Great list Ken I have visited Malaysia 5 times and seen KL, Kuala Terengganu, Johor Bahru, Perhentian Islands, Redang Island, Tioman Island, Langkawi, Kapas Island, Penang and Putrajaya. My next visit to Malaysia will be the Borneo part (Sabah and Sarawak). And KL is officially my favourite city that I have visited and I've seen so many cities around the world with Bangkok in Thailand being second and Singapore 3rd

Yes, do come and experience Sarawak where you can see the unique cultural difference from rest of the states in Malaysia. If you like nature, you can find a local tour guide to visit the remote part of Miri, like Niah cave (accessible by car), Mulu Caves (accessibly by small flight), Bario highland. Miri itself is a small city where the Dutch first found oil in Sarawak in the early 19's. Tourist attraction is not as many as big cities like KL, but it is a more peaceful, slow pace, clean and beautiful place. By the seaside, the city development is more towards family life styles where you can find some recreation parks built for the locals for family activities and exercise. If you manage to get a local tour guide, ask if they could arrange a trip to visit Iban (native) long house. This tribe used to be head hunter, but they don't do this anymore, so don't worry :P sarawak.attractionsinmalaysia.com/Attraction.php

I haven't had the chance to visit perlis but i do think its one of the most beautiful state but i love terengganu even sarawak ( though i only visit kuching once more than 20yrs ago). Having stayed in seremban, negeri sembilan during half of my primary school years, i still don't really know enough of the interesting attractions in that state except for port dickson, Sri Menanti area in which the ulu bendul is situated, and now the up and coming area for jungle retreats of Jelebu, Mantin and Lenggeng. Malacca is also one of my favorite place as my mother is from that state and Muar though in the state of Johor, but as it neighbors my mum's hometown (Merlimau, Melaka) is also one of my favorite to have breakfast of satays, mee bandung and soto (and its my father favorite fishing spot). As for Perak ( My father's hometown is in Teluk Intan) it is also beautiful especially the Belum Rainforest - Lenggeng Area, Taiping, Kuala Kangsar and pangkor other than the ipoh and its surrounding. You may wonder what state i am affliated with after reading about my parents homestates, well its KL, i was born at a maternity clinic in the middle of KL specifically within the pertama comlpex vicinity, stayed almost all my life in and around kl except a few years in Seremban and 7 months in Ipoh when i was in primary school. Not to say i am expert on Kuala Lumpur n its suburbs as i haven't visited many of them, i just know about them or someone i know have been to those places ( i have not even set foot in sunway lagoon in the 20 odd years it has existed, not even to Berjaya Time Square)

Bit surprising you picked KL as your favorite. Now I do enjoy it and have had opportunity to visit on 2 work trips since May this year but I am not a big fan of large cities, shopping centres etc. I would probably pick something more coastal (and more air breeze) and more variety in scenery. Penang would be high on the list but I could certainly consider Johor, although a fairly large city but for it's variety with nice beaches and beautiful islands within easy reach and easy hop to Singapore and parts of Indonesia.

I think it’s just personal preference. For me, I like Kuantan most. It’s coastal, not too crowded, and have a proper sized city, not too big, just enough for all your needs.

I personally love Langkawi after Penang, KL and JB for myself. I compare Langkawi to the likes of Phuket, Krabi and Bali for a touristy beach destination. But Langkawi is still my preferred destination over Phuket or Bali for the reason that they are more laid back, the people are more honest in terms of giving the right price for any service and more importantly they have much lesser hecklers around the street. Moreover, the island is much smaller making travelling time to one place to another is much shorter plus the traffic is considerably light.

I agree totally. Langkawi is so much better than Phuket (Thailand) and Bali (Indonesia) but I will say Krabi (Thailand)and Lombok (Indonesia) may shade it for me but Langkawi is stunning
