Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the right & able person for the post of PM after independence. Voting was done & he was elected by the CWC over Nehru who even didn't get a single vote from the CWC members. For unknown reasons Gandhi asked Sardar Patel to step down which was a bad mistake by Gandhi for which reason Nehru got the opportunity to become the PM entering from the back door courtsey Gandhi which was the beginning of misfortune for the people of Bharat !

Hello, Madam! Although I am not a student of History still I am a witness of that period. There are many reasons given in support of the declaration of that Emergency, like an increase in the number of bangaladeshi refugees, number of strikes called by the leaders like George Fernandes, and the last straw came when J.P. Narayan(who promptly grew as a leader of the entire movement) involved students and also appealed armed forces to go on strike. This was the last straw and prompted the declaration of emergency. I remember ordinary people were fed up with a sequence of strikes and "bund"s called by the opposition leaders as it caused a lot of inconvenience to common people. The emergency period ended this all giving people some respite. Prices were also in control during the emergency period. The period of Emergency was called by many as "Anushasan Parva"(era of self-discipline).
