Three minutes in, and I just want to comment about Higher Hope: my student Rylee Gembola has been missing in Omaha, Nebraska, since May of 2024. She’s been sighted so many times, but law enforcement hasn’t cared. Because of your grant, her family was able to put out a billboard campaign all over the city. Thank you thank you thank you. 💛

2 years for weed and 3 years for assault and attempted kidnapping is WILD
@dancing_fig

Yeah - I imagine that the 3 years was partly because it was a parole violation to have pot while he was still on parole for that crime? So he was in some ways finishing out that sentence? But I agree - the blasé way we treat assault vs the ferocious seriousness we bring to drug possession in the US is preposterous.

I hate that our justice system uses the “3 strikes and you’re out” mindset for drug/weapon related charges but a man attacks a woman and is convicted, potentially attacked a second woman, and they’re like “he’s fine” no if we had kept him locked up the first time, Sierah wouldn’t be dead. This is a failure of the US judicial system that continues to happen.

The main issue is that men built these system, and still control them to this day. When women try to make positive changes for ourselves, we're shut down. Until we find ourselves making up the majority of powerful positions within the justice system, we don't stand a chance. Even at that - internalised misogyny is no joke. That sh*t chases you for the rest of your life!

I'm a woman. When I was a teen during the early 1970's, I rode my bike everywhere in the San Francisco Bay area. There were many guys who wanted to pick me up along the way. I am your same age, you have NO IDEA how lucky and blessed you were to have not been abducted or worse. I grew up in a smaller rural area at that same time. I was abducted twice at a music clinic away from home when I was an innocent fourteen year old girl. I didn't know what to say or how to tell my parents. I was saved from actual SA, yet, I experienced other incidents of being grabbed. I was the girl at school that was a leader and example and who always tried to help others. Still, I was silenced and unable to tell anyone about the things that happened to me for decades.

Maggie - I am your age and we know things were different back then. Hitchhiking was considered normal and we never thought it was unsafe. I took rides from strangers on various occasions and never thought my life was at risk. Now days it is drilled into women to take precautions. And of course hitchhiking is definitely something that is shunned.

I am so sorry. I am originally from an area like that and that same age. People like to think of those times as " the age of innocence." I am here to tell you that sweet girls were being grabbed and abducted all over the place. I am one of those girls that survived. I was unable to speak of the things that happened to me for decades. The one time that I spoke of a boy grabbing me and trying to rape me outside of a game as I walked into the school building, it was to this persons older sister that was my same age. I was afraid that she would hit me if I told her that her younger brother had attacked me tried to rape me. SHe started crying and said, " He is grabbing at us, his sisters, we don't know what to say or to do about it ourselves." My heart just broke for her, I felt like she had it so much worse than I had had, so I never told anyone, trying to protect her in my young girl way, not knowing to whom I could speak.

Kid Print ID is FANTASTIC just like something I did when my boys were small. I was such a paranoid, anxious mum (that feeling you get when your child wanders off in a store and your entire world just stops until you find them in the next aisle) I had a little folder where I had photos, their finger prints, a list and photos of distinguishing features and even photos of their pyjamas and shoes. I had it just in case I ever needed to hand it over to police and save valuable time. It actually gave me peace of mind knowing I had it.

This one also hit me really hard. I broke down sobbing. They are all sad. But she was so loved and cared for… even to the point of having her boyfriend following her part way home…. and then to be treated like that. I think … i couldn’t help but think about it happening to one of my own loved ones or my daughter and how it would feel for her and us. For some reason I felt I was going on the journey with thr family and it was all so shocking. I was very impressed with the fast response time and all the impact the family has had after. If they had waited longer, he may have had time to had more evidence and hurt more people.

I have watched almost every single one of Kendall’s videos over the past three years. While I believe each case has been heartbreaking, I find this one of the most chilling she has covered to date, despite its straightforward nature. This case is particularly terrifying because the murder was committed by a random nobody, rather than a family member, former friend, or co-worker. It serves as a reminder that such tragedies can happen to anyone. My heart sank when the video revealed that Josh felt uneasy about letting Sierra bike alone that evening, and unfortunately, he was right. This leads me to reject the notion that "it's rural, so it's safe" or "this neighbourhood/town is safe." The hard truth is that danger can lurk anywhere. Rural areas, are often quiet and seemingly empty, which can create perfect opportunities for predators.

The way she died is so haunting, I am a true crime follower since ever, and some cases, like this one, give me a sadness and anger that I can't even express. The card is really nice, In Portugal we have a bracelet provided by the Government that have a serial number, and if the kid goes to a police officer they scan it and all the info is there. you just need to fill up a form and then pick it up, is completely free. Is a cute blue bracelet. Is called "I am here". We have it for almost 15 years now and was a game changer.

This happened right down the street from where I live. I even helped with my two aunts search for her. The whole town came out. My children go to the same school and her name still lives on around here. The whole community will tell you she was an amazing person. This is still so hard to listen to. Rip beautiful 🩷

I’ve requested this case a few times so happy you’ve covered it! My mom delivered both of their mail at the time & got questioned multiple times on his daily activity & packages he’d receive. I remember driving past his house as they were investigating & it was such a creepy feeling being out there knowing what she went through 💔Thank you Kendall for bringing more awareness to her case 💕

I just wanna take a second to say how proud I am of YOU. I’ve been watching your videos from the very beginning, and to see how far you have come as a person, and how much you do for so many people.. it’s just incredible. The Higher Hope Programme is seriously just an amazing cause and I just can’t believe how far you have come and how much good you are able to do with the platform you now have. Of course with shoutouts to everybody else involved in all of your other shows and your crews etc. but thinking back where all of this started and looking at what this whole brand has become is just amazing. Well done Kendall x

This case hits close to home. I remember the period between Sierah going missing and the moment she was found. I didn't know her personally, but she went to my college and a few of my coworkers were friends with her. We all found out at work. I also got the opportunity to ride around with the officer who found her. He said he will never be the same. So heartbreaking and infuriating knowing he has done something similar before. Not to mention the other missing women from Delta, Ohio, over the years .. this wasn't his first time killing in my opinion.
