Girl. Me too! Same goes for the emotion and humanity and raw realness that came through when she sang (and a father could)….Stay, and the wispy “sorry” she breathed at the end while overwhelmed with emotion and pain! Those two parts along with the “worthless” lyric were like pouring salt over an excruciating wound. It was just one of the most genuine, emotional, sad, hopeful, raw, real, and beautifully painful and healing moment of catharsis I’ve ever seen!

Trish Gift - Singing while pregnant is hard enough barely being able to take a good breath too! Your capacity to take in air is so much lower, especially with baby pressing on your vital organs lol. Hormones obviously don’t help either. I’ve sang while pregnant too and it is NOT EASY.

Yes, she wrote this song about the contrast between her father and how he treated her.......vs her husband and the kind of father he was to their daughter at the time. She was pregnant with their second child, their son, at this particular performance. I think she still cries every time she sings it. I saw her in concert a few years ago and she sang this and she cried and I sobbed because my ex broke our daughter's heart like that too.

I went thru the foster care system for ALMOST 10 yrs with my family. I was finally adopted in 6th grade at age 11 and my Popo (Dad) was like my best friend. I won't go into everything here but it was a lot emotionally going back & forth to my orphanage every 3 weeks to deal with ppl who could really care nothing for you or didn't show up 1/2 thr time. When she says she felt lile he couldn't get anything from her so she was worthless to him...I was like YUP! It waa found out later my the authorities that my bio mother had a scheme going to traffic me & some of my bio sisters so that's partly why this song touches me. Trust me~sometimes BLOOD isn't even close to being your REAL BLOOD in your life if you know what I mean. Being there IS the only thing that counts and they didn't fail me on that. I came from a total OF 14 kids of HERS and I struck gold when it comes my parents. We didn't always have a lot of material things but we ALWAYS had a lot of love and laughter AND safety in our house. 😉❤😎
