2 TB? I'll be gone for 16-18 days of footage.... I should do the math on that (hahaha)

@@TravelingAhn I have just over 2100 videos and they come in at a little over 1TB. Many of them are 25 seconds, a chunk of them are 1 - 5 mins, and a handful are around 20 mins. 4k 60 fps HEVC 10-bit (shot on an Action 4).

Thank you for that information. Yeah, I asked ChatGPT and it stated at 4K 100Mbps, I can put 7.5 hours of footage on a 2TB drive. Now, I'm wondering if that is not enough (hahaha)

Thanks Garrett for the feedback on 1080P. I upscaled in 4K, and supposedly that is supposed to mitigate quality of the upload vs. doing on 1080P timeline.

I was actually shocked when you said you were filming at 1080p lol. Im at work on a computer screen and it looks so good. I just ordered my pocket 3 a week ago and still waiting on it to ship so im watching a bunch of videos on it "we've all been there right? lol". 1080P is more than good enough for KZbin. most people still watch in 720p on their phones. it's only people with big screen tv's who watch KZbin at a higher resolution. for a vlog 1080 is perfect.

1080p is fine, but I have to shoot 4k because it allows me zoom, pan and crop when editing footage without losing resolution because my final video is exported at 1080p. I also export the final piece in 2:1 which some youtubers, like mkbhd use, since it fills most of a smartphone’s screen.

Those are good points Rishio! Yeah, a few years back when I was just dabbling with KZbin, I posted my videos in that format. I should think about doing that again perhaps. With the travel videos coming up and having just 2 SSD's....I feel like 1080 is my only option.

@@TravelingAhn Yeah, I’m trying to figure out storage myself. I interview people for my videos for 1 hour each person and do it in 4k. I do it in 4k because i post videos under 60 seconds in square format (Instagram) and 3min+ videos in 2:1. Without the 4k, there isn’t enough latitude to crop the 16:9 original file. I’m solving the issue day by day.

Merry Christmas Adam! I'm really glad I saw your video on the Pocket 3 a while back because I really enjoy our friendship. Thanks for the words of encouragement and the 1080p looked great out of the pocket 3. The only issue you might have is if you're mixing other cameras like the ZV e10 which is really mushy in 1080. You could just shoot that one in 4k and render it down. They also might have some after Christmas deals on external USB drives you could use to archive your older videos. I recently archived all of my completed and uploaded videos to one. I may never need them because they're uploaded to KZbin but I like having a separate copy just in case.

Hey Tim, thanks man! I totally am glad we connected with my first Pocket 3 video! Yeah, I noticed the Pocket 3's 1080p is definitely way better that the ZV-E10 1080p. I'm still debating on whether or not to take the ZV-E10 on my January travels. Your point is taken, but we shall see. Yeah, I'm going to transfer all the data on my two SSD's to my home drives. I'll have a total of 4TB between the two. I think that should be enough. Regarding your videos, wise on keeping the originals though!

Why not record in 4k but render it out in HD? That way you'd get a much better image quality and you wont be having the said storage space issues anytime soon.

Hmmmm.....I didn't know that was possible? But, I would still have the storage issue with the original clips, unless I deleted them after rendering the final product? I'll have to see about this option, thank you so much for the suggestion!

@@TravelingAhn When you downscale from 4K to HD, you're oversampling the image to have 4x the data for every pixel. Therefore, the image will appear sharper and more vivid than it would at native 1080p recording. And yes, unless you delete the original after, storage issue remains.

Oh~~~So I did the exact opposite. I recorded this video in 1080p and then put in on a 4K timeline. And then uploaded to KZbin. Does that still work too?
