You can debate several of the reasons that said at least “you don’t” both the fact that most better weapons lights have quick release. They can be a light without flagging.

You don't need one, but an extra tool is never a bad thing. If your carry gun can mount one, go for it.

It depends on the situation, if it's for home defense, maybe have a separate light so you're not pointing a loaded firearm at someone who's supposed to be in your home. If you're in public it's pretty clear when anyone is approaching with intent to harm, so, a mounted light is beneficial in that situation.

I don’t like them. why are you pointing your gun at something to identify it? Do you point your weapon at things you don’t intend to shoot? I have one on my home defense pistol, and home defense rifle, but that’s it.
