You're right, he has a very unique sound... I could imagine Alice Cooper could have done an interesting take on this, he's got similarly "dirty" sounding voice.

It was borne of his soul. And he poured out everything into this album. Making it one of the best albums ever made. Sound and soul is what makes it. Younger bands. Take heed. If ya make a song, pour every emotion in your heart into it. Cry, crack, make people feel what you feel. That's power. And that's what makes something people will remember.

This is such a beautiful song. So much emotion and so powerful. I wanted to add it to my laundry list of requests, but didn't. The album it's on is a concept album that is the soundtrack for a film called The Crimson Idol. I've not seen it, but I'll get to it soon, I hope. Another song by WASP that I'll recommend is Forever Free. It's another powerful and emotional song. #MetalChickPick

Thanks for playing my song. I had a great birthday. Blackie Lawless the lead singer and founder of the band has never come out and said what it stands for. Their debut album had the words We Are Sexual Perverts on it, while others say it stands for White Anglo-Saxon Protestant. He has also said it stands for we ain't sure pal, and also that it is just a bug. Another favorite song of thiers is Wild Child. That was my nickname in high school, I graduated in 1986.

One of my favorites from W.A.S.P.... True story: I was so afraid of these guys when they first came out...just because of the pictures of blood and gore surrounding them in the magazines and album cover. I thought they were demonic...and with a moniker of WE.ARE.SEX.PERVERTS. well, that didn't help either. But one day about 7 or 8 months after they came out I saw a clear vinyl single of "F**k Like A Beast" at a record store and thought, okay...this might be a collectors item one day so I bought it and since then have never regretted giving this band a chance. Blackie RULES !! And yes...still got the album up on the closet shelf.

Dude, you gotta get Still Not Black Enough. It's an amazing album and builds on many of the themes from TCI. Not a "sequel" but there are some references to crimson/red and Jonathan. If you like Lawless ballads, you cannot find anything more emotive than "Holding On" and "Breathe" (both from SNBE). And if you can find all the singles or the international releases with bonus tracks, you'll be treated to the most cover songs within a single album's recording sessions. Jefferson Airplane - "Somebody To Love" AC/DC - "Whole Lotta Rosie" AC/DC - "It's A Long Way To The Top" Queen - "Tie Your Mother Down" and, if you include the TCI album's singles / bonus tracks : Led Zeppelin - "When The Levee Breaks"

haha yeah! Just what basically commented. Exactly right! Their 80's was cool and fun but they grew into something very, very, very talented! WASP is like the only band I can even think of where I like their latter stuff more than their 80's stuff and to me the 80's is the pinnacle of metal. Not the case with WASP. They blossomed into something out of this world.

Indisputable. His voice is legendary. Many could argue Dio perhaps but it's all subjective and variety makes the spice of life. I say equals. There may be a few others on the same level too but when talking about likes of Blackie, your talking about a very small group now of the best of the best no matter how ya slice it.

The whole "crimson idol" concept-album is really worth a try. Fantastic songs with great lyrics. Never got the attention that it deserved, cause it was released in those years when Grunge was big. But if you like ballads like "The Idol", you should listen to "Forever free" from the "Headless children" album, another great masterpiece from WASP. And... you nice people brought a big smile into my face today: Cum on feel the noize from Quiet Riot! Yeah!! Love you both!! This was THE song, that infected me with the Heavy Metal-virus. Back in `83, on a boring trip with the family one sunday afternoon, listening to radio-recorded stuff on a (cheap) mc with my cousin's (really cheap) walkman and those crapy headphones we used to have those days... and I'll never forget this nearly orgiastic moment when that song started my "metal fever" with the first riff.

The Idol is biographical, though Blackie has always denied it. You need to listen to the whole CD to give it context.

Well the PRMC said at one time WASP stood for We Are Sexual Perverts but that was the parental advisory that labeled bands as Bad or whatever in the 80's. I LOVE WASP you should check out some of the new stuff Blackie is still writing and singing as the head of WASP!

They look like they need to get a room sometimes when he starts rubbing her arm. The lead guitar on this track was the late Bob Kulick brother to Bruce Kulick of KISS. Bob Kulick influenced me greatly as a guitar player. He plays with such emotion. RIP Bob we still enjoy all your music.
