Ever since I bought a Springfield Champion Operator a couple years ago, I have been a FIRM believer in the flat spring. I just bought a full sized 1911 last week, and preemptively ordered the Wilson flat spring, guide rod, and shokbuffer pack. And let me just say, holy smokes. This new, $600 turkish nonsense 1911 just might be my best shooting pistol. Mostly due to Wilson, I’d bet. Next thing I’m doing is changing the main spring housing and grip safety. All Wilson, all the time!

This is Ken. Ken has forgotten more about 1911 than you will ever know. You listen to Ken

Thanks Ken. Mr. Wilson is top drawer to me. I like his products. Not gimmick 1911 stuff. Real quality improvement stuff. I respect that. The buffer bloc really makes a diff. I have several of his maint tools. Amazing. After your KZbin review of the flat spring I ordered one. God Speed.

Hackathorn is a small arms dictionary. id like to know half of what hes forgot. i was just about to order my flat wire and just now learned that its smaller diameter than standard wire. thanks for vid.

The flat spring is one of the greatest updates to the 1911
@kansasjack82403 жыл бұрын
That's for sure. It keeps the same spring rate throughout the cycle and doesn't "coil bind". Minimal fatigue as well.

I use an 18.5lb chrome silicone spring in both of my 1911's that are by Springfield with 5-inch barrels. The GI rod and plug are what I use because I can break the pistol down with ease with no tools.

I like this Guy. I would take his advice on just about anything. He seems honest and knowledable. I also enjoyed watching him in the Beretta 92 video with the stout dude . Some great answers about the reload, SLIDE STOP or SLIDE RELEASE were addressed. And I got the answer I hoped they would confirm. 10 THUMBS UP !!!!!!!!!

If you guys made an 18# flat wire recoil spring for GI, I'd buy one.

I bought one of these today. They are rated for something like 40,000 rounds.

I replaced my full size Colt government with the flat spring and guide. Is there a Wilson flat wire spring for a 4.25” lightweight commander? Discussion goes from full size to compact, yet Wilson compacts are 4”

How about an 18.5 lbs. braided wire 1911 recoil spring? Such as found on a SIG P226.

Can you use the 45 acp spring for a 40 cal 1911 full size 1911. I'm trying to go from a guide rod to a GI style spring for my 1911 40 cal.

So I have a full size Remington R1 And i bought and installed a Wilson combat bullet proof flat wire spring, If I was to add the rubber buffer. Can I fire 45 auto +P ammo without any problems???

Good info. Did I hear him say he is using recoil buffers on all of his compacts and full size 1911?
@cbrooks27675 жыл бұрын
It seems like he said that. But I can't use them in anything but gov't length guns. In commander length and shorter, they take up too much space during spring compression and the slide won't go far enough to the rear to lock back on an empty chamber.

Went to their web site. This kit is not for Colt or Springfield Armory 4" barrels.

I recently went from a full length gide rod /round spring to the Wilson Combat G.I. flat spring the only thing I didn’t like about it was there was a grinding sound when it cycled which I assume was the spring on the shorter guide rod
@democratpro3 жыл бұрын
Yes. Regular springs do that, too.
@alj.granda82522 жыл бұрын
Yes, I dont get grinding, but I do get a squealing sound when I rack it by hand several times. Mine is a new Wilson 9mm 5" CQB that came with the 13 lb flat wire. I havent even shot it yet, so I expect to subside after a few hundred rounds.

If 16# is the old standard weight for .45 ball ammo I wonder why they don't sell a 16# flat spring?

@thomascarpenter74156 жыл бұрын
Ralph , I took my full length guide rod out of my SA Loaded and am using the flat spring . Shot a four round group at 7 yards today , 3 went in one ragged hole and the other was 1inch high ...

What is the recommended recoil spring force for a Commander???
@never2be074 жыл бұрын
@Kevin Lange Question is can you go lighter without issues? 22 lbs is super heavy for racking the gun or even press checks
@mdd19634 жыл бұрын
2 lbs heavier for the 4.25" real Commander compared to the Govt...; many of the 4" pistols use too-short 22 lb Officer's ACP springs.

I know this is an old video but the flat wire spring kit I put in my well used Les Baer sucks. Under recoil I get slide hammering. I pulled it out and put my original spring back in. 17# is not enough to tame 1911 full size recoil. I threw mine in the trash and put my well used Les Baer back in and the slide cycles fine. Don't waste your money!

Flat spring is an improvement, but you have to change the guide rod and plug, to me its not worth it.

If a spring “stacks” before letting the slide hit its abutment in the frame the wrong length spring is in the gun, which can lead to gun damage...... so honestly the spring stacking justification is not applicable here. Just a point of fact over some degree of misinformation.

@lou653310 жыл бұрын
Listen to the video again. He seems to recommend the buffer and then comments that he is using them (flatsprings, buffers???) in his compact and full size 1911's. Ambiguous, confusing.
@justinbailey17562 жыл бұрын
Sounds like to me the springs were designed to stack to reduce frame battering. The flat wire spring doubles spring life but cost 3x the money and increase wear on your gun prompting you to use a recoil buffer, sounds like a pretty shady deal to me.
