I think you mis understood starmer that public ownership can be done without nationalization by using public owned and funded companies in the private sector. Like creating GB energy and joining the energy sector. Nationalization usually refers to buying out an entire sector and taking entire control of that sector which of course would cost trillions. Creating GB energy and joining the energy sector would only cost a billion not trillions. So you do not need nationalization for public ownership. Not defending starmer but i would not nationalize water, electric, gas, broadband. No It is better to join the market than try and take over it.

The interesting thing is that Norway has higher tax revenue as a percentage of GDP than the UK and it is sitting on a trillion dollar sovereign wealth from its North Sea oil ($250, 000 per Norwegian citizen). The UK, under Thatcher, was using its North Sea oil revenue to lower taxes on the wealthy before privatising. An excellent example of the Tories trashing the wealth that belongs to us all, including future generations, to line the pockets of the rich.

The UK is in desperate need of the following: *1) Proportional Representation.* Only with PR will any progressive party be able to gain traction. The current FPTP electoral system is not fit for purpose. *2) An overhaul of the control and ownership of the UK's press and media.* 3 very powerful multi-billionaires own and control most of the UK's press and media. They have far too much influence and are only concerned with the further enrichment of the super-rich. This has to change in order to protect our democracy. It doesn't matter how much those of us on the left want to see a move away from this destructive extreme neoliberal capitalism, and back to a mixed economy (like Nordic countries) - unless both the above factors are in place, the neoliberal status quo will prevail, making all of us the poorer. I greatly fear that Starmer will deliver neither of these, but rather will continue to maintain the status quo much as Blair continued the Thatcherite neoliberal agenda, albeit in milder and 'more acceptable' form.

@@lisadefries6718 a significant majority of the Labour Party membership are in favour of Proportional Representatation.
