Thanks for adding the date to these commercials. I was born in 1953 and grew up always wanting Kelloggs cereals but my parents only bought the cheaper brands like plain puffed rice or puffed wheat. Once you added milk the cereal instantly turned to mush and tasted like cardboard. I always envied neighborhood kids who had name brand cereals for breakfast. But my folks did the best they could for the times.

@@hsuehhs1 Even Clark Kent/Superman insulted Perry White, addressing him as "Chief." I don't care what Clark Kent/Superman said about the cereal. It was horrible. You had to eat it as fast as you could or it would morph into a bowl of mush!

Back in the days when sponsors were virtually "tied in" with the shows they sustained, Kellogg's, the sponsor of "THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN" during its entire syndicated run (1952-'58), often had the cast [minus Noel Neill; they could never figure out HOW to seat "Lois Lane" at the same breakfast table with the others] appear in an "integrated commercial" for one of their cereals at the end of the program. This is a 1953 spot for "Sugar Smacks", which Kellogg's was "pushing" at the time.

I toured the Kellogg’s cereal plant in Battle Creek Michigan. The summer of 1959. It was quite an experience. At the time they came out with cocoa crispies. Gave us free sample sprinkled on ice cream. It was pretty good.

Clark Kent is Superman, not the star of "Superman," Mister Narrator!
@percysmart9886 Жыл бұрын
Fun fact! There was something of a tradition for the Superman actors to be credited as Clark/Superman. It started with the radio show when, voice of Superman, Bud Collyer felt that children listening would be more likely to take the messages of the show to heart if they really believed the real Superman was the one there (think of the Disney parks casting). George Reeves was particularly passionate about suspending (no pun intended) disbelief! I wonder if this little detail-"star of Superman"-was something of a reference to that!

Clowns were not considered scary before horror film makers started to portray them as villains who dress as clowns to do evil in movies. Circus clowns go back to the 1700's and in more modern times clown acts were common at children's hospitals and many children charity events. It's sad and unfair how horror movies destroyed the image of a noble profession.

Everyone was at the breakfast table except Lois. I think the moral code of the day made it improper for an unmarried female to be seen in the early morning with unmarried men.

As Paracelsus said, centuries ago, the dose makes the poison. We need water and salt to live, but too much of them will kill us. Kellogg's Special K commercials used to tout its low calories and high protein, while showing it served with a heaped teaspoon of sugar being sprinkled over it. A teaspoon of sugar is okay, but pre-sweetened cereals like Sugar Smacks have several tablespoons of sugar per serving. That's why my mom never bought them for us.

Bad for you, too. You don't see commercials pushing junk food cereals anymore. But, it was the early 50's, and it still wasn't quite known, just like smoking in movies and cigarette advertisements.
