Good idea but not to keen on the idea if the fish gets the bait also gets a chunk of plastic as well

What has been working the best for my fishing is the use of a smaller tube to punch through the bait chunk for the hair to pass through for rigging without leaving the tube inside the bait. I cut off a short (about 50mm) section of the ink tube from an empty ink pen to make a small inner diameter 'punch tool'. I clean out any residual dried ink with a small bit of paper towel or bathroom tissue, wetted with rubbing alcohol and pushed through the tube with a wire like a gun cleaning rod to clear the dried ink. I make the push rod from a straightened paper clip with one end bent back over to form a 'handle'. After the alcohol cleaning, I spray through the tube with soapy water, and and then flush well with lake/river water or rainwater to eliminate any scent from the cleanings. I push the tube into the bait, then withdraw the small bit of meat with the tube, leaving a small hole that will accept the hair. I use a standard hair rig hook tool to run the hair through the small hole, then finish with a bait stop. The much smaller hole for the hair rig allows the meat bait to stay on the hair more tightly, reducing the instances of bait loss to nil. No plastic is left inside the meat bait. I also use a short length of plastic or aluminum tube cut from an ink pen or mechanical pencil to cut a 'cylinder' shaped bait instead of a square block, and if the fish are being picky about shape I often smooth the ends of the meat cylinder to a rounded shape like a sausage to make the bait appear more natural looking. I hope this helps someone catch more of our finny friends. Tight lines.

I would love to see you make a video talking in depth about preparing and using pellets and meat for fishing. I've never seen anyone do it here in the states and I'd love to give it a try.

How simple is that lol, blooming amazing, i am 62 and have had problem with line cutting through the meat all my angling life. Thanks Charley.

If , by some unfortunate twist of fate, your bait stop comes loose and the meat falls off in the water, could the plastic tube be a bit dangerous for mr barbel's digestive system???
@JJ-cj1zy10 жыл бұрын
I do the same but i use a piece of shrink tubing instead.

thumbs ups from me works great, as for the people saying the plastic straw is killing the fish there stupid because the straw never leaves the hair when you reel in you have the straw and twig still attached plus the fish discard unwanted items though there gills or regurgitate later.....
@andydunnock81148 жыл бұрын
I agree. Certainly no worse than any of the propriety meat fixing coils and stops for sale.
@andydunnock81148 жыл бұрын
***** I appreciate where you're coming from Colin, but is it worse than boilie spikes, meat mates, or any other hair stop with wings? Then there are many artificial baits such as plastic sweetcorn, maggots, and breadflakes. I think they can regurgitate most of it. Having said that, I've always found a normal stop on a hair to be sufficient, I don't need the straw.

just pull a pellet band through the meat(pellet band hair rigged to the hook) or my fave is meat then bread crust with a quickstop to hold it proper during a distance cast. losing pieces of plastic in our fish/water is the worst advice since using wd-40 . you could even tie the hair rig to the straw then push it through

And another piece of plastic flows down the river in to the ocean... Rather than use a plastic straw just cut a piece of dead vegetation. If you find the right type you will see that it is hollow and can be used in just the same way as the straw.

Maybe give this a go with some noodles or the paper straws. I'm sure it works great but there's is enough plastic in the waterways.

Definite thumbs down. What do you think the plastic straw is going to do to the fishes digestive system? Better to use hollow reed rather than the straw, that will break down in the fishes stomach. Or just push the baiting needle through the meat and use a piece of soft twig or grass, or reed to hold it in place. Toothpick not a good idea either as they are quite hard.

Not the best thing to use plastic also if I did this on the lakes and pools I fish and the owner caught me doing it I'm pretty sure he'd think I was trying to kill the fish by hiding plastic inside it. Just use it normally so what if it comes off after a period of time I'm sure you have plenty more it's not alot of effort to put another chunk on.

Hi, more plastic into our fish and environment is not a good thing. Maybe you could use a more biodegradable material.
@CB-xr1eg6 жыл бұрын
Why is this video still on KZbin? It's a bad idea and not safe for the fish. You say the stop prevents the fish from taking the straw. How can you guarantee that? You can't. Think of something that is safe for the fish.
