Tripe takes a long time to cook. The server should have advised them to put it in the hot pot first and wait a good 10-15 minutes before trying to eat it. Also, for a quick cooking format, such as hot pot, they should have sliced it into thinner ribbons, so it would cook more easily.

She's a real foodie. Real foodies just don't go out to restaurants to eat the delicious foods, they start reading about the history of the dishes or who and where it was invented, etc. I did this when I went to New York and basically it was an amazing culinary and history experience of the American immigrants' ingenuity and survival. The stories that come with food (especially the mom and pop shops that were started 2-3 generations back) have so much beautiful stories weaved through their menus.

Korean hotpot usually put everything in the pot and boil it all at once’s and it’s paired with a lot of side dishes and a bowl of rice. Pro tip for hot pot: you always put the veggies in first before dipping the meat! The veggies will make the broth more sweet and flavorful. Enjoy the meat as the veggie slowly cooks and absorb all the broth. Then eat the veggies last , it will be full of flavor and juicy af😊😊😊
@harrislam Жыл бұрын
let's just say there are quite a few ways to do it. I typically go meat first and veggies whenever the broth gets too oily. My wife is with me on the order, but take the greens out quickly before they lose too much of the crispy snappy texture. The way you do it, the broth won't be up to temperature when you cook the meat, or if it IS up to temp, your veggie would be overdone having them down for so long. That would be my household's opinion. So yeah, definitely different preferences.
@wilsonz6796 Жыл бұрын
It really depends on the broth. There is no rule to how you eat hot pot, but the most common way is meat first into the broth. The meat makes the broth more flavorful while it cooks down. The veggies go in after especially if your eating mala or anything with oils, because the greens first would absorb all the oils and flavor leaving the greens all oily and unpleasant to eat. Mushrooms will do the same, but also produce more water into the broth making it more bland. noodles go in last at the end once the broth has boiled to the point of maximum flavor.
@gamesgames3318 Жыл бұрын
I prefer putting radish and corn first and maybe fishball and seafood to add more flavour. Some broths are already rich tho so it doesn't matter
@fpengu Жыл бұрын
i completely dissagree, meat goes in first and makes the broth so much better, the fat from the meat melts off into the broth, then you add the vegetables so they can cook through multiple batches of the meat because of how quick it cooks and by the end you toss in some brick noodle and its flavored by every round of meat and you have well cooked vegetables with it. But also hotpot is basically no rules, do whatever you like, just my opinion
@jdzl5 Жыл бұрын
This is really different from how my family does it which is veggies after the meat - sometimes there are veggies that have too distinct of a flavour or soaks up too much broth/spiciness that you'd wanna do it after!

As an autistic person and someone with to many forms of anxiety lmao I've always been really intimidated by new foods and especially by different cultural cuisines then the mostly American food I eat everyday. I'm really sensitive to flavor. (I didn't own salt until my partner started eating at my house, for example of how extreme my personal sensitivity is) Things that are well seasoned or have clashing or mixing flavors overwhelm and overstimulate me and I always get worried when I go to a new restaurant or cafe and can't understand or don't know what things on the menu are. What I'm trying to say- that's why I really enjoy the food videos Keith and the try staff put out! Eat the menu but also things like this, where they go and try or even just show off food they enjoy. Cause they tend to take the time to explain what they're eating, Keith does a good job of describing flavors too, and I really appreciate that YB translated or read everything out so you could hear the pronunciation and proper name. It makes trying new stuff for me feel a lot intimidating! I recently went to a Taco truck for the first time after I watched Keith, Zach and Garrick go to all those taco trucks lol

I'm a Korean Kiwi (New Zealander), and when I shared a flat with my uni friends, they initially disliked Kimchi. However, they gradually became accustomed to it when we cooked it with Korean BBQ. When I made Kimchi stew (with plenty of meat), some of my mates mentioned it tasted like their mom's good old casserole. Once they acquired a taste for it, they began incorporating it into their sandwiches and salads. Sometimes, I even caught them raiding the fridge in the middle of the night with the 'munchies,' eating raw Kimchi with their fingers. I honestly don't know the reason behind this. Now they go and buy their own...

I just found a Korean Barbeque place in my city and had my birthday there. We had Barbeque and Hot Pot. It was awesome and I was a little overwhelmed with deliciousness. The owners even make their own sauces and kimchi. I had tried kimchi before and felt it was too sharp tasting for me. This one was more like a relish and it reminded me more of pickled veggies which I love (my parents make Mediterranean food). My dad and I were into Squid Game and K dramas during quarantine. We'd like text each other what we watched and kind of rank them. Also found out that Tteokbokki is delicious and is commonly in a spicy sweet sauce (was not aware there was a sauce).

