Ship's hatch modified the suit tug boat customer 's needs, we have to narrow a stock hatch to fit the 24" flange width requirements for his project. We start off with laying out, cutting, and tacking the two half's of coaming back together. ;{)

Once again you provide a challenging project. Not just watching a machine repetitively cut like other channels. You have a real working metal shop with real-world projects. I am a loyal and avid fan of your channel. You give us something to think about. I would not have imagined that a jig saw would cut the heavy metal frame. My choice would have been a portable ban saw or a grinder. Learn something from you every video. Thanks.

I remember as a teen trying to use a bedframe that I found in the dumps as angle iron for a project. That stuff was hard and a high speed steel bit just skidded around. I guess some alloys are just tougher than others. I suppose a hatch isn't really a load bearing part (most of the time).

Have used Lenox metal blades for many years and swear by them. This is promoting them as should be. Taking me back to when I worked for the USCG civil service on one of their bases in NC. Hatch work - bulwark - hull repair that their MK's weren't allowed to do. Thank you Keith for the remembered memories and knowing that that tug is getting the "Best" repair it can get.

Lenox/ American Saw is in East Longmeadow, ma. Its right down the road from me. Nice to see an American company that still manufactures locally. I've had American saw as a customer when my family sold lawn care equipment, they bought American when possible ( Allis Chalmers tractors). My grandfather built their first building . I was spoiled with having quality lenox cutting blades and hole saws from them most of my life.

robert steven in a pinch I’ve successfully used a file (if the blade was cooked and no longer as hard) or diamond sharpening stone to touch up the teeth on a blade just to get by and finish whatever project. Ya don’t need to worry about being very precise like say sharpening a table saw blade or hand saw as it’s insignificant to how the rough and tumble life a sawsall or sabersaw blades sees. Just a thought if ya into tinkering

An oath to uphold the constitution has more meaning than any pledge to the flag. How many people would have the guts to defend the poor victims of the Mai Lai Massacre as Hugh Thompson Jr. did? The United States is at its most beautiful when it encourages critical thought over simple repetition of a pledge that was only used after 1892.

I like that blade. I suspect the curve probably backs most of the blade away from the cut during the up stroke so it can plunge for the next stroke without dragging the teeth backward. When I use a jig saw cutting metal, I wince a bit when the motor jumps up from the work; that's always an indicator that some teeth are getting hammered on the wrong side.

That's a really narrow hatch, hopefully it's into a space nobody is going into or out of a lot because that'll suck. Though I've seen hatches like that as the access into machinery spaces before, but they had bigger hatches (well removable deck sections more like) in the overhead to get big things in and out. Those blades are pretty impressive though, and so is that jigsaw.
