Yes, most people don't realize popping locs causes thinning cause most times the full strand doesn't come out the other loc so they just break off wherever. Most I can say is if you have to then do it while your hair is wet or at least damp. Give it some slip.

Well, I wish you joy and success in all the ways you're creative, including your hair. P.S. You can start of paying to get your hair done for the first year, if you'd like so that you're secure that it's coming along nicely. Then once it's fully "locked, settled, matured", you can start doing it yourself. That was my plan. Now I've bought a tool similar to our sister's and I plan to start doing my own maintenance. Peace, fam. I've taken out 2 sets of traditional locs so I'd like to share what was shared that was also helpful. Please ensure that your hair is moist, wet as you work with it. Moisturizer, moisturizing shampoo, detangler, etc are nice because though a lot of product can weigh it down, the combo of oily and wet is a good emulsifier that helps maintain the integrity of the strands. Any kind of rosewater is great because it hydrates unlike strictly water, which can be drying. A rat tail comb, brush, comb and patience with yourself. It can be done, even though it can feel tiresome. clipping the tips can help to unravel the core. Please have good shows/films to watch, music or audiobook to listen to and do it in increments, knowing you're making progress all the while. You may want to have hats or wraps and start section by section so it still looks okay covered when it's not totally done. Here's to your success.

I started my locks awhile ago but never took the time to ever really part hair and that just works for me. Depending on how I feel when I retighten I might do 2,3, or 4 point rotation, lol, and it change from lock to lock. I have a mixed 4 texture so it’s often a struggle to get my hair to act right, but because it’s mostly 4c the struggle is real if I just left it natural so the locked life is for me until I personally can’t maintain it any more. Then I’m cutting it all off. I think your hair is beautiful. Thanks for the tips.
