I had a knee replacement 3-4 years ago. To this day it is no better than before the replacement. I've had 3-4 major surgery's in my life and the knee replacement pain was by far the worst I have ever experienced. Im not willing to go thru that again.

I would take a hip replacement any day instead of knee replacement. I had one 5 1/2 years ago. It did NOT give me the problems that my knee has done. My knee still huts n I did the physical therapy!!

Good explanations in this video, I had my left knee done 4 years ago. Just had my right knee done 6 weeks ago. I am in constant pain with both of them, they ache so bad that I find it impossible to stand up or walk for more than 10 minutes, I have to find somewhere to sit. Followed all of my physio exercises, I go to the gym and swim 2 or 3 times a week. 70 years old and I feel I have no quality of life. Worked hard all of my life as a scaffolder, now I can hardly walk. Just for good measure my hips are starting to ache

I am sorry you having such difficulties. I am 3 months post right TKR and having the tightness band. I am hoping will continue to improve as I have thought what if had this done (I'm 71 and retired 6 months ago) and now won't be able to enjoy retirement due to knee problems. I don't know your health history but I have bad osteoarthrosis and fibromyalgia and consider that other health problems may contribute to continued problems with knee replacement. I wish you better days.

Finally possible answers to tightness, squeezing, painful sensation I’ve been experiencing since my TKR in 2017. Surgeon won’t take me seriously when report my symptoms and concerns. (Had total reconstruction of same knee at age 13) He won’t listen to this highly educated RN that something is wrong with this knee. Will be sharing your video with PCP, Thank You, I now have hope it’s not in my head.

I had total knee replacement in sept of 2017 right knee exactly two months later the day before Thanksgiving my left knee was done. I can’t take pain meds just took Tylenol in hospital and home. I had no pain, no problems at all . I was 68 and this summer I worked wine harvest for my son walked 8 to 10 miles a day and climbed up and down stairs all day 6 days a week for 3 months. I’m sure you are a rare case. High pain tolerance. I can’t image having my other knee done now. I’m 9 weeks out of TKR. It’s a full time job just rehabbing one knee and the other one (will need to be replace in the near future) is crucial for mobilization during healing. Can’t even think of how I’d get around if it was also replaced at this point 😱 Everyone is different. I hope I get over the fear of something going wrong soon because it’s really effecting my mental health as well. 😢

I had a total replacement. A year later I had a revision. I couldn't bend it much or totally straighten it. Also had a lot of pain. After the revision I am functional. My knee only bends at almost 90°. I was better off not having it. I had my knee bent under anesthetic doctor said I got it to bend. Yeah right. I will not have another. This video was right to the point no fluff. Thank you.

I’m so happy to have come across this video. I guess that my pain could be from any of these issues, but I have no idea which one. My left was done in 2009, and has never been good. The right was 2012, and hurts, but not like the left one. I still have to take stairs one at a time, because it hurts to bend the left knee. Now, to find a doctor who will address the issues.

I had a total knee replacement in 2006. I had problems right away extreme stiffness that would not go away. In 2007 I had a partial revision with a replacement of the patellar component and removal of excessive scar tissue. This only worsened, and to this day, I am able to bend the knee only enough so that I don’t limp. I am unable to send normally in a theater or airplane due to not being able to bend the knee enough. Arthrofibrosis has been a nightmare for me. I would never consider doing another knee replacement.

Love this video and how I wish, one of those problems was mine. I've had 38 knee surgeries on my left knee and the result is that I can no longer bend it. A year ago I had my 5th surgery on my right knee and I'm in so much pain when I have to bend it, like sitting and standing. I'm 66, and my mobility is very poor. If they can't find what's wrong with this knee I feel as if I'm going to be permanently in a wheelchair soon. I wish everyone a speedy recovery and pain free life.

I have already had two right knee surgery's. Still have pain issues after 20 years. Was considering knee replacement, but being 64, I figured it would take at least a full year to get back to 100%. I don't want to not be able to ride my dirt bikes and play golf for a year, so I live within my limitations. I wear a knee support brace while riding my dirt bikes and it helps. That is just until I jam it or twist it the wrong way. I try and play within my limitations. No sitting around rehabbing for me.

