Probably one of the most common sense videos I've seen in ages. I have to admit, I had no idea about the Bolt scam, but maybe its not prevalent in Bangkok. I've never had an issue with them. The Indian lucky man scam has been going on for ever. They stop you in the street point at you and stare you in the eyes and say "you are a very lucky man, you want to know why". My response is always "if I was a lucky man I wouldn't have you trying to rip me off c**t!" then I walk off.

Another scam in Bolt was after you book it the driver hits you up through the chat asking for a higher price to pay for gas or because of traffic. Also outside Bolt the motorbike taxis tell you 100 baht in Patong and then once you’re on the bike driving they say 200 baht because there’s too much traffic. Unbelievable

The fortune-teller scam has been around for decades. Never seen anyone but Indian guys doing the walk-up version. I first saw it in Bangkok in the early '80s. The guy walked up to me and said, "You very lucky man, I can tell..." Even then I could smell something fishy...I did fall for the "Grand Palace closed for Buddhist holiday" scam, but didn't get in the tuk-tuk, just went back to the Nana Hotel, and spent a nice afternoon punting...not much new under the Sun, except technology presenting new ways to pull old scams. If you've been there for two years, you should be reading/speaking Thai by now. If not, get started. Thailand has a lot more to offer than Patong, and Thai language is the key to opening the door...

It happened to me two days ago in Bangkok. The guy told me that I was worried and stressed and that's why my plans didn't succeed. He was actually right, so it freaked me out. Then he did this trick where he gives you a crumpled piece of paper and asks you three questions (all the while he is writing himself). I used to do this when I was younger, so I know when I gave him my piece of paper back, he quickly switched it with his own, so it showed all the answers I told him. He asked for 3000 baht afterwards, but I refused. Then he said he was some kind of yogi and had the power to bless and to curse (so he basically threatened me). I still refused and he ended with "God bless you" and walked away.

Pretty easy to tell the driver you're not paying them a baht over the price agreed in the app, although I understand the awkwardness of being in their car and being asked to pay more. I said sure, and the weirdest car turned up... a brand new Mercedes E class... and he drove me for 20-25 mins for those 80 baht no problem... 🤯

I had arranged to be taken to some beaches and to the Big Buddha by a Thai dude named "Sammy". He spoke good English and gave me a good price. On the day of the tour, I showed up and some other older fellow with no teeth and who couldn't speak English was going to take me. I almost lost it because I had thought "Sammy" was going to be the driver. I almost backed out, but Sammy agreed to drive me. I kind of felt bad because I knew he was potentially losing business because he was probably paying the older driver to show up. However, I felt scammed at the same time. It was really awkward. Anyways, my advice is always ask ahead of time who the driver is going to be when you arrange a trip.

Also, dont drink with locals on the public beach or at least be super careful about it. Even if they acting nice and you having fun, at some point they will just go away saying that they need to go to wc, but they wont return and you? You gonna pay for a rug they`ve rented at the beach and yes you gonna pay like x2 - x3 price for it or even being accused of stealing it (this happened to me) and as usual a cop will pop out of nowhere and will tell you to pay 1k baht as a fine. And a classic one, on islands ignore invitations on a speed boat, they will say that they rented and already paid for, it but its not full and they have a spot for you, to sail you fast to Pattaya for example, for free. You gonna end up paying full price for the boat and its not cheap.

@@keisone Agreed. Patong and Pattaya are a little bit like Bourbon Street to me, fun for a night or two and then i get a bit weary of it all. I like the Karon Beach and perhaps the Surin Beach areas. How about doing a video excursion to Surin Beach, by the way? I've seen it in the past with a vibrant beachfront nightlife in years past to being a ghost town at night after the new regime came in. Curious. Will be there in March though. Enjoy your day!

@Jetnick haha I'm from NOLA and the videos of the main strip reminded of Bourbon Street! I've been party jaded since the age of 16. But thank God you mentioned the herb and its legality, definitely can't live without my edibles and definitely don't want my hands (or whatever?)cut off for getting high.teehee

@@keisone are there any towns off the beaten track without all the party and sex sht?

@@GNARLOUSE Plenty of places. The places (Pattaya/Patong) with lots of naughty nightlife get a lot of attention but this does not represent the vast majority of Thailand. One need not ever immerse himself in this aspect if he doesn't want. For starters, check out Hua Hin and Chiang Mai. Lots of serene and beautiful places in Thailand.

Just came back from Phuket, used bolt taxis night and day, never got scammed once! The only thing I can say is the bar girls ask for drinks.. it’s their birthday.. or whatever As a couple we politely refused and they got the hint and moved on to the next victim.

Sushmita: best and safest way to travel is with the registered taxis or motor bike/scooter and the tuk-tuk... depending on the time of the day

In Bangkok there are these really nice vans parked in the streets and let’s say you want to go to pattaya with it, well next day the car that comes pick you up is just a regular car and when you complain they will tell you the van is in the garage, that’s why you got a regular car.

thank you for the weed update. so, where can visitors smoke weed? I'm not going to have private property when I get there. I've seen videos of people smoking in the weed shop and alleys right outside of them. Is that the only place for visitors to smoke legally?

Great information. I get heaps of SMS's too which you know are scams. Can not understand why anyone would send nude photos of themselves, you are just asking for trouble.

Don’t be surprised if the taxi to the Phuket airport costs more than your flight 😮

Mine was about $3! Basically a minivan pick up. Search around or use Grab.

In my experience that goes for going to the airport from Phuket. Very expensive and long distance. No public transport. Going from the airport after arrival you go van with other tourists and very affordable. But this was a few years ago.

Be very aware of pick pocketing. Use a moon bag/ fanny pack! Don't wear sling bags or even backpacks if you can, while out and about.
