Lance Hater Masters Iceborne LANCE And Makes ALATREON A Joke

I secretly have been learning the Lance to apologize for how good the Lance is in Monster Hunter World Iceborne. To prove how sorry I am, I went into Iceborne to solo Alatreon and show off my Lance skills.

Lance fun fact: since power guard (the blue glowing block where you bunker down) blocks in all directions, you can power guard with your back towards alatreon so that the knockback pushes you towards him. The ice cone, instead of pushing you all the way back to mhgu, instead pushes you towards his head. Great video, great Lancing.

It's been a while but im pretty sure you don't need a powerguard for that but just a normal block I think in the situation you are describing powerguard will even stop you from moving since you get a stronger guard(Can you even get knocked back in a powerguard.......?), and due to how the ice cone attacks works, you don't have to be facing it in order to block it(Something to due with it being more of an AOE rather than a directional attack). Same with the AOE fire rings if you are on top of them, if you block them wrong you might be knocked up into a follow up explosion but if you block the first explosion with your back towards Alatreon then you will be pushed towards the center which makes the follow ups not a problem at all. The knockback of fire explosions can be nullified with high enough guard I belive, not sure how it is with the ice cone..... it's been years since I played World

As for power guard you dont have higher guard with power guard, the knock back animation is just a lot faster (which is the 2nd reason why i use it) As for the fire thing yes but even guard level 5 doesnt nullify the knockback

@@zawardo5909 You are right, I forgot that powerguard changes the animations of the knockbacks. I always used the normal guard since when fighting Alatreon, Im usually not so far that stamina drain would matter(And always eat the food for stamina usage) or I just charge through the cone and eat 2-4 ticks of damage. I belive wiyh iceborne the blue flash of powerguard gives you a point of guard but its probably too slow to matter in this situation.

@randomblackhole9933 The counter clutch seems too risky because I never tried it on Alatreon. Even with the super armor it seems too big of a risk. I just guard advance to close distance, not much to go through moves.

Very clean run for someone relatively new to lance honestly, one thing I would have liked to see you do more is power guard cancel when you take knockbacks since it helps you maintain positioning, but other than that great use of the weapon

things I wanna point out clutch guard counter gives you armor but against Alatrion it's not ideal cuz of the lightning horns... as for a little nitpick you should guard dash more often it can save you from being misplaced by the monster's attacks but ngl you did amazing this run

Hey dude! Great run. I have advice though! If you got hit by an attack that stops your counter, you can immediately press X right after (assuming you're holding R2) to go straight into a Power Guard and either go for a leaping or counter thrust. It's especially good for fights like Fatalis where half of its attacks make your counter thrust fail even with guard 5.

You are right, for sure the chip damage would be nuts. I would love seeing you try doing a Fatalis hunt using the lance now, there are more opportunities to use it there. The reason i mentioned it is because it looks so stylish, people need to see how cool the lance is Those usage stats are sad

If it's not "flashy" enough, it's prolly cause you need to do some more Clutch Counters. Using your shield and clutch claw to latch onto the monster, no matter the distance as long as it hit you physically is pretty hype.

@duskyer As cool as the Clutch counters are, there was no way I was trying that on Alatreon to potentially get hard punished lol. Normal monsters sure, and even with the super armor it seemed too risky when I never tried it on it.

If you stand on his left(your right) and immediately clutch while his head is rearing down(instead of waiting for it to reach the ground, since you are wearing rocksteady) you will almost always get the wallbang. The flinch shot slightly tilts the monster away from you if you noticed. Thats the reason the flinch from your left doesnt always work. But this is just imo from exp, almost 800MR. Hope you test it out~

You should give Resentment a try as well if you want to keep stacking damage. You'll have constant chip damage boosting your attacks. There is usually not enough room end game, but maybe something for Lance users to try out in Wilds if the skill returns.

If Alatreon does a lightning attack, just Clutch Attack. Youll get the head tenderize sooner, and if you don't try to slap 'n wallbang when its guaranteed not to work you can walk around Ala and fish for a better chance to pull it off. The charge? Just be faster on the slaps lol. It's the move Ala chooses when the Flinch Shot works, but if you go for the slaps fast enough you don't see it and he can't run too far from the wall to avoid the knockdown. -signed, a player that's hunted this monster wayyyyyyyyy too many times to count😂

Everytime you get a bit of knockback when you guard, you can go into power guard and and upward thrust on any direction. Your blocking technique and power guard use will change significantly.

You're using a full safi set, try beating Alatreon without KT or safi, just with a regular barioth lance. And btw I believe what you did at dodging the 3 lightning stripes is more risky than regular counter the first two and power guard countering the last one to punish alatreon, since forward hop has very little s and distance covered. Another thing that is a handicap for lance is needing the guard up decoration, which in my original playthrough I didn't get at 200+ hours of base game, and I had to meld in Seliana which was hard because you need to give a ton of decorations.

@fromhl7619 Safi set isn't too hard to grind for, same with FrostFang Lance. I just wanted to make sure to only use a build that is possible at that current part of the game. (Though Safi rotates) I know the hitboxes pretty well for the lightning to just dodge it which also looks cool to me.

The first time I beat alatreon was very hard to me, I've learned with time that I've always lacked patience, I attack almost at any opportunity. But still lance is handicapped in several ways. Another way is stamina, which gets all eaten up by beams or multi hits. Thank God power guard is a thing.

fun fact. monster hunter tri made every monster specifically weak to certain weapons. and the two strongest monsters in the game were weak to lance heavily. which were alatreon as the endgame boss. and deviljho as the world eater who happened to be way harder to beat than the engame boss.
