Labuan is a Duty Free heaven for alcohol and cigarettes, chocolate...and Labuan is a port for vessels, off shore and rescue boat...and ship repair/daily supplement. Sat and Sun usually fulky booked, it is very difficult to find a vacant room. Many sailor and engineers gone aboard for Pub, Club, and looking for beddies 🤭

Greeting Ken. I watch your contents and I am from Labuan. Sabah and Labuan was experiencing bad weather the past week. Too bad you were not able to see the beautiful sunrise and sunset on this island. And there are few famous spots and remains in this island that show the end of the WW2. The War Memorial, the surrender point, the coal mine entrance, the ammunition storage etc... As well as the nearby island getaway for snorkeling and diving. Good luck and looking forward to your next video.

The only people going to Labuan are the local Labuanese themselves (they are more likely to take the ferry from Sabah instead of flying) international traders (it's an international port), party goers (duty free island, so...) and students (usually matriculation/A-level students). I used to study there for a year. They had water problems so bad I had to shower around a water tap/faucet near the principal's house and in the middle of the college field back then. Not mentioning the legendary bus number 6 😂😂😂

Labuan is a small free duty island belong to Federal Government.Labuan is attractive for locals to buy cheaper item especlally alcohol kind of product becos it is very cheap as compare to other parts of Malaysia. For tourism I think is not that attractive due to lack of thing to do on the island. But no harm to visit once in a life though.Last but not least Blessed Birthday to you.May God.bless and keep you safe no matter where you are.Cheers.

Those planes are ATR-72s, they're actually quite common in Europe. They're made in France and Italy. if you're looking for places to visit.. I can't think of many - there's The Chimney (a museum), and there's beaches all over the place. Also a wartime cemetery. If you like spectacular rocks you could try Bethune Head in the north of the island, and they're some interesting stuff in the south, too, but maybe you'd have to be a geologist to appreciate the stuff in the south (turbidites). As far as the geology goes - it's a world class destination for sedimentary rocks. Fossils, sedimentary structures, etc., a great place for teaching.

Heyy, Im a local from labuan. Yes it's indeed a small island. So what did most of the local do are actually goin to beaches, which is usually active on the weekends, saturday and sunday. You can also choose to do sports, such as hiking trails, picnics and bike ridings ( this you could find it in seasport😂. it's a so-so facility i would say). And most of y'all know that it's a taxes free spot, so yes people would buy chocolates, cigg and even alcohol beverages from here. I would also like to add, the alcohol drinks here are cheaper as compared to other places. So, you might wanna try out the night live in labuan. Have some drinks and just enjoy.😆 Yes, it's a small island, not much to do here with only 1 mall ( the Financial park) and etc. Anyway I'm still a proud labuanian, love it. It's a small island to distress from the busy cities, my home🥰 🥂

I wonder if you can still get the duty free cigarettes in the shops... I've been in Labuan several times for work (field trips with students - the geology of the island in incredible, especially on the northern and southern coasts - I have lots and lots of photos from back then). Labuan was (probably still is) "duty free" (like Langkawi) so chocolates, cigarettes etc. are much cheaper. Most of the cigarettes were brand you never heard of in your life (my favorite was "Memory" brand) and were ultra cheap (though not as cheap as at the Tatau night market) - maybe RM10-20 a carton of 12 boxes. Since I don't smoke you probably wonder what I bought them for - I guess it was more of a joke than anything - I had an Australian friend who smoked like a chimney, he'd buy Mild Seven cigarettes in KL and they were getting more and more expensive every year. So I'd bring him cartons of these off-brand cigarettes from Labuan every year (and we all sat around and made sure he actually smoked them). And I asked him one day, when someone gives you Memory brand cigarettes, what were you supposed to say? "Thanks for the Memories". He gave me a really dirty look but couldn't help grinning... 🤣🤣🤣

Labuan is not to be compared to Langkawi despite both are so-called tax haven. I've been there, and a quick 2-3 hrs round the island on a mbike is more than enough. Langkawi is well-curated for travellers. Best to focus on Sabah and then Brunei before head to Indonesia.

i love labuan. peaceful island and the beaches used to be much cleaner. that was before covid-19. multi racial paradise. good tourist attractions like the chimney and the japanese peace park. nice seafood. it is not part of sarawak or sabah and it used to be a separate british colony. but after world war 2 it was put into sabah by king george 6 of the UK. in 1984 it joined the federal territories together with kuala lumpur and putrajaya.

Labuan is a small island (92 km²) but bigger than Putrajaya (49 km²). It was made into an offshore financial hub in the 1990. The best thing to do there, in my opinion, is to walk along the Tanjung Kubong trail from the chimney museum and enjoy the geological formations along the sea up to the tip of Tanjung Kubong. Another fun thing is to take a speedboat/ferry to various destinations such as Menumbok, Brunei, Kota Kinabalu, Lawas, Sipitang, and Limbang. Beaches are not at their best because of offshore oil and gas activities. Many people visit Labuan in search of cheap alcohol.

