Apparently Atlantic had to drop a bunch of artist, and I feel like they probably gave some artist the option. That’s just my guess from a quick article I skimmed through. Faouzia is also independent now, also from Atlantic.

Going independent will be an uphill battle if she wants to see commercial success. Unless she will put a lot of her own money into her marketing. This is an interesting move because it's not like Kelly would have a hard time finding another label if she wasn't happy with Atlantic.

I think she’s at a point that she doesn’t care much about commercial success. She knows who her fans are and if she gains new fans it’s a plus. I feel she just wants free reign in her career

She'll be okay I think, she might still have a distribution company handle the commercial aspects of the business for her. Plus she's still relevant after 20 years which is amazing! So maybe commercial success at this point isn't a priority

I hope this helps her. She’s been going through the motions from a commercial perspective, for quite a few years now. A record company that proves itself unable to turn « When Christmas Comes Around » into the blockbuster hit that it should have been, really doesn’t deserve her.
