Here's an in depth look at the mechanicals of the Hyundai Palisade SUV.
The Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride are mid-sized SUV entries and are based on the same mechanical platform derived from the Kia Sorento. In this video we take a detailed look under the hood at the 3.8L Lamda II V6 engine, the 8 speed automatic transmission, as well as a look at the suspension design, cooling system, brakes, steering setup and exhaust.
Overall the Palisade marks a mechanically conservative entry from Hyundai, where they've stuck to more traditional designs in terms of its stamped steel suspension (instead of a multi-link aluminum design), naturally aspirated V6 engine (instead of a turbo 4) and a traditional automatic transmission (in place of a dual clutch or CVT). This will bode well for customers looking for a traditional family hauler and make repairs easier in the longer term.

You have great potential doing reviews like this. These are the types of reviews we look for, when looking for a car that is going to last. Using your knowledge to make a review helps a lot compared to the feels good in the hands reviews. Everything fails eventually, I like to see how easy it will be to work on.

I do like how Hyundai often uses more tried-and-true design in their cars...should help with longevity and maintenance over the long term. Given how huge a steel manufacturer Hyundai is, it should come as no surprise to see a ton of stamped steel parts in their cars...making their own steel is one way they can keep the prices of their cars lower than a lot of the competition

@@speedkar99 Hyundai tried to be "innovative" and then look what happened between 2011-2015. Fucking disasters. Manufactures need to put reliability FIRST and if certain innovations aren't good for longevity of the vehicle, it should not be put in a mainstream basic CUV or sedan. Unlike some of their 2.0Ts and other crap, this Palisade will see 200k miles or more with relative ease. I'm scared of what we're gonna find about these Toyota engines in the coming years. Honda is being exposed recently too for their GDI turbo issues now.

I just got a 2022 palisade calligraphy fwd last month. Put 1700 miles on it. I started smelling burning oil, though it was maybe residual burning off. Nope. It is leaking oil. Already had to add a quart. The burning smell is from the drip hitting the exhaust manifold. Amazing car. Gets 29 mpg on the highway easy. Impressive interior. This leak is a major letdown though. Great review. I watched this one and the Highlander one for comparison as we are shopping and will eventually get one of the 2. I'm heavily leaning to the Highlander mainly because it is the safer choice. But the Palisade seems to be better for repairs in terms of accessibility for components. I'm a little leery of the engine in the Palisade as it is new, even if its a variant of another version. Not to mention the highlander has port and direct injection which should be the norm these days to be honest. Having owned BMW's where the focus is on driving performance and feel, both these cars are woefully underwhelming in the performance department for the cost (at least in upper trims), but that's just my $0.02.
@speedkar99

Highlander is safer choice if you care about reliability and longevity. None of these two are meant to be powerful or engaging. You'd need an X7 for that.

@@speedkar99 Yeah, I hear you. I think that will ultimately be the choice here but it will take some long thinking. I just hate how Toyota misses the mark on several easy things. Did you notice the loud Valve Ticking from your vehicle? Or anyone for that matter? I know some can come from the HP Fuel unit but compared to my other vehicles, my 2020 Palisade is very “ticky”-67k miles on it.

Yeah I notice it on all DI engines ...you shouldn't be able to hear it from inside the car though

@@speedkar99 and its the same as the bronco sport. With ford running those goat mode adds for it, it wont be long till owners burn them out thinking they can off road in them and ford gets sued.

Typically easier to get the 2.0. In that case it would be the same as my Kia forte review

So many parts stamped or stickers with Hyundai/Kia badges. Wonder if they share those same exact parts between both brands to keep costs down
