@ReversingDiabetes3 жыл бұрын
@@claudialachelle4852 I'm a bit confused when you say you're newly diagnosed but also ask about insulin; generally, type 2 diabetics aren't on insulin until some years after diagnosis. In fact, we generally make *too* much insulin, and only "need" insulin once our insulin resistance gets really bad. A type 1 diabetic doesn't make enough insulin and most will need insulin right away. Sometimes, if they got strictly low-carb while they still make some, they can extend their "honeymoon period" and not need insulin for a while, but generally, a Type 1's beta cells, the ones that make insulin, are dead or dying, so they will always need insulin. Though both diseases are called diabetes, it's confusing as one is caused by too much insulin and the other by not enough - they both results in high blood glucose, which is why they are named similarly. Keto and fasting reverses Type 2 diabetes, but not Type 1. Type 1 can be improved, requiring less insulin to get better control, but to my knowledge, there is no cure for T1 yet. For a T2, some meds have to be carefully moniored as the need for them decreases. Insulin is definitly one, as are the class of drugs known as sulfonylurea drugs, and a few other meds like Trulicity. Basically, Google for the name of the medication and "side effects" and see if hypoglyemia is a possible side effect. If it is, you may need assistance from a health care professional to wean meds as you proceed. Generally, newly diagnosed T2s are on metformin, and as long as you're not one of the rare folks who has GI issues with it, it's fine to continue both while eating keto and I believe it's particularly helpful during fasting. There can be potential issues with B-12 that arise though... and I cover that in my free ebook, which is specifically for T2s who want to reverse diabetes with keto and/or fasting; check my channel to find the link if you're interested (I don't want to spam Dr. Berry's channel, but did want to answer your question... but stop short of retyping the whole ebook here!). I was a T2 for 30+ years, and had been on multiple daily injections for over 12 of those years, was up to 100 units when I began with very poor control, bG usually over 200 with spikes above 300. I was off insulin in under a month and it's been over a year since my endo "fired" me for not being diabetic anymore. I wear a Libre and keep an eye on my readings, but have had normal A1cs for over a year now on NO diabetic medications. My diabetes is in remission; yours can be too!

Covid had all the gyms closed so all I did was go for walks. Not even every day. Sometimes just a couple times a week. It worked. Try it. Don't weigh yourself obsessively every day. Just do it once a week. I picked Sunday as my weigh in day. Listen to what Dr. Berry says here in this video. If you follow what he says, there will be a new you staring back at you in the mirror a year from now. People I haven't seen in a while have trouble recognizing me. It's wild. Started doing Keto and realized I'm not the biggest fan of veggies so I gravitated toward carnivore. I will still eat a salad every now and then if one comes with a meal. Most restaurants won't let me order steak with a side of steak. LOL! My typical meal is usually measured in pounds of meat. I'll eat a pound of sausage, two 8oz steaks, three pork chops, etc. And that's it. No "sides". Just meat. I do a minimum 16 hour fast every day and some days I do a 20 hour fast as I end up having some place to be after work which puts me past my eating window. Surprisingly, I don't get hungry. I do exercise 5 days a week, 30 minutes each day. Either walking on the treadmill or the elliptical. I don't go super hard. Just get my heart pumping enough to get some cardio benefits. Since starting my high fat, low carb adventure my A1C has fallen to normal. My glucose levels are always normal. When my refills of metformin ran out, my doctor did not approve any additional refills. The only thing my doctor is concerned about is my triglycerides...they were still high back a few months ago. But they dropped from 900 to 300...so that's a positive. I have an upcoming appointment in about a month and I hope to see normal numbers across the board.

