Scott Joplin's "Original Rags" 2-piano duet -- Tom Brier & Carl Sonny Leyland

Joplin's first published rag (he had published songs previously), was this one in 1899.
After the success of their duet of "Russian Rag" ( • Russian Rag -- epic pi... ) for Tom's "play something with someone else" number at the 2010 Sutter Creek Ragtime Festival's finale concert, Sonny, right, decided to ask Tom up to play with him when it was his turn to invite someone.
Unlike "Russian Rag" which they had run through once the day before, this one was approached cold.

I'm posting this today because Sonny is giving a concert at Skunk Hollow today, to be followed by another all-night jam session. However, Tom has a prior engagement with the Raspberry Jam Band, so he won't be present, thus this sort of fantastic duet between these two won't be happening, alas!
(And at this time of year, the snow prevents me from making the trip over the Sierra Nevada, so I'll be missing both this all-night jam session and one coming up next month following a concert by Mimi Blais. KZbin's "verybigrifle" will be at the one today, at least, and should be getting some video.)

@@joan9569 He means the swing feel they've put to this performance. A lot of ragtime was originally played straight but these two are singing this performance. Sounds great on any ragtime piece

Marvelous. For an unrehearsed performance, you guys really hit it off with one of Joplin's greatest rags. The two-piano arrangement gave it added dimension and depth, too. Bravo!
