fun fact: as a former server at a casual dining restaurant, I can tell you why the frosted cakes are gummy - it's because the overworked employees are leaving the whole cakes uncovered in the walk in fridge, which dries out the cake and frosting, making them gummy. you should ALWAYS order the hot desserts at a restaurant like Outback, because those are pulled from the freezer right then and cooked to order. the frosted cakes and cold pies are bought whole and frozen, then pulled whole from the freezer and placed, many times uncovered, in the walk in fridge to defrost. they can easily sit for days uncovered in the walk in fridge, then servers go in with no gloves and pull pieces out of them which they set onto plates to serve to guests, which is gross. most restaurants like Outback force serving staff to pull these whole, frozen desserts from the freezer and place them into the walk in to thaw as part of their unpaid end of shift work (yes, after working an 8 to 12 hour serving shift, you have to stay for another hour or so cleaning and doing extra work practically for free before you can go home), so they are never pulled and stored properly. At the restaurant where I used to work, I always pulled them and stored them properly in plastic cake holders, but regardless, other people would come behind me and undo my work by the next day. I can't tell you how many times I took gross cakes from the walk in and threw them away because the cake holder the cake had been sitting in had mold growing on it - and I had to take the cake holder and wash it at the dish station myself because other servers and cooks saw the mold, but they just walked away and left it, or, better yet, they took the cake out of the moldy holder, left the cake sitting uncovered on a shelf in the walk in next to raw meat and also left the empty moldy cake holder just sitting on a random shelf in the walk in for me to find and clean up later while feeling sorry for our guests. those cake holders are literally never washed unless a server starts feeling bad for guests and cleans it during their unpaid time post shift, like me. moreover, even if the cakes are in the walk in fridge, stored in clean cake holders, thawing properly, since servers are also forced to go to from their section in the dining room, all the way to the very back of the kitchen, and then into the back of the walk in, to plate their own desserts for their guests (yes, your server has to go get your cold desserts from the fridge, plate them and garnish them for you with no help from kitchen staff), many servers are so insanely busy that when someone orders a cold dessert, they just run as fast as they can back to the walk in with no gloves, grab a piece of cake with bare hands, and throw it onto a plate with no garnish because, obviously, servers should not have to both wait tables and make the damn food. but they do - servers always have to pull, plate and garnish cold desserts. so your cheesecake or carrot cake has most likely been handled with bare hands by a server that is slammed, after being stored improperly either totally uncovered or inside a dirty cake holder for days or weeks. bottom line: always order the hot desserts - just a tip from someone who had to look at the nasty cakes in the walk in fridge daily for months.

Another thing, outback leaves their potatoes out on the cooking area on racks, even over night, and when we’d come in to work, there would be flies coming in and touching everything. Yeah. Yeah, Outback is as offensive as if an American who had never been to England opened a British pub in the US. Like, it isn't exactly their culture, but it's British colonial culture, so it kind of is their culture. It's not like they made a restaurant based on indigenous Australian cuisine. The ex-British Americans made a restaurant based on the quasi-british Australian culture.

That’s very true. My Mom was a server at Chili’s for almost two decades. When I was a little kid the food was made really well and with pretty good ingredients. By the end of her time there she said it looked like a glorified fast food kitchen in the back. Part of the reason she quit is because she was embarrassed to serve the food for the price they were charging.

I can not express how deeply impressed I am at Keith's continued tolerance to inhuman levels of sodium, caffeine, and calorie consumption on these Keith Eats Everythings! I'd be dead on the floor from a stroke, next to Keith after 10-15 minutes. Generally, when Keith hits that "food drunk" level, that's when a week or more worth's of sodium, fat, caffeine, calories, etc. just crash his whole body. But his body goes into overload survival mode and he just pretty much goes black out drunk off food at that point. Seems millions of us agree it's entertaining. edit: 5 minutes in and the food drunk hits him... is that a record?
