Reorganizing my art studio + painting a master study! ✎ a productive oil painting vlog

I've honestly been a bit frustrated with my oil painting skills lately, and you know what that means-- master studies! I've been doing a lot of these lately and I think this is the best one yet.
Loose but deliberate brushwork is one of the skills I desperately want to have and absolutely suck at. Luckily, Willard Metcalf is an American impressionist whose work perfectly embodies what mine lacks, so I'm taking a page out of his book and deconstructing one of his oil paintings.
We also organize the studio a little bit thanks to some bins from HAY, bake Paska (an Eastern European easter sweet bread) and hang up some string lights!

I can be the same way with drawing. While i do skech often, its not super enjoyable for me. However drawing in pastels, conte, or charcoal has helped me enjoy the process more. I can block in big shapes quickly and erase out others with ease to give me some feeling of that push and pull you get in painting.

you guys should try charcoal powder and a sponge brush! It helps block in big shapes but can feel very painterly !

Fantastic ❤️🙌 First, that chair is everything!! I’d love it in Mustard yellow. Also, I was thinking, if you consider yourself more of a sculpting painter and don’t really enjoy drawing, a great way to practice painting without drawing would be to train with clay. We used to do it in school. For portraits, build an anatomical head, for landscapes, break down the anatomy of trees, rocks, etc.. 👌Great video!!

I love watching your videos, you're doing a beautiful job on your study! Btw the technique you're doing where you take away some of the paint to reveal the underpainting or yellow ground is called subtractive glaze its an old masters method and one of my favourite!

Have you dried drawing by laying down shapes of values, instead of starting with contour lines?

Lovely video I'm trying to achieve the same thing becoming a full time artist with my YT channel ,patreon etc. expect in my case it's more of a retirement plan lol. I'm more then twice your age.I love I have children your age but they are not have as focused and mature as you are your parents should be proud!
