I live in the USA and I use the garden liner it’s green not see thru but it’s a flimsy plastic and it works great it’s the size I need I don’t need to cut it out just cut the bottom for size and it makes medium to large polls 😊I get it from the dollar tree for 1.25 it comes in a roll

I couldn’t get the propylene sheets in the UK and landed up cutting up clear plastic folders - which worked fine. I didn’t have a hole punch but used my trusty rusty soldering iron. “Necessity is the mother of invention” 👍🏻 Thank you for your videos which always give good clear advice💕

You can also use clear plastic bottles and cut them in half length ways

I use the thin plastic pastry sheets and attach it to the mesh frame, still forming a D shape. It is not easy to find thick plastic sheets here in Italy, so I solved it this way. It works and it's cheap

I’ve been using substitute supplies to make my moss poles. As you mentioned availability on Amazon, I paused your video & went to Amazon. They had 2 of the plastic sheeting & 4 mesh left. I got them. Thanks for sharing Nora!

Hey Nora, great video! I've purchased pre-made poles like these, and have only used one so far on my P. Tricolour Princess - which she is loving. I'm really happy with its functionality, so will continue to use this style of moss pole going forward. When I've used up these bought moss poles I will be constructing my own using your method. I've already purchased the fir tree fibre (after your recent video about it) and will be mixing it with the sphagnum moss as you've recommended. Really looking forward to my first home made moss pole. Really appreciate your hard work creating quality content, thank you😘

Thank you Marcia. I am glad you enjoyed it. I am really liking the tree fern fibre moss mixture, it certainly stays moist longer!

@@TheLecaQueen Absolutely my Queen, especially the tip on how to wrap the bottom of the moss pole. you see I really did some binge watching as promised. I just could not wrap my head around how you and Sidney plant guy got those beauties to stay together as you lift them.😎 I am probably the newest kid on the plant scene with moss poles, but I am also truly fascinated how amazing the Australian King and Queen plants are thriving.🙀❤️ So I am starting very inexpensive and easy with a simple Pothos that I am at the moment rooting in GT and enjoying watching the root spring out like crazy. Sorry for ranting, but you have me excited…..for now 😉. Thanks Nora😇

@Oletha Cox I love a good plant excitement post!! I know SPG does not fold over the mesh, his pole is round all the way as he has potting medium at the bottom.

I’m going to try using PET blank stencil plastic. 7.5 MIL (I didn’t come up with the units) is what I’m trying but I’d go slightly thicker. It’s the only decent option I’ve found on amazon. I’m in the United States.

Heh, what I do is take an old flat screen TV, destined for the scrap yard, and removed the glass. Behind the glass are a few sheets of plastic, usually 1-2 thin film like sheets and one thicker cutting board like plastic. If lucky you'll get the thicker one in just the right thickness, around 1/32 inch. Bigger TVs are typically too thick but the film works perfectly fine too. Film does have a coating which can be scrubbed off with hot water and dawn that'll make it nice and clear. I've made some massive poles using these sheets. 😅

Hi Nora. Did you also add the Moss to the TFF is help with it not falling out of the pole? Funny I was thinking of doing the same. I cheated and bought a very large pole last week. As always thanks for your videos 🌸

Hello yes I mix moss and tff. I explain why in the video. Did you catch that bit? I think mixing the 2 brings the best of both worlds.

Can peat moss be used in place or fern fiber?

I guess it could, although I stay clear of peat moss because of environmental concerns

@@TheLecaQueen I'm having trouble sourcing tree fern fibre and I too stay away from peat moss for sustainablity issues. I'm assuming Coco Coir would work in it's place

Maybe I missed the point in the video but do you NOT want the sphagnum moss to extend all the way to the bottom of the leca? In the video I noticed the bottom of the sphagnum moss stayed about 1-2 inches below the top of your leca. I purchased moss poles with the plastic backing and the openings extend all the way to the bottom - I’m not sure whether adding sphagnum moss all the way through will promote root rot
@TheLecaQueen Жыл бұрын
Hello. I do not have the moss going all the way down on my moss poles. Especially because I am growing in leca, I don't want the organic moss in my leca also I think, I have not proven it but logic to me dictates that having wet organic moss next to my roots is not the best idea. Hope that helps.
