The Dance - this song is on my IPod and is one of the many songs that I listened to while trying to honor my son who died while serving our country. This IPod I listened to while training for the Rock N Roll 1/2 Marathon in Savannah, GA in 2005 and every time "The Dance" played I would get a renewed sense of purpose and felt like my boy was closer to me. I have been a fan of Garth Brooks since his early days and love all of his songs but this one has a whole new meaning to me. I was glad to come across this interview because I was going thru exactly the same thing Kelly was going thru after 35 years of marriage. And this song was that turning point for me as well. I was able to consider all the incredible opportunities I'd had that many don't get to experience such as living, working, studying and traveling abroad; taking cruises. And we remain in contact. The song made me realize how truly blessed I'd been. It's difficult to explain, but the it was like a switch light that took me from the darkness of just putting one foot in front of the other to the light of beginning of feeling content and making plans concerning my future. So yeah, I realized the pain of the divorce was much more short lived (though still took about 3 years to get over) than the years of opportunities I had when I was married. I will be forever grateful for The Dance.

They argued a lot, my mom was depressed, my dad spent as much time away as he could, and they both ended up cheating. Every time I hear this song, my heart breaks all over again because I think of an amazing dog I rescued who passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly at 6.5 yrs old in Nov 2016 of lymphoma cancer. Pepper was a gorgeous, jet black, Flat-Coated Retriever and although he was deaf, we had this special way of communicating - mostly through our own sign language - and such an incredible, indescribable bond because we were both underdogs fighting our own fears and needed each other get through the day. He was fearful of and aggressive toward other dogs because he'd been picked on by big dogs in his previous home and my military-related PTSD made me fearful and distrusting of people so we were perfect medicine for each other :=) Pepper was my constant companion and when he died it took the living out of MY life, too. I LOVED that beautiful boy to the moon and back and with all of my heart and soul and I will cherish the memories I had with him until the day I take my last breath. Nearly 5 yrs. later and I'm still grieving :-(