I have had my right knee replaced twice now. The first surgeon did performed the replacement. Five years later it still hurt , was stiff, sore and swollen all the time. I kept going back to the surgeon. He said nothing was wrong inside the knee capsule. Finally I went to a new surgeon. He immediately ordered a bone scan. Found out the pieces of metal in the knee were loose. In fact so loose when he opened the knee they fell out. He said the bone under the metal pieces were like mashed potatoes. He placed rods in the tibia and femur (knee revision surgery). Replaced all the parts and I have been pain free ever since. In fact it didn’t even hurt as much as the first initial replacement. He is the best surgeon. Since then this place I have gone to. Has placed two metal braces on C4 and C6 in my neck. And again a good job and successful. Then I had another surgeon from the same place took a bone out of my thumb joint that was basically destroyed somehow. They take a ligament from the same arm and roll it up like a cinnamon roll and sew it into the place of the removed bone. They call it an anchovy. Another great surgeon. Olympia Orthopedic has nothing but talented surgeons. I think they actually understand the pain levels patients go through in these complicated situations and are dead set to correct it for the patient. I will never go to any other surgeons except these talented surgeons. They are the best and their support staff is excellent also.

An ortho guy gets to place metal rods in the neck ? That is a different specialty as they guys that handle the spine are usually neuro. Do you live in a remote countryside where surgeons do it all ? I put a pacemaker with a surgeon , originally, from somewhere is South America, who told me the next day, he was going to perform hip surgery. I was very surprised. That was in rural TX decades ago when I was a pacemaker rep. I still remember. You never see this anywhere anymore. Each specialty approves their surgeons for special cases. No hospital now, would approve a guy that does it all. He may have done a good job but it is not what we expect.

I had a knee replacement and 18 months later had a revision. The first time it was done incorrectly. Another words, they did the knee replacement a second time. I was in constant pain. All I have to say is the aftercare after the surgery is just as important as the procedure. Good physical therapy is a must! It has been 9 years since my revision and it feels great. The Dr. had to perform the surgeries the old way by fitting the knee by hand. I have never had any issues with either knee. PT pushed me hard and gave me exercises to do at home. When PT was completed, I was able to flex both knees to 135 degrees and straighten them to 0*. I am active and walk 5 to 7 miles a day.

Had both my knees replaced same time 20 months ago. Also had bow legs r 13 % ,L 9 %. The surgeon said he had to do a lot of work. R leg was pretty good after 9 weeks left not that good. Tryed to get back into golf after 7 months but got swelling and had to give it away for another 4 months. Came good but flexion is around 120 right knee and left is around 100. I joined the gym after a year and this has helped a lot just by being stronger. I had to take pills for 6 weeks then just when I went to physical therapy. I am happy I had them replaced the 1st 6 weeks are the hardest, just going to the toilet is a challenge, had a raised seat very good. I live in Australia

I am seeing my original surgeon in a few days....and they have been telling me....everything is as it should be....I am at my wits end!

I’m right there with ya. My surgeon won’t even discuss possible soft tissue damage (scar tissue). Just focused on the bone. Bone’s fine, as is the implant. The tendons around the knee are stiff and the area around the fibula has a hard lump. But it’s hard to find a surgeon that will address scar tissue.

@@paulamartin6724 Get another surgeon. It took me 4 yrs to find another surgeon to address my constant pain. Still after going to 8 different surgeons only one would listen. Never could figure out why it always hurt but he pulled the whole thing out and started over 8 weeks ago. He said it’s not suppose to hurt worse after a replacement yet I ended up on crutches the last 4 yrs. These guys all stick together and don’t address all the “f” ups they cause and lives they ruin. What is the deal with so many surgeons not knowing what they are doing? How can they put in the wrong size components. Or screw up the cement. Cause infections, malalignments etc.? Remember everyone, half these guys finish at the bottom of their class.

I had a partial knee replacement on my left knee 11 years ago generally still very good some catching starting every now and again .Had a full replacement on my right knee knee 5 years ago . This has always been my bad knee had full cartilage out when I was 19, 52 years ago . I have had a at least three wash outs , also I had a very successful realignment when I was 43 it allowed me to play county squash and racketball until I was 60 . I played pro and semi pro football until I was 38. When I was 61 to my surprise I had a partial replacement on left leg . The full replacement has been a success in the fact that I have no pain and can walk all day long . However I only have 90 degrees bend I cannot ride a bike , and have to be careful going down stairs , I have had surgery to cut the scar tissue . It did not work . I also had an operation to improve bend again did not work . I think the realignment is the reason .I am frustrated that my bend is restricted but I am able to play golf and walk with no pain or problems . As I have been very fit all my life it restricts me working out eg cannot ride a bike not able to jog . If the replacements deteriorate will I be able to have new replacements ?

