Things were very tight when I first graduated decades ago. I was broke and stressed. My first job wasn’t good. No money for vacations or dinners out with friends or many new clothes besides a couple of basic pieces. Thank God Tik Tok and Instagram weren’t around to make me feel worse. But I had faith - in God and to a lesser degree, in myself and my survival skills. I made friends who liked to hang out and play board games. I joined a family of faith that encouraged me. I budgeted and saved and invested - humbles amounts at first, but over the years it added up. I knew I was playing a long game, and it worked.

Same! Undoubtable it’s harder now than when I started out. Premise is the same. Live frugal and grind. Never compare. Same here. But the youngins don't want to hear it. The reality is that when i graduated college in 95 my first job paid 28k a year. I had a beater car, some clothes, a cheap guitar and roommates. I never really bitched about it...that was reality for everyone my age for the most part - i didnt know anyone that had their own place. Today someone 24 out of college thinks they can start living large immediately with overseas vacations, new cars, their own place...its more expensive today than 30 years ago and if I tried spending like that I would be in debt and broke just like they are.

My first job out of college paid me $8,000 per year. That is the equivalent of $60,000 today. I had a roommate and we shared expenses. I drove an older used car I had paid cash for. I did not have a student loan because there were none at that time, thank goodness. I didn't hate my job, but it was still work. Work doesn't mean feeling joy every minute. This also wasn't my first job ever. I had worked before and during college at sometimes hard physical jobs. This taught me what it's like to show up and keep working, and to do a good job. Well Ron Paul tried to fix the system but not enough people with even half a brain listened, throughout 35 plus years of him being a Texas congressman. He was trying to strike at the root of all of it by abolishing the IRS but the problem is at least two different times out of the three that he ran as president he was screwed out of the presidency by at least two plus States worth of electoral votes . This is precisely what happens when you have a bunch of idiot lobbyists who have been swapping money back and forth between the same morons who want to control the people that have been in control and power for more than a century now. At the core I believe truly that the stems from idiot Woodrow Wilson December 23rd 1913 off the coast of Jekyll Island when he gave the power to print and control our currency to a group of foreign bankers that he dubbed the IRS and that he don't the actual act on paper as the Federal Reserve Act President John F Kennedy was the last and far as I understand the only president to truly challenge this with with executive order 11110 or 01111, I don't recall which it is at this moment, which would have given power back to the United States Treasury where it belongs to print and control our currency as it should have been. Noticed he was assassinated not even 6 months later and noticed what one of the first two things that Linda B Johnson did when he took office, he reversed that executive order and his dumbass got us involved or deeper involved in Vietnam which put us further into debt as a nation It's funny the few times the very few times that this nation sees a true constitutional sound sane intelligent person come along who finally wants to grab power and do the right things and it's proven that he is a morally sound good human being with no skeletons in the closet that the people including the idiot lobbyists refused to listen to reason Do the same things you've always done especially using the same methods and tools and nothing else changes and expect different results then...you're a du mba ss

Just eight years later, the car payment would be much higher, probably around 600/month for the same type car, that same apartment I looked up rents for $1,500/month now. Gas is higher, food is higher, insurance is higher, it’s all higher. I'm not convinced Zoomers have it worse than I did, I've talked to some, looked at what I made back then and what rent was compared to day and what kids are being paid now and it just doesn't look that much different. @mr.kilpatrick2991

I think Ken hits the nail on the head when he states about unrealistic expectations. There are many difficulties facing young people today (including poor parenting) but at the top is likely it appears many zoomers have totally unrealistic expectations...they were unrealistic 30 years ago and even more so today...which suggests they are lacking common sense and totally out of touch with reality. There seems to be an idea for many young people that there are all these guarantees in life...as though life is a list of guarenteed checkboxes...go to college - check, get degree - check, get high paying job - check, buy house at 25 - check, never experience struggle - check...and so on. It's NEVER been the case. There are millions in previous generations that got degrees and never made money, got degrees and worked in another field, passed on college and worked a trade. Some qualified for mortgages some didn't. There are no guarantees in life. Your best bet is to think through life decisions. Sadly many young people sign for college loans on poor research. As he points out, why the hell is a 25 year old girl, fresh out of college, with entry level pay and probably debt, talking about buying house? WTF. That is ridiculous. It was ridiculous when i came out of college in 95, which mortgage lender is ready to loan someone like that hundreds of thousands of dollars? On top of that, noone wants to get married so they all actually think they are gonna do it on a single income. This is plain delusional thinking. It was delusional 30 years ago as well. Shows a severe lack of common sense. Many then, mad about the difficulties of life they didn't expect, go on to act like they know about generations they didn't live in and proceed to grossly over-exaggerate their perceived simplicity of that period. Plenty of money, no struggles, everyone bought a house since they were cheap. This is just a cope I suppose but still not a viable strategy to move forward.

