I have the same auto. I wanted to trade it in because it is depreciated quickly and am now negative equity. Now that I've learned about this oil consumption, I'm going to bump up my payments so I can get out of this vehicle.

I took my 2021 Palisade in for an oil change today, before the mechanic did anything he looked at the exhaust and told me that the engine is burning oil. He advised me that when the engine is burning oil there is a heavy carbon build-up around the exhaust. Sure enough, when he checked the oil there was only about a quart left. My wife who mostly drives the vehicle also has complained about the vehicle just shutting off as well.

Good tech! That is a common place to see oil burn or around the engine/pan.

Hey not sure if this is too late, my palisade limited 2020 last year started jerking while driving it was inconsistent. I do take care of my cars but my husband assumed I had forgotten to do an oil change cus there was no oil in the engine. Eventually I made hyundai replace the engine as I had all the proof of oil changes. One thing I think it really matters on the dealership. The first dealership wouldn't even admit there was an issue lol. Eventually I went to another one they fought for me with hyundai corporate and got everything taken care off. Even got a rental paid from them

My shadetree opinion on new (2004 ish to present) vehicles of all makes and models consuming 1 qt per 1,000. There are half a dozen reasons they do it in any of these combinations. 1. Displacement on demand technology deactivating cylinders and using motor oil as the hydraulics to do it. 2. Closed crank case for environmental reasons that draws the oily ventings into the motor to burn. 3. low tension oil rings on pistons for economy that allows cylinder wall oil past rings to burn. 4. Thin weight (watery) oil used in modern engines compared to molasses oil used in old motors. 5. Small motors with turbos in many vehicles. oil used to cool turbo bearings is burned off or sucked into turbo and burnt in motor. All these items increase HP and/or save fuel. They also use oil in the process and they couldnt sell a 50k -80k SUV or pick up telling the consumer to add a qt every 1,000. Which also opens the question... how eco friendly are all these modern features if they take normal oil changes plus a qt to the atmosphere every month? It's not on the driveway like old cars. Best to buy a case so nobody goofs on frequently buying. And add a qt every month or as needed. Every new car blows thru oil.

Very insightful combination of reasons! I agree 100% on the modern engines being a large culprit. We (EPA/Car companies) are so focused on fuel numbers and forgetting the bigger picture. An engine grenading itself on a soccer mom who only follows the proper intervals is obviously going to eclipse any fuel savings for 1000 vehicles, multiplied by how many instances of occurrence. Tech such as cylinder deactivation really only help the car companies hit EPA numbers and marketing numbers. The general consumer doesn't care and for the environmental aspect, we are figuratively swabbing mayo into plastic bags while fleets of trucks/ships/buildings are pushing harmful chemicals into our ecosystem by the tons.

My 2020 palisade engine blew its engine during it 2ed 1000 mile test. Had no oil in it. This was 4 months ago. It's still at the dealership waiting on an engine. Spoke with hyundai and they are having "quality issues " with the engine suppler. Still no ETA on back ordered engine.

My 2020 Palisade has the same issue. After the 4th 1000 mile oil check, the main seal blew and all the oil poured out on my driveway. The truck was towed back to the dealership. Hyundai has agreed to replace the engine. Thank the Lord as we had paid the vehicle off two weeks before the engine died. Sucks as we really liked the truck. We will most likely trade it in after we get it back and will not be getting another Hyundai. Currently the Palisade is still at the dealership and we are enjoying our Toyota 4 runner rental.
@CoderMan11 ай бұрын
That's scary! How long did they quote you for an engine replacement?
@WayneReichert11 ай бұрын
It's been a couple weeks and we were told the engine is in and hopefully we'll get it back this week. So about three weeks they've had the truck.

Just traded in our 2020 sel awd palisade with only 59,506 miles due to the oil consumption. We ended up trading it in for a new 2024 Subaru we only had to come up with $3k difference from trade in value

Thats a good trade situation, with minimal financial loss.

I have a new ‘23 Palisade. I just did an oil change on it and noticed it’s leaking oil from apparently the oil pan gasket. I’m very concerned this is leaking already since it only has 11,500 miles on it. I’m debating whether I should just trade it in now while the value is still somewhat high. I don’t want to deal with oil leak or consumption issues down the road.
@CoderMan9 ай бұрын
Leaking from the pan is a different and more serious issue. I would have it checked but should 100% be under warranty and a simple fix.

I have a 2017 hyundai tucson and it's doing the same thing now. It has 135,000 miles but it was happening slowly after 120,000 miles. The hyundai service department is telling me the same. This is normal for this model car. Yet when you buy the car they don't tell you that this is normal. This is a lot of BS from this company. This is a big issue and they just don't want to fix it. This needs to be expose more in the news and every media outlet now. Plus every owner needs to have a written TSB or letter that states this is normal when purchasing or when they get their car service. No more word of mouth BS. We all need to start recording the service department BS explanation. The USA needs to step in and band selling these car until they resolve the issue or no longer allow this company to sell or exist in the USA

I agree 100%. Wish the NTSB would step in.

@CoderMan Жыл бұрын
I haven't found an active lawsuit. One class action was dismissed. I recommend traveling with a few quarts of oil, just as a sort of insurance policy.

@@CoderMan man. They had my car for 2 days just to do what they call a combusture cleaning, not sure what they do that, that’s not going to fix the loss of oil. Seems like it just gets worse the more I take it to the dealership. My dealership is not st fault, it’s all on corporate. I wonder what California CARB would think of this with so many card loosing so much oil into the atmosphere. Never buy another Hyundai again
