amen to that. this is a hard to find video. I'm still trying to find out if I can do a wet/ dry/wet using the new G3 switcher, allowing me freedom to have stereo pedal effects going into kemper looper (and amp ) and then out to two passive cabs (wet left/ wet right) and then signal from drive pedals to a seperate dry amp..AND/OR just the pedals to kemper or pedals to kemper or just the Kemper with switcher control...I think I just confused myself. I need a miracle switcher that can do it all. stereo w/d/w with midi control and looper switchboard to control multiple options between 1 powered amp (unless I need two), 2 cabs and 20 pedals (wets and drives) . pun intended.

Dan, I've taken the time now. Thanks to your advice, I was able to set everything up properly. I also use a traditional guitar cabinet with 2 Creambacks and a Koch power amp. You are a rare answer to a common and oft-unanswered question. Thanks bro! This dude is so right. I got two 12” FRFR cabs, and while you do get greater tonal variety with your modeler, I couldn’t jam to it. The cab gives me the good amp-in-room sound and vibe. If I need to hear what the audience hears I use much less expensive studio headset. FRFR is also too loud. It gets boomy when loud enough so you aren’t hearing your guitar.

I run FRFR which I’ve grown to like. Lots of gigs and trial and error. Thinking of adding a guitar cab with a FRFR next to it. I would run the monitor out of the Kemper to a flat power amp into a 2x 12 Celestion cab. Then take one of the main outs to feed the onstage FRFR, an EV 112p, timber cabinet. I saw Larry Carlton live use tis kind of approach where he’d mic up his dumble and 1x12, run that signal to a mixer then add his fx to 2 jbl FRFR cabinets either side of his dumble rig.

Very cool and useful video. I’m looking at Kempers now. I play at home at lower volumes so I’m thinking that the non powered version with studio monitors may be the way to go. I mostly use a Yamaha THR10 now so I’m used to how smaller speakers sound. That said I do have a couple of combo amps that I could also run the kemper through if I felt so inclined. Any studio monitors that you’d recommend? I was looking at some Yamaha HS5 or HS7 inch studio monitors. My main reason for wanting a kemper is to be able to have such an awesome range of amp tones that sound great at lower volume. Cheers

New kemper owner. I have been using a little Yamaha THR10 modeling amp on flat mode which basically turns it into FRFR / studio monitor vibe. I had Yamaha HS5s but I thought the THR10 sounded better. And more recently I tried using the kemper plugged into the “power amp in” section on a boss katana, turn the cab off on the kemper and it sounds really good. The profiles sound very similar but just more amp in the room vibe.

I recently took the opportunity and checked various possibilities….had a Kemper active Kabinet, line6 active cabinet and a rcf active monitor. All sounded acceptable…but then i took my 40 years old Superchamp with a Celestion Vintage 60w speaker…that sounded awesome…looking for a second one to get the stereo-option. In addition to that i took my 40years old Morley amplifier/volume pedal 25/50 and connected it to a closed cabinet with two Celestion Vintage 60w speakers…blowed my mind what 50 oldfashioned transistor reinforcement pedal could achieve in combination with a Kemper stage.

@@azizaziz7007 It’s such a tough call because it’s all personal preference. The 4CM will give you a lot of cool options and let you use the preamp from the amp. Excellent, as others have said you’ve covered all the differing options in a clear and encompassing fashion.. I have 2 general preferences, both using guitar cabinets with the monitor cab off selected in the output section- one using a solid state full range power amp into a 2 X 12 guitar cab and the other into the effects return input of one of my tube guitar combo amps driving the internal speaker and sometimes with an added external speaker.. It’s all up to the individual as you say and trying different combinations is cool as well.. One suggestion you may have already covered in one of your videos: when using this option and also sending a Main output signal with cab sim engaged to FOH during a gig make sure the Main Volume is disconnected from the Monitor Volume via deselecting the Main Out Link- otherwise when you turn up your Master Volume on the Kemper to vary your stage volume to taste you’ll also increase the volume to the sound guy running FOH.. I keep the Main Volume set at around -17 DB per some advice I was given which seems to work well.. Thanks again!

for me personally, i find recordingmy go to is full Kemper, with cab block on, for live and jamming with my band, I modded a 2x12 sealed guitar cab the size of recto 2x12 , with a Celestion V30 and Celestion Creamback 65 then each speaker powered by its own 150watt Mono block Class D plate amp fitted in the back, so I have true stereo cab with tru stereo isolation and I can use the Kemper amp and eq blocks but I turn off the Cab block and the two clestions give me that "in the room" sound I am used to, and I can have the speakers Mic'd up as their guitar speakers making guitar speaker in the room noise and if the engineer wants a quieter signal he can take the cab on output and I can run out the monitor send and split a mono signal to the two poweramps. by far the best options for me as I can be so adaptable for recording , gigging or practising, . if anyone looking for poweramp plate amps with all the inouts and volume control il share a link below, Im not endorsed or sponsored, but I had to do a bit of research to find what I needed so happy to share my goldmine find,

Yeah, I was really confused when I first got it. It really did not sound particularly good to me. My goal was to run it into my already existing cabinets, but it always sounded “rounded off“. I could never get it to be tight and responses, no matter what profile and cabinets choice I used. Generally speaking, I would turn the cabinet emulation off. But since then I have come to understand that the product really is not designed to match your two amplifiers, sitting right next to them as they are with me. They are a product within themselves. I have since gotten a matrix FRFR 2 x 12 speaker cabinet. But then proceeded to have the same problem. This was all up until I figured out that there is a setting on my powered unit that is supposed to emulate their proprietary KONE. Well that setting has to be turned on if using any kind of FRFR set up. My power unit, of course has a power amp inside so I don’t have to use a powered FRFRcab, which of course mine is not. But ever since I turned that setting on, all of a sudden the whole rig sounded like an actual guitar amplifier and cabinet rig.

