She’s also an amazing duet partner. She knows when to harmonize and she will dial back the power when needed. She takes a backseat vocally sometimes for the sake of the duet. No ego…just an amazing singer.

While Kelly's version is beautiful, I think Jelly's original by himself has a more tragic sound to it that sings to my soul. To me, his brings the relationship between a person and their addiction together, depicting the pain and struggle addiction creates in a person. It's so painful and to me is more dramatic. But Kelly doesn't sing a bad song. I just prefer Jelly's original. I wasn't a fan of Lainey singing it with him either. I love Lainey but Jelly does not need a partner to bring his message home. 🥰

All these comments about Kelly covering songs better than the originals must come from North Americans. I give her credit, she is a phenomenal singer and I love her voice, very talented and one of the top singers in the world today. I still like Lainey singing this better than Jelly Roll and Kelly. There is a girl from the Philippines called Morissette Amon who is the "real cover killer", Most of her covers are indeed better than the originals, she also has her own music in English and her own language, Tagalog. She is considered by many experts to be the best female singer in the world today. Ask David Foster, he had her sing for him and called her the "Future of music".

I'm going to be " that guy " and say the only jelly roll can sing this song. Kelly Clarkson sounds good, but not this song. Laney sounds good singing it, but jelly roll lived that life, I could almost see Laney living that life. But not Kelly Clarkson, I just don't see it. The lyrics don't add up to the way she looks

That may be but Kellyokes are covers and not a lot of time is spent on refining the song. Usually she only has about an hour to learn the song and often there is no rehearsal. But she does treat every song with respect.
