Keeping Multiple Tangs in Same Tank (Yellow Tang & Powder Blue Tang)

Introducing new tang fish to aquarium and managing aggression!
Our Yellow Tang, Alaia, went through a crazy quarantine period! She was very sick and we had to treat her for ich, flukes, and more! Luckily, she has come out on top, regained her health, and is ready to go into the main display!
The only problem is that Rupert, our Powder Blue Tang, has well-established territory in the main display. Tangs are well known for their aggression and guarding their territory with their lives! This is a massive concern!!
It's too risky to put our Yellow Tang, Alaia, in with Rupert. After all the time we've spent treating her (and not to mention the recent ban in Hawaii on the export of Yellow Tangs), the stakes are too high!
So that's why I decided to build a temporary tank to house and introduce Alaia the Yellow Tang and Rupert the Powder Blue Tang in a tank where they didn't have any established territory.

Tangs don't do well in hospital tanks. Stability and peace while, in pristine water, is all most tangs need. Most people already have ich in their tanks. Use some of the substrate and rock from your main tank to make and cycle a proper quarantine tank. Make sure your quarantine tank is the right size for a tang. If you put a 6in tang in a 20g tank your going to stress the fish to death.

Totally agree! My Yellow Tang was only about 2.5 inches when I got it. But definitely the second I started focusing on water parameters and allowing it to get comfortable in the tank, the results were incredible!

Yes, they are all happy and healthy! Unfortunately, despite my best efforts to quarantine everything that went into the tank, somehow some green hair algae made its way in and Im now dealing with that. Debating making a new video on how I (hopefully) beat the algae.

@@vancityreef1396 The algae spores will always be present. It just depends on the bio load that fuels their propagation in the tank. Same solution- lots of water changes with good ro water, less feedings, and use of a protein skimmer (no canisters, dirty media , or bioballs which adds more fuel).
