Culling the weak is an excellent alternative to ashnod’s altar. It gives the 4 mana needed to equip nim’s deathmantle, which makes going infinite way easier. Basically any creature can be used to combo off, and you litterally win the game if you have one of the 4 drainers on the board.

It's refreshing to see a Dimir commander that isn't a mill deck. I think Priest of Gix and Decaying Soil would be fun in this deck