That was not a short flight Ken, not even close to being short. The shortest Commercial Flight is between two Islands off the coast of Scotland. The Islands are part of the Orkneys Group and are called Westray and Papa Westray. The flight from take-off to touchdown is 80 SECONDS. The distance is 1.7 miles (2.8 kms). Note- It is a Regular Commercial Flight. 30 Minutes is not short, London Heathrow to Manchester is only 35 minutes and is approx 200 miles. I didn't see anything that would create a desire to visit that Island and I can understand you not being inclined to return, I think it's probably mostly Local People only.

Labuan is definitely not a holiday or tourist destination. It’s an offshore financial centre offering international financial & business services. It’s where the ultra rich people of Asia park their money coz it’s a tax free haven and also a duty free island. East Malaysians will usually go there just to buy cheap booze, chocolates & ciggies 😂 Most of the Labuan locals and expats living there are working in the oil & gas and financial sectors.

I've been here before. I did many things for 3 days. Go to chimney museum, hiking beside the chimney museum, ride local bus, go to the peace Garden which also near to the beach and there is also cafe. For duty free stuff I went to ujana kewangan. I also went to marine museum which is situated at the beach where also u can find cafe there. I also went to botanical garden, ww2 memorial.

Hi Ken 👋 very short trip indeed and moreover it’s just a small island and not much of entertainment or development, correct me if I’m wrong perhaps KK and Kuching is much more adventurous for tourists or some locals like me who have not yet visited Sabah & Sarawak. Thanks for sharing Ken 👍🏻🥰

Looks like you missed many of the sites to see and good seafood outlets. For a day trip and on a working day, Labuan tourism activities will be pretty quiet as the population is mainly in the O & G and financial sector. Most Labuan people enjoy their weekend at the beach with outdoor activities and fresh seafood. Anywhere, thanks for visiting Labuan island. As shared by others, a walk-in without knowing where, what and when would normally disappoint most.

I think the plane you were flying in to Labuan is like Fokker 50 I used to fly in back in the 90s. Brings back plenty of memories when I used to fly them back in the days. 😁 10:24 Yes, you rode motorrad in Vietnam too if I remember correctly. 😆 11:23 I call it "watering the plants". 😂 11:47 Yup. You are right. 😆 On the positive side... now you have set foot on every FTs in Malaysia. You could always go to the war memorial... if you like... 14:18 Labuan used to be part of Sabah until it was given up as an FT. But that's another story for another day... 20:08 No worries, Ken. 😆 I doubt you're the first to say that. 😂 My last visit was in the late 90s. You want a nice adventure? Use the boat and go to Kuala Penyu and then head to Beaufort for a train ride to KK. 😁

Well, never been to that place before so thanks for showing us around. Yup, been quite a while since you ride a bike. Well, it happens sometimes when you go exploring in a new place. Some place are much quiet and laid-back. Anyway, look forward to the next vlog, stay safe and take care out there.

Flying to Limbang and Lawas would use the Twin Otter. I think the same if flying to Ba' Kelalan and Bario too. Probably the same plane use to fly to Mulu as well. I've flown in it many times in the mid to late 90s and once a while there were chicks for a commercial chicken farm in Lawas in the cargo. Someone once brought along a rooster too. 😂 And if someone farted... 🤣🤣🤣

Hi Ken, I suggest you to visit Sabah. It's only 20-30 mins flight from Labuan. Sabah has a lot of interesting place for you to visit. If you're still in Labuan you can try to visit Bird park, Chimneys (next to bird park) and Marine Museum. For fresh and delicious seafood you can try Anjung Ketam. Other than that, nothing much in Labuan.

Hey, know this Labuan Island is not promoted or touted as Msias 'it' adventure-seeker tourist destination. It's not for globe-trotting guys like you Ken. As pointed by others here, Labuan for many yrs is promoted and globally known too as Msia off-shore financial investment centre. Unless you're wearing perhaps Gucci-Hermes, YSL tie, white-collar local or international bankers, investment execs totting branded-brief cases stashed with millions$$$, appointments set with off-shore banks, global investment players who fly-in on private exec jets you're def in the wrong place! Been in/out Labuan of O&G biz mtgs. Should've done better hmwk Ken. Anyhow, gd you've had so-so grt experience there. So bemused of u complaining momentary discomfort of small airplane and loud noises. Doesnt cone across adventurous at heart. Probly African continent may not be ur cupoftea? For sure, Labuan wouldn't miss u if no return visit unless u carry bagful of millions🤣.

I must admit that it is quite boring to be here for to long when you have nothing to explore....I was born here in 1997 me and my family living here til i was in the age of 5 my dad had new job somewhere in Sabah but few years later in 2010 we move here again I've study and work here until 2018 go back to sabah again, again in 2021 i got a job offer back in this island ....What most of us like about labuan is this is such a small Island so you wont get tired of driving or riding here also for me this Island is special because saving money in this island is much easier than any other places in Malaysia....
