How do you stay motivated while paying off debt? Visual reminders are one way many people keep motivated. Create a debt thermometer that you color in as your pay down debt. In this video I share ways to help you stay focused on your goal, no matter how long it's taking. What are some ways you stay motivated while on Baby 2?

Guess, what: By the end of June 2018, will be 100 percent debt free: House, car, and college all paid for. Then it will be about 6 month emergency fund.

Awwh, my name is Dana too. I am in my last 18 months of debt payoff. It was a loooong journey and I often got (and at times still get) discouraged but now I am so close... I am going to make it!!! I (feel like I) have been paying off debt all my life but about 2017/2018 I decided enough is enough and I changed my behavior and my mind to ensure this time its the last time. I now have my "why", a plan after debt payoff AND I work hard on reducing my need for money while I increased my income (less outgoing, more incoming). Again... It was a loong journey and it still is a little time ahead but I am so glad that I stuck with it.

I really needed this inspiration right now. I am looking at two more years and sometimes it seems too long. But seeing inspiring videos like this one really helps me a lot. Recently I wrote down my goals for 2020 and 2022. It helps to have it in writing!

I had a written plan for paying off our home and posted it on our refrigerator. It was always in front of us. When it didn't go as quickly as I had hoped for, I would very slowly read each word and think about it. We had a lot of set-backs - new roof on the house and garage. The day before the roofers came we had to replace our dishwasher. Car and truck repairs. Tools for my husband's job. Money that was supposed to be going to paying off the house - all in the same month. But I kept thanking God that we had the money to pay cash for all of those and not go even further in debt. Finally, I was so tired and frustrated with the whole "mess", I took the written plan down and threw it in the trash. I had looked at it so long and knew exactly what needed to be done. This is our life, I thought, just do it. I had been at it for so long that it was second nature and I didn't need that reminder constantly staring me in the face. The frugal habits are so deeply ingrained, I we can't be any other way. When the rare temptation comes up, my husband and I talk it out and we resist and remain focused. Ten days ago we paid our house off - 8 1/2 years early. We truly are debt-free by God's Grace. Without His help and a little-known book/class by Howard Dayton called Money & Marriage God's Way it would never have happened. We were so broke and in debt we could not afford Financial Peace. We actually didn't have the $40 for this other class either, but our church allowed us to make a couple of payments. Something I would like to add is that we got here by completely changing our mindset and habits. We worked hard to do that and it was painful. Now that we owe nothing to anyone except utilities, taxes, insurance, gas and groceries we ARE NOT going to abandon those hard-fought changes and let our guard down for one second. Nothing has changed. Those steps we took to get debt-free we will cling to, to remain debt-free.

Thanks so much again. My first step is getting out of debt, it choosing to live out of my pantry for 30 days except for fresh produce, and I have also cancel all subscriptions, so at least I can see that I am now saving money. That is really cool.

Debt is built because of the additional charges of using things like credit from credit cards. To avoid it, you must go to the bank to pay immediately after buying with credit. It will ensure that at least buying with credit will be exactly the same as buying with real money. If you pay credit immediately within hours of buying you will get out of debt in no time.

We're on baby step 6 paying off the mortgage, and wow, it's a LONG one! We got a great interest rate, and so it's harder almost to make it a sort of hair-on-fire priority! I ordered a set of large (2 inch) magnetic numbers (you'll need A LOT of them btw) and posted our mortgage total on the front of the fridge. Now every time we make a mortgage payment and it clears hubby and I go change the numbers. It's reassuring to see it shrinking, and wanting it to shrink by an even number has really motivated us to throw an extra $14 here or $67.12 there onto the debt. Somehow those little numbers that make the end a zero are almost more motivating than the bigger drops it takes each month, but maybe we're just weird (or a bit OCD). It somehow gives us the feeling that WE are CONTROLLING the debt amount.

To pay off a house in Greece it takes 30-35 years these days. If even you work all day with the 600 euro salary it would be impossible to pay earlier than 25 maybe, if you are alone. Only if you win the lottery. Anyway, thank you for the advice, your channel is really helpful.

You did incredibly well with 4 kids wow..........I was never really in debt and that was tricky enough keeping out of debt..........I got ahead when I was around 45 yo(now 54) then made another plan which was to get out of the system.....cut cable, no standing orders, no contracts, everything PAYG, no monthly payments,no mortgage..............and once you get ahead you realise it doesnt cost that much to live. Now Im into passive income and compounding in high risk high reward cryptos.

I'm a very visual person, so I made something for our mortgage where each box represents $1k of principle. Every month I color in a square or two (love the 'two square months'!). Aiming for 2022 for the Big Finish! That would be almost 11 years early for the payoff, and just before we start sending kids to college. Even the simple act of coloring in the box/es each month and seeing how many are already filled in helps keep me motivated.

This was a good video for me to watch today since I am feeling down about my finances and was off my cash envelopes this month. One thing you mentioned was that people in your life are not supportive and that happened to me at work with someone I am friends with who has no idea what it is to struggle financially. She was very negative with decisions I was making in order to tackle my debt like moving to save money to put towards debt. She was very negative and it just totally turned me off towards her where I couldn't hang out with her and exercise today like we normally do. I had to get out of the office and I bought myself lunch which I never do to soothe my soul. I feel like I'm very isolated at work where I spend a lot of my time. Yes, KZbin gives me a lot of comfort. Thanks for your video.