Korean bbq is significantly more affordable + hearty so its like a comfort food for me whereas hotpot costs more and I feel that I would go on a special occasion. A Chinese food I recommend that is a comfort food is mala tang and mala xiang guo, which would have probably been a better comparison because even in China, they don't eat hotpot on the daily but eat mala tang and xiang guo more.

I'm 39 and never had Korean barbecue or hotpot because I just assumed there'd be none around me in Florida but I just looked it up and there are 3 with a 4th opening soon! I'm definitely going to try them asap!

If your area happens to have a Chubby Cattle, immediately go there. (It’s a hot pot restaurant) I live in Las Vegas so there’s incredible food here. And chubby cattle is easily my favorite meal out here.

@@rachelmagana5142 Unfortunately we don't. It takes a while for stuff to come to us. We just got a Chipotle lol. But the places we have do have good reviews.

I would love to see a series with y'all trying different cuisines from around the world! You already kinda do it, but like Nepalese, Ethiopian, Ukranian, all different regions! Maybe with special guests who grew up with that cuisine, or lived in that region for a long time that can add some ethnographic nuance to the discussion?

As someone who is genuinely terrified of trying new foods, this series is so helpful! Being aware of the visible textures, the regular options, and seeing people enjoying things really helps me feel less uncomfortable around food. My husband has been cooking Korean style beef recently and it has been scary but tasty. And we like Ching’s easy Chinese cookery book. But I still can’t eat SO many things I want to. Please keep making these 😊

This is a nice balance of people! YB and Jared are a really fun balance to Keith and I like them both. I also love this idea of exploring different types of restaurants and dishes and things as an alternative/substitute to eat the menu. Still a lot of food, haha- But hopefully easier on Keith and crew- plus they get to feature local places or smaller chains.

I love both so much! I can't choose. I wish they had brought someone Chinese with them to the hotpot place to order some more interesting things for them to try (like pork brain, blood cubes, egg dumplings, etc). They also could have tried making their own sauces at the sauce bar but I understand they didn't have that much time.
@MiscellaneousTopics Жыл бұрын
Agreed! I also kinda wish they ate hot pot on a different day because, in my opinion, both KBBQ and Chinese hot pot are kinda “heavier” foods so it makes sense they’d be kinda full by the time they got to hot pot/wouldn’t want to order a lot of stuff like blood, brain, etc.

You guys made it all look so good, but the only thing on both tables I would eat was salad and rice cake!!!! I don't have these restaurant options near me but chicken doesnt seem to be on the menu so it would be a no for me anyway. Bummer.

Hot pots my favorite. The first time I made it was for and in my Chinese class (we were like 14/15 learning the language but the teacher was awesome and wanted to bring in food and talk about different regions and culture and how things were in China. The food was like we’re gonna cook and learn not only the food where it’s from and how it’s produced but how to order - what would you like pick your options and say them 10/10. If you knew extra facts about it or could say it in Chinese you got extra extra. we had leftovers everyone was stuffed so it didn’t matter if you knew extra facts you still got food, was more of just a harmless game.) Teacher ended up cutting her hand right away before we started officially cooking on a potato. the other kids didn’t know how to cook (rich kids lol I was poor). we made sure she was alright and I took over all the prep work, chopped up everything and got it set up for the whole class. was amazing I’ll never forget it. Food was great she bought all the ingredients ahead of time and it was some of the best food we ate together. Thought it was an extremely fun class. Dude there’s so many Korean bbq places in Chicago it’s like saying there’s no sushi no tacos no hotdogs no subs no jerk chicken where tf were you in chicago to skip that food? It’s everywhere. (The pizza is bad I’m sorry but a st.Louis style that takes an hour to arrive should just be burned in the oven to char. Frozen is preferable and that’s just sad) The thin mushrooms and seafood are top tier for hotpot besides the tripe and some thin cut meat it’s unmatched. Also you can order some glass noodles as well usually they’re good too.
@小周-g6v Жыл бұрын
hotpot is very regional the most famous spicy ones are from szechuan province where the focus is on thinly sliced beef and tripe and intestines and duck blood etc etc, you dip that only in a sesame oil +garlic+oyster sauce dip. There is a version from specifically Beijing where the broth is clear with herbs, its mainly super freshly cut lamb that is super flavourful and tender and you only dip it in sesame paste(slightly similar to tahini). There is another version in the south, or a few versions, where the focus is on thick cut beef or seafood, you only dip it in soy sauce, and the broth could be clear soup or porridge, if its porridge, than its mainly seafood at the end you can drink the porridge as its full of seafood flavours. There are also variations in Hainan or Guangdong where the focus is on chicken and the broth is made using coconuts, its a very regional thing. Haidilao is sort of the "Mcdonalds" of hotpot, it generalizes everything pretty well.