I had a knee replacement in 2009. It was wonderful. I had no trouble, no pain, everything was great! Until I tripped over an area rug and tore the meniscus in 2019!! It hurts more now that before the surgery!! My other knee is in line for a replacement but it's going to have to wait. Also my second shoulder surgery will follow the second knee. I'm sure both hips will be somewhere down the road. It's the case of the disappearing cartilage.

Mine was kind of covered in malalignment. My second replacement was very painful from day one. Felt like I walked into a trailer hitch with my shin, all the time. The end of the tibia stem was angled towards the front of the tibia. It was very close to the edge of the bone. Less than 1/8” from the front edge. Found another doctor after looking at the xrays.

I’m 9 weeks out of TKR. It’s a full time job just rehabbing one knee and the other one (will need to be replaced in the near future) is crucial for mobilization during healing. Can’t even think of how I’d get around if that one was also replaced, like some have said they’ve done 😱 I hope I get over the fear of something going wrong soon because it’s really effecting my mental health as well. 😢

I'm about four months post right TKR and have watched my good share of post-op videos, and I've never come across this information - this is spectacular!! I'm having a pinching/stabbing sensation on the lateral side of my knee when I lay on my left side and lift (abduct) my right leg. Massaging it relieves the pain. I'm thinking something's up with my LCL, yes? ...maybe? Again, thank you! Greetings from the southern California desert! 😊🌵

I had a total knee replacement February 2021. I told my doctor that I wanted to walk while playing golf so he gave me a replacement with a "hinge" in it. He said that's what I needed. Two years later, it hurts more than it did before surgery. (Only in the Hinge area) He tells me that I just need to build up my quads and stretch my hamstrings. I keep telling him that it "only" hurts in my "knee cap" not in the joint. I want it replaced so I can walk pain free again. Going for xrays this week to see if I could/should replace it again.

I had a knee replacement that I would never recommend anyone to have one, it'd been 4 years and still have pain and feel worse than before best thing I tell my surgeon DR Kubiak about it and he tells me I'm always complaining about pain. He has NO idea of what can cause that or where it coming from he has Done nothing to rule out any of these 8 possibilities, and probably there are others. Thank you for this and for making me feel like I'm not the only one. Thank you God bless

I was fortunate to have both knees done with total replacement in the same afternoon 11 years ago. That meant 1 recovery which was stage 8 pain for 4 days. After that it rapidly lowered with no problems at all. I , the surgeon and the knees were very happy with the recovery and back to work as a truck driver after 7 weeks. I joked, no brain, no pain! But really everything went perfectly.

I am blessed and lucky. I had a fabulous doctor, outstanding wife, great therapist who helped with my recovery. As a result my left leg with the knee replacement functions nearly like the right normal joint does. I have easy 145 degree range of motion (i cam squat with ease) so far so good like I said I’m blessed, very blessed but was it ever a long journey to get to this point. Surgery was last January 10th and I’m able to hunt and walk miles through the woods without pain or discomfort. While I believe a lot of the quality of the doctor and their diligence to doing it correctly. For example my surgery took 2 hours, the other doctor available does them in an hour and most of his patients return for repeats. My doctor is a Christian prayed over me before surgery for good results and God gave them to me. I also believe that the care the patient gets and how much the patient push themselves is crucial as well to a great outcome.

Question: Do you cut muscle and or tendons when you do a total knee replacement? After doing research, I believe cutting those two parts during the operation can lead to greater pain and a much longer recovery. There is a knee doctor on the East Coast that cuts neither muscle or tendons, and it appears as though his patients recovery period is much shorter and much less painful.

Had replacement 3 years ago. No problem. However, I know some folks who were not faithful in their P.T. Cannot emphasize the importance of P.T. at first it really hurts, but once you get beyond that, it feels great. Using Vitamin E cream on the scar greatly reduces the appearance of the scar.
