Darling the word your looking for in regard to how it flows is drape. The cotton doesn't have a nice drape. Your work is absolutely beautiful 🤩

I am starting with some wool knitting yarn I got on sale. It’s a PITA to work with, but by golly, I bought it so I’m going to use it. 😂. It’s intended for a guitar strap to start and a scarf later when I ready to work wider.

Such a useful video. I'm hoping that you'll do a video showing which yarns to use to make finer scarves, for more dressy occasions. Wondering what type of yarn you use, since you don't like cotton.

Thanks so much to share this information with us. 💝. Am I right saying that I saw a beautiful coverlet in the background ? 🤔 Gorgeous 🤩
@KellyCasanova
@KellyCasanova 2 жыл бұрын
Well, it's not a coverlet completed, but it is a coverlet experiment 😊 I didn't sett it close enough, so the floats are a bit too loose (you can't see that from a distance) to use as a coverlet. I like the way it looks so it's hanging out in my studio for now 😉

Loved your beginner scarf, using all types and colored yarns. Did you use several shuttle sticks and just wind the amount you had left over?
@KellyCasanova
@KellyCasanova 2 жыл бұрын
I used what stick shuttles I had at the time (I think I only had 2!) and the rest I wound into little balls or yarn butterflies to pass through.

What do you think about super wash merino? I do like it and there are so many options online. It doesn't "full" when washed, but it's quite nice. Are the fingering weight scarves made with super wash or something else?
@KellyCasanova
@KellyCasanova 2 жыл бұрын
I use superwash merino all the time - it is what is readily available from the mills I buy from, they don't tend to have much in the way of non superwash. So yes, most of my woollen scarves you see are made with it.

One of our local yarn stores hates it when people test yarn by rubbing it on their faces or other skin. "If you rub, you buy". Guess that's fair enough, who wants to buy a ball of yarn with someone else's makeup/skin cells/germs or whatever smeared on it!
@KellyCasanova
@KellyCasanova 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, true 😂 I guess an alternative would be the inside of your wrist? You can tell I've never owned a yarn shop, I would probably be driven crazy by customers handling the yarn too much!

@KellyCasanova

You can Julie. The basic set up is for plain weave, the actual technique is worked at the front of the loom using your hands 😊

WOW I love the 1st scarf you weave looks great; any idea for weaving very thin for shirts making one my Ashford #24 4shaft loom??. What you think? please leave me a message if any idea thank you.
@KellyCasanova
@KellyCasanova Жыл бұрын
Weaving really thin fabric is challenging, but you need a really light yarn. I have found 10/2 cotton to be quite good for garment making but I would consider going lighter than that for a man's shirt (I'm guessing it's a man's shirt you're wanting to weave?)

@@KellyCasanova Yes mostly men shirt in Asian style; lovely thank you! I still don`t know much about yarn weight and now when you say that I will have to look in to just very thin cotton 10/2 or thiner and be back to you for more informations about dying yarn thank you again.

When you say cotton fingering weight, what does that correspond to? Like 8/2, etc.?
@KellyCasanova
@KellyCasanova 2 жыл бұрын
It doesn't usually correspond because we're talking about knitting yarns. But I would say it's similar to a 8/4, though 8/4 is generally a bit lighter.

@@KellyCasanova Thanks for responding so quickly, Kelly. Do you happen to remember how much you used, and the email, or street address, or telephone of the mills? My big problem is that I m buying yarns online. So I ve spent lot of money for yarns that are not soft at all...
@KellyCasanova
@KellyCasanova 2 жыл бұрын
I buy pretty much all of mine online too. Because I was a knitter prior to weaving, I already knew of a lot of soft yarns. One thing I didn't mention is that some companies or stockists will send you a sample card if you ask for it - that is a great way to test the look and feel of a yarn before purchasing.
