Madeira is a hidden gem. Most Americans including me never heard of it until my teen son begged me to go there. Owned by Portugal so very budget friendly, year round mild weather, absolutely safe, considered the Hawaii of Europe. I’ve been to Hawaii too so I agree that the geography is similar. My son now wants to live there when he’s adult
