Love my gen 4, great work guys! One suggestion for the next gen: how about type of simple "normally closed" valve that will only open once the arm is attached? The risk of spraying boiling wort around the house/into your face is very real! I try to leave my arm attached as often as possible but this scares me the most on my brew days. Time for a gin basket Kee. Vapour infusion beats the crap out of boiling botanicals. I stuff my botanicals into kegland extension tubes above the lid and before the kegland pot still. It'd be handy to have a tri clover basket instead.
@KieranShort2 жыл бұрын
@@volkskrieg8735 I have 2 extension tubes plus a sight glass.. the order goes, 2 inch tri clover extension tube from lid, then 2 inch tri clover sight glass, then a second 2 inch tri clover extension, then the pot still (which isn't tri clover but you can make it work with enough brute force, same for attachment of lid to first tube). Between the lid and first extension tube I have a 2 inch filter to stop botanicals falling into the boil. There's not enough room even with all these tubes for all my botanicals for an 8.5L 20% double distilled starting spirit (i only have a pot still, so I have to clean up the starting wash a couple of times to get the fermentation stink and taste out, and it also gives 2 opportunities to get the nasty first runnings stuff out - this means on the final gin distillation, I can collect from the start and collect the really volatile aromatics). I also tested boiling dry on these and under this very agressive boil dry testing I had to leave the BrewZilla on for about 45hrs completly boiled try before the element burned out. In order to perform this test I had to remove the thermal overload and electronics to force the elements to stay on permanently for the 45hr period. It's just not going to happen.

I guess there is an argument for the controller to be always on/powered when it can act as a Bluetooth hub for other devices but in that case it would be nice to be able to put the controller into a standby mode where it can still be connected to Bluetooth/WIFI but no risk of accidentally activating the heating elements when empty

How's the rigidity on the new 35L distillation lid? The old one is pretty thin and weak, with 2 x 2 inch extension columns plus a sight glass extension with a pot still on top (all kegland bits) really puts a lot of torsion/mass on the somewhat flimsy lid. Also, I'm really looking forward to lazy management of liquor temps in the still by having rapt modulating the boiler power!
@KegLand2 жыл бұрын
It's way more rigid. This was one of the primary reasons we needed to upgrade the lid. We did consider this very seriously and we do sell a sight glass upgrade kit however sight glasses have two problems: 1. They are a real pain to clean and after using them for some time you really then need to get inside with a special brush to clean out the sight glass. 2. Most sight glasses are either made from glass which can smash and is not particularly robust or alternatively is made from polycarbonate and then we can't state that the product is BPA or bisphenol free. Kee you mention not needing to whirlpool but I brew a lot of NE IPA and would like to utilize a whirlpool. Is there an issue with clogging or filtering too many hops into the fermenter if I do this?
@KegLand2 жыл бұрын
As our pump protection screen covers the whole bottom of the boiler it's just not likely you will block this. We have added more than 7 grams per liter in the boil and it just doesnt seem to block so i really do not think woth being concerned about blocking the pump with the hops with this screen in place. If you really wanted to do a whirlpool you can but I just dont think it's necessary. These days we also seem to get more people economising with hops in the boil and adding more hops in the fermenter anyway.

If you use the Brewzilla CIP set up to clean another adjacent vessel such as a fermenter, you cant do it continuously. You would need to stop and transfer the CIP fluid back into the Brewzilla vessel. Unless you have a way of auto transfering from the fermenter back to the Brewzilla (and if you use a pump then you may as well use that pump as a recirculation CIP pump.)
@KegLand2 жыл бұрын
You only need a small amount of height on the fermenter to gravity feed from the fermenter back to the brewery. So from our experience no additional pump should be necessary. As long as the fermenter is about 10cm higher than the liquid level inside the brewery.

@@KegLand That's great news! That makes it better than the Grainfather G30. They also use a PID controller, but the probe is located in the bottom near the heater and they do not have the second sensor that can be placed in the mash. So the heat is controlled by the PID as sensed by both probes? Also, why isn't the fact that it is PID advertised? It's a MAJOR improvement and could generate more sales if known!

I have the robobrew 3.0 and still love it, so I'm happy to see the drastic improvements coming up! One nitpick: you said the steam condenser gets a garden house fitting. In my apartment I only have access to a sink tap faucet. Would the condenser be able to perform, or even attach to a regular sink tap?
@Denis_v1.0_beta2 жыл бұрын
There are several adapters that attach to a regular household faucet to provide a garden hose connection. I use one I bought from Bunnings for the condenser water for my still. Cost around $15 from memory.
@drew---2 жыл бұрын
You can get $2 adapter from most hardware stores
@KegLand2 жыл бұрын
Yes these improvements are quite a large step forward. With respect to the steam condenser this has duotight fittings that convert the input and output to 1/2" thread so most fittings at the hardware store will attach to this. Then you just need sink tap fitting to connect the hose.

I have been thinking about buying one of these for like 2 years now (well the previous ones) but this seems great, now i just need to figure out which size to get.. How is the 65l version to use with smaller batches? Is it possible to do smaller ones too or is it only go big or go home?
@KegLand2 жыл бұрын
With the 65L you can comfortably get away with batches down to 10L however at these very small batches you will start to notice your efficiencies decrease a little as it's starts to become a thin layer of malt in the malt pipe and water flows through quite fast. For small batches you could probably combat this by using a batch sparging method but we have not doen extensive testing eith the 65L and very small batches below 10L at this stage.

I like this Gen4 in so many ways! I can't wait for it to hit the US market. I will definitely want those side pipe perforations when it is available. I have a concern about the new bottom design. It looks better than v3 for reasons mentioned, but what about the ability to whirlpool to leave behind as much hot and cold-break as possible. I prefer to remove most of that before it gets to the fermenter. It seems like you can't do that with the Gen4. Am I correct?
@KegLand2 жыл бұрын
We do have a design whereby you can fit an extension and draw liquid from the side of the brewery and not use the false bottom screen. This additional accessory would allow you to whirlpool and separate this stuff but I am still not convinced this is necessary. It would be easier to let the hot break settle in the middle then open the valve on the side and separate this at the start rater than at the end if you really felt it necessary to do so.
@pscarpen2 жыл бұрын
