Arminius - Enemy of Rome - The Battle.
Directed by Christian Twente. Produced by Gruppe 5 In association with ARTE & ZDF Enyerprises. 2OO9.
Perfect Storms: The Lost Legions - The Varian Disaster.
Director: Brian Rice. Producer James Gamester. Executive Producer Michael Kot.
Born a prince of the Cherusci tribe, Arminius was made a hostage of the Roman Empire as a child. Raised in Rome, he was drafted into the Roman military at an early age, during which he was granted Roman citizenship and became a Roman knight. After serving with distinction in the Great Illyrian Revolt, he was sent to Germania to aid the local governor Publius Quinctilius Varus in completing the Roman conquest of the Germanic tribes. While in this capacity, Arminius secretly prepared a Germanic revolt against Roman rule, which culminated in the ambush and destruction of three Roman legions in the Teutoburg Forest. 9AD.

"We live in tribes, where discord and envy Calls for fratricide back to the merge of history We dream in forests with thick branch In fog and in silence of Epiphany Eve We rule in fables, almost nobody sings of, who hasnt entered the glow of our sunlight And late a name became flaw and reward alike to us But even our becoming was always passion... The roman limes cutted through our land The West and South cooperated with our enemies And they bought from freemen with big profit, the amber and some tin furniture. But even the tamed in the state of Rome, they reflected on trash and disdainful treason The Teuton (spirit) awoke in the Cheruscan and Varus became the victim of the german passion..." Part of "German Passion/ Deutsche Passion" a modern german poem about the german history. And since this video is about the battle of teutoburg forest, its fits so good :) I tried my best to translate it to english, but poetry is hard to translate O_O

@@KeithOSullivanmusic Have a nice weekend too :) The Cheruscans originated from todays lower saxony and since i was born in lower saxony that battle has even a bigger meaning to me. Because these men (and women) fighting in the battle of teutoburg forest were literally my ancestors ;) Theres even a hint in the local anthem of lower saxony (Every federal state/ region has one) to the battle of teutoburg forrest:"Who threw the roman eagle into the sand? This were the lower saxons!". Ironical lower saxony was never an official federal state until the end of WW 2. Before that it was just an unofficial name of a region in northern germany :( Sadly, most people forget that the germans spend more time killing germans then killing anyone else. We (the different tribes) fought each for centuries until the unification in the 19th century....So its not hard to relate to countries like Ireland and Korea, because we know how it is when brothers fight brothers (being divided). I wish that someday, Ireland and Korea unit peacefully :)

@Julia Gabel It's great you understand where you are from and take pride in it. Our Ancestors lived a hard and unpredictable life, it was their struggles and triumphs that guaranteed our existence today. The least we owe them is to hold them in our hearts with the respect that is most assuredly due. Understanding your Heritage is key in the understanding of who we are. The Nature of our Soul. Have a great week Julia. :)

@@truewalter4193 Hey this is a year late but I think you shouldn't worry about the idea that they "spend more time killing germans than anyone else" this isn't really true at all. There is little evidence to support massive tribal conflicts, except in periods such as during foreign invasions or otherwise civil-war like conditions. Traditional settling of disputes most likely consisted of the opposing groups meeting eachother on a designated location, and then having their champions fight it out until death or first blood. In scenarios where many members of a group committed wrongdoing they would be killed or exiled and the rest absorbed into a larger tribe. The idea that tribal societies constantly fought eachother is a poorly researched notion that stems from popular literature where the topic is often not the focus among academics and thus passed along. Be careful and always filter what you read brother, cheers ^^.

Germany itself took many Roman traditions Germany as a nation develops as you know and love it and as a somewhat unified German state not influenced by Rome like the Franks and Goths were was east Francia after the fall of the Carolingian Empire and that developed into the Holy Roman Empire so I'm sure people like Bismark and Barbarossa admired Augustus and Germanicus more then they did Arminius. This is clear when you consider that it is not a coincidence that Kaiser sounds awfully familiar to Caesar. This isn't to insult German culture it's just to make you more aware of it I myself am a proud German I just don't consider the ancient Germanic tribes as German though you can clearly see their influence at least certain tribes especially like the Saxons and Goths less so the Cherusci but anyways I would argue the Roman influence is equally as large. Sorry to hit you with a paragraph there but I have nothing better to do I suppose.

Very nice. In the details for your KZbin profile (under About) you should put a reference to BandCamp or some similar location where people can acquire MP3s of your music. The ominous tones would make very suitable background for our role-playing sessions of Dungeons and Dragons.

@@KeithOSullivanmusic I'm a bit closer to Ireland than normal -- working in Scotland this week rather than London. And streaming your music. :-) Another platform to consider as your instrumental music would really suit it is an unusual platform called Roll20 at roll20.net. It's a website designed to make playing role playing games like Dungeons and Dragons easier across the Internet -- I use it it for weekly games between London and Denver with old university friends. I've never looked into the mechanism for putting music on their site or how it would pay, so it might be a big hassle. If you do decide to do it, I'd be happy to act as a tester and then drop messages on some RPG forums suggesting your music for setting the mood.

Ritually slicing a roman woman's throat against a tree in rainstorm is an offering to the gods in the hopes of get more Roman maidens to slash apart. The rule of human sacrifice states that it's not what you give to the gods....it's the pleasure of ritually carving out the life of someone you hate and having a fresh meal with it. And don't waste the heart, that's the best part. Just hold it like an apple and eat it raw.
