There's a kind of upper stratum of British male comedians to which one of these still belongs and the other belonged until recently and which includes Jack Dee, Lee Mack, Jimmy Carr, Eddie Izzard, Frank Skinner and the like. It's a matter of opinion whether others like Lenny Henry, Michael McIntyre, Ricky Gervais, Bill Bailey, Alan Davies etc. belong with them or with the next stratum with Harry Hill, Frankie Boyle, Alan Carr, Peter Kay, Rhod Gilbert, Greg Davies etc. And, of course, there's a well-filled next generation with Kevin Bridges, James Acaster, Phil Wang, Ed Gamble, Ivo Graham etc. and loads of funny women. British comedy is in good shape but the best one just left it far too early.

@gladtobeangry3 жыл бұрын
@@asterix7842 I get what you're saying, but if there's one surefire recipe for a lame show, it is the idea that "it's gotta have something for everybody". No it doesn't. Full Metal Jacket doesn't have a song-and-dance Disney scene in the middle of the killing fields, because it's gotta have something for everyone. Monty Python's Holy Grail doesn't include a sentimental breakup scene starring Renee Zellweger just because it's gotta have something for everyone. Schindler's list doesn't have a funny Benny Hill scene with Benny chasing the naked ladies in the showers because it had to have something for everyone. If there's an audience for a show or a film or a piece of art, you make the thing for them, not for the 99% idiots with no taste who don't get it in the first place. Let those guys watch another episode of Love Island or something, and don't try to pander to them by watering down what makes your show uniquely great for your own audience.