I always have the main out going into the desk for the band to monitor me or for going through the PA at bigger gigs. Wouldn't I need the monitor/main out to retain the cab sim and the power amp to have it turned off? My other issue is I seem to easily get microphonic feedback with gain sounds. I play a custom shop Strat with fat 50s btw. I love the sounds I get when in the studio from the main out and studio monitors. I am no where near getting the same sound live. You want to be sure to tie your cab out to the monitor level and not the main out level. You can set the main outs to a standard level that won’t change as you change the master. Depending on how you have it hooked up, you can also adjust the input gain on your interface.

I've disactivated cabinet obviously, make some small EQ correction and it works ... but .. I can hear only the effects before the amp.. no any delays, reverbs .. anything . In Stage I have used the monitor output . Are there any additional adjustments shall I set up, ot maybe this connection gives only tis opportunity ? On the main output I've ,,discovered ,, only the ,, wet signals ,, from delays and reverbs. Is there any oportunity to mach them together? Let me know please. .. Ps. Great sound, brilliant playing. I’m not 100% sure about wet / dry / wet hookup. You’d probably have to utilise the main outs for wet and monitor out for dry using the settings. There may be a better way but I’m not sure.

This is an exceptional informative video Dan! Thank you so much. I recently purchased the Headrush FRFR running through my Kemper Profiler Head (non powered). I’m finding it to sound “muddy” with most profiles that are high gain. Any advice on that? Presumably my best option would be adjusting the bass or presence on each profile but that’s a bit of a pain. Or, perhaps the global EQs? Thanks in advance. Great job again!
@DanLeggatt3 жыл бұрын
Sorry Jack, this comment got flagged as spam for some unknown reason. It’s difficult to suggest fixes without hearing it. I would look into applying a bit of a low cut globally. You can do it on the main or monitor EQ. Also check if ‘pure cab’ is on. It can be useful but it can also muddy things up depending on what the setup is.

Great video! I did have a question: I like running my powered kemper into a guitar cab as well as going direct out for live shows; I like using the cab to feel the air and stage volume and I like knowing that FOH is hearing an IR of a 4x12. All this being said, assuming I should leave my cab monitor on since FOH is getting a direct signal?
@DanLeggatt3 жыл бұрын
You want to tick the box that says 'Monitor Cab Off' (or something similar, I'm not with the Kemper atm). This will only bypass the cab block for your cab on stage and the FOH will get the tone with the cab block applied.

Some FX loops need the send jack to have something in it, just any jack. Some amps the FX loop needs to be engaged on the footswitch.

Thanks for your great video, I am new to kemper I got this kemper stage. When I connect my yamaha hs8 directly from monitor or main out it doesn't sound good at all specially in comparison with my sony headphones or hughes and kettner cab. I tried monitors cab off and on and it still does not sounds right. I feed my hs8 directly to monitor or main out and it sounds like a cheap multi effect. Should I connect my kemper stage to my computer using a sound card? In headphones and guitar cabs it sounds fantastic.
@DanLeggatt4 жыл бұрын
It's really hard to advise on things like this without hearing it first hand but I'll try and give you a few pointers that may help. For a start off, the cab block should be on when ever you are running into your monitors. If the sound is particularly harsh you can try engaging 'Pure Cab' to take the edge off. You can also use the master EQ to sculpt the sound to your liking. The Yamaha HS series are reference monitors and therefore are pretty unflattering, which is useful if you are mixing but not so much for playing. The monitors are extremely directional too, so depending on where you are sitting and also the room could have a detrimental effect on the sound. You could use your soundcard to send the signal to monitors but it shouldn't make much of a difference to the tonal character. Be sure that the levels are set correctly and you aren't pushing too much signal into the monitors, causing them to clip.

@@DanLeggatt thanks for your points. I think the main reason is I have played guitar for 20 years in front of the amp and I'm not used to direct monitor sound. I tweaked monitored out EQ and it sounds better. I studied In kemper addendum 8 in the kemper website looks like many people have the issue with the new sound without a guitar cabinet.
@DanLeggatt4 жыл бұрын
It’s just a total change for people used to being stood in front of a guitar cab. I am one of them. I still use a cab live in conjunction with in ear monitors. The air moving makes a big difference for me. I have mine setup in a way now that I’m happy with it through a cab or monitors or any situation I might find myself in. It takes a bit of tweaking but I’m sure you’ll get it dialled in 👍

Super helpful video on something I’ve been lost on for a long time. Are there any power amps you’d recommend for running an unpowered kemper through a guitar cab? Would the magnum be powerful enough for live shows?
@DanLeggatt3 жыл бұрын
I think the magnum does the job, possibly not the best. I’ve gigged with it with another modeller and it kept up fine. Perhaps look at the options offered by Harley Benton? They do a rack power amp used by a lot of people with the Kemper or they do some more compact options too.

Hi dan, great explanation. Going for FRFR, for live use, would you go for 112 or 212? Is there any difference in FRFR as they are in normal cab? Thanks!
@DanLeggatt2 жыл бұрын
Definitely a difference, just more air moving. I would personally go 1x12 to keep size / weight down but up to you how important that is to you.

May have gone over it. But how many watts do you recommend for a cab while using a power kemper with it? I just got a 160 and im worried aboit blowing speakers out. Already heard cracks in the cab yesterday
@DanLeggatt2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t like to give that advice, you can see the wattage output in real time in the output menu. I’ve used it with a 65w speaker at gig volume without a problem. However, this is not recommended and I was careful with levels. What ever you do, it’s at your own risk.