Things are a little more difficult for 20 something year olds because the economy is so crap; but, at her age, back in the 90’s, I worked two jobs six days a week for years and was going to college full time. The first few cars l drove were pieces of crap that were unreliable but it was all l could afford…I paid my dues which took years to do. Now, in my later years, I drive a paid off car that’s reliable, I live in an apartment by myself which is clean, safe and affordable. I have emergency money saved up which could pay for any car issues or other things. I’m also lucky that my job is close by so I don’t have to spend too much on gas to get me around and the area I live in is walkable with everything I need no more than 20-30 minutes away…I feel very grateful and blessed…That young lady might hate her job but she needs to find a way to appreciate the fact that she’s able to keep a roof over her head and, I never made 60 thousand in my life, yet I’m debt free. She’s seriously going to have to grow up and learn to deal with a little bit of adversity or she’s not going to make it!

That may be true, but in the not so distant past, a median income was able to pay for a house, car, support a stay at home spouse, and at least one child. Now, it takes two people earning above median wages to afford this. The current system is untenable.

I suspect that a big problem is that she is ALONE. A young person will be much happier (and wealthier) if they live with family - whether that's a spouse, or parents or siblings. They have emotional support AND can pool finances. A person at the beginning of his or her career, who then has to pay 100% of rent, utilities, and transportation, as well as spending most of their time alone, is in a very bad situation.

Ive been in the gutter and had hard life lessons, eventually i stopped being stupid with my money and got creative. For example i graduated in 2009 from college...during the thick of the great financial crisis. Thats just one thing, i pivoted and went into where they were hiring, which was law enforcement. The rest is history and have pivoted the last 15 years in my career College is a scam. I had 85k in student loans for a BS degree. Another hard lesson learned, but again paid it all back and didn't ask for a handout. Just accepted i got bamboozled, again just a hard lesson learned in the end that kept me in financial prison since i graduated. These social media sob stories are old.

Just get a college degree and u will have a happy life. This was true in a particular era. At that time very few people had those degreees. Now every Tom, Dick and Harry has some degree. Now a days colleges take your money, they teach you irrelevant things and give u a degree which indicates that you have successfully completed their course. Now whether to give importance to that degree and give u a job is something some authority in a corporate decides. Colleges will walk away by saying that they cannot tailor their courses as per industry needs and companies might use a degree only as one of the filter criteria to shortlist candidates. One thing v have to remember now is there is a expiry date to what is relevant in profession in a capitalist economy

Counter to God's design for marriage and family for young women, our society encourages young women to be fiercely independent and to be college and career oriented, all with the parents' blessing. Many follow this path and find it less than satisfying; they are alone, find themselves exhausted by the corporate grind, and in debt. They look down the road ahead of them, see more of the same to come, and are moved to tears, grief, and frustration. Contrast this outcome with that of a young woman who knows that she would like to be a wife and mother and makes choices that are conducive to that end. She spends her youth wisely, gaining skills and knowledge that will benefit her future household. She watches for a young man who values her and her roles as a someday wife and mother. She does not accrue debt that will be a drain on her future. A young woman like this does not signal to young men that there is no room in her life for prioritizing marriage, family, and home. A young woman like this is a prize, her worth far above rubies.

I agree. They have been taught something that is counter to the natural order and plan. There is NOTHING wrong with being single, but most young men and women would be better off (emotionally, mentally, financially, physically, etc) by being married to the RIGHT someone. People for the most part are not meant to go through this world just searching for happiness without a thought to forever, that is a first class ticket to misery for sure. Search for meaning and value and happiness will come (but most importantly JOY will come.) Of course, before any of that we have to acknowledge the LORD in all we do. This young lady seems miserable and that is sad. I hope things get better for her soon.
