The song gets me every time. This performance reduces me to my lowest terms. Any child who has had a father leave without a backward glance, or a father that was emotionally absent and abusive but that stayed in the home because the mother didn't have the courage to make it alone, knows the pain of feeling unworthy of love. But we rise above by being there for our siblings, our children, our grandchildren, so that they won't ever have to feel broken in pieces too.

The reason why this performance hit me hard the first time I watched it was because I had no idea what the song was about. The moment she uttered "...and a father could...stay." Tears started rolling as the verses preceding it made sense so yeah, all the emotions hit hard.

Kelly is amazing! And she's so brave, brave enough to occasionally write a song about her actual life. Bless her. This song, I cannot listen to it without crying with her. Check out "Because Of You" by Kelly. That one is also coming from her childhood and teenage years. She writes powerful lyrics in her songs. And she's still so down-to-earth, truly a beautiful soul.

It doesn't get much rawer than that. Kelly my fave among the contemporary artists of today. Just love her! Your library is massive Rob, and would take forever to go through all of it, but have you ever done a reaction video to who many, including Kelly who shares a birthday with her, revere as the GOAT, Barbra Streisand? Would love to see it if you have. She's the only artist to ever debut an album at #1 in 6 consecutive decades, and as the great lyricist, Marilyn Bergman, once said, "The best singer that any lyric writer could have."

I'm 42 years old. My sister and I were physically abused by our egg donor. We will never refer to her as our mother. She walked out on us. Abandoned us. She had mental issues and was put on medication. There's no excuse. It didn't change anything. She was in and out of our lives, whenever it was convenient for her. My dad remarried and our mom (step) treated us like we were her own. We started calling her mom shortly after we met her. They never said anything out of the way about her. They encouraged us to visit with her and we did. Just when we would get used to seeing her, she would up and leave again. It went on for years. She even moved to the same state to be around us. Of course it didn't last. Last time we heard from her was in the early 90's via a certified letter. The letter said she didn't even want us. The only reason she had us was because our father wanted kids. She said once we had kids of our own, we would understand where she was coming from. My son, almost 18 and my daughter almost 16. My sister has a son, 7 years old. And to this day I still don't understand. My kids are my life. She didn't even know we both graduated from high school. I went into the Army at age 17. My sister married her high school sweetheart August 1995. I married in December 1997. Found out she died in 2002 which is ironic considering what would have been her first grandchild was born the same year she died. All I can say is it's her loss. I'm the woman I am today, no thanks to her.

I've watched this video many, many times. Every time I hear her say she was worthless, I break down completely. My story is very similar to hers. My mom and dad divorced when I was 5 years old. Since I was so young, I never really felt like I missed out on anything not having him in the home, at least I thought I didn't. Throughout my life though, I've always sought out approval and acceptance from men. My self worth seemed to be dependent on that. I met my father for what I consider to be the first time in my life about a month ago. I hadn't seen him in 49 years. He's 75 now and I'm 54. We live in different states, so it wasn't easy to meet, but he came to where I live. I was so nervous and anxious. I didn't even know how the visit would go. Would I get the approval and acceptance from my father that I had always craved from other men? I wasn't sure. My dad could only visit for the weekend, but it was the most wonderful weekend of my life. The visit wasn't awkward or uncomfortable. I finally got the approval and acceptance, and most importantly, the love that I needed, and from the only man that could have given it to me. That's my dad and I in my profile picture. My face alone shows how happy I am to have my dad finally in my life.