@@ChadHargis We hope so too! When eating all this meat, Chad, what did your cholesterol numbers do? I'm wanting to do some form of Keto, but a little (okay, a lot) concerned about the cholesterol, because I'm already taking Zetia and Rosuvastatin together. (for high cholesterol:. 400.) I have family heart disease history, which started out as high cholesterol and ended with the death of my dad, after 3 massive heart attacks and 2 for my mom, AFTER stints were put it and 19 meds a day, for heart and diabetes. So I'm sure you can understand why I'm wondering what your cholesterol does on Keto. Thank you in advance!
@ChadHargis3 жыл бұрын
@@lindaenderson7998 I won't lie..Cholesterol is high. But from what I have read there is a lot less correlation to cholesterol and heart disease than most think. My dad also died of a heart attack. But he smoked, drank, ate a horrible diet, and ran his own business which was highly stressful. He did not take care of himself. My family history is one of the reasons I get the chest scans done. I do them about every two years. So far, there are no signs of any build up. I was on lipid meds for awhile, and I had problems with muscle soreness (so did my mom) and the doctor took me off of them. I guess the way I look at it is that we all have to die of something. Right now I'm pushing 50 (49 in 4 days) and I look and feel great. I am 6'5" and weighted in at 216lbs this morning. That's less than I weighted in college. I have reversed my type 2 diabetes and come off those meds. I have begun reversing my fatty liver disease. I have lowered my blood pressure and hope to come off that medication soon. So all in all, the carnivore diet has made me considerably more healthy. Yeah, I still get the "you're going to have a heart attack if you keep eating that way", but so far, it's still ticking and I'm still eating eggs, sausage, bacon, steak, pork, chicken wings, etc. Very few carbs. I'd say 25-30 carbs a day on average and I do a minimum 16hr fast each day. I had something going on during dinner last night, so I didn't eat dinner. As I sit right now, I have not had any food in 18 hours and won't eat again for another 3 hours...making it a 21hr fast....and I'm not hungry. It's so strange, because before doing the carnivore diet, I had to eat every 3 to 4 hours or I'd get what I called the "weak shakes". I'd literally get the shakes and be lethargic until I ate. That's gone too!

I've been intermittent fasting 2 days off , 3rd day I can eat. My numbers are lower and my diabetic ulcer is beginning to heal. Something I haven't seen in 4 years. When I eat on the 3rd day I eat chicken or ground beef with 2x the vegetables. This diet I've recently designed has earned me praise from my endocrinologist while an internal medicine doctor got mad at me when I explained that I began this diet. Scolding me like I was a child. She told me I can't fast because I must eat to take my diabetes meds or ill get sick. I thanked her and now I have stopped taking pills and insulin. Yet my numbers are great and again my ulcer under my foot is healing.

Turn your thinking around. Instead of trying to cut carbs--I tried it but it didn't work for me. I bought a variety of meat and each day I ate as much as I wanted. I liked meat with spices. And as long as I could eat as much as I wanted I never felt hungry and on meat I was 0 carbs. Problem solved! Eventually I will probably gradually add other low carb items and recipes.

Was looking up info about Keto and diabetes on the internet earlier today and did not know whether to laugh, cry or cry with laughter. A few ”doctors” (all with vested interests in pharma, the food industry or their own book sales) were reviewing a study on the benefits of a low carbohydrate/Keto diet. In a nutshell, their thoughts were that this type of diet was unlikely to have any health benefits and the benefits that were gained were more likely down to other ”lifestyle changes” that took place around the same time such as better insulin sensitivity, better ghrelin levels, improved gut flora and the production of ketones by the body. Hmm....I wonder how those other “lifestyle changes” happened..........?🤔 Please keep doing what you are doing Dr B, you deserve to be addressed as “Dr”. As for the others, I can only assume they were christened Doctor and did not realise they need to qualify as well!

I started this process 1 month ago. My average fasting glucose was in the 180s-190s with postprandial levels over 260. My estimated A1C according to my glucometer was 8%. As of 2 days ago, my estimated A1C is 5.9% my average daily glucose is around 100 with fasting levels in the 80's & postprandial rarely over 115. I've lost 22 lbs so far (no longer in the obese BMI category!) All of this in ONE MONTH! I'm in this for the long haul with carnivore being my preferred way of eating combined with intermittent fasting. I've also noticed that my enlarged thyroid is shrinking & my eyesight has already improved, I was using +2.0 reading glasses & just had to step back down to +1.75!

Hi Doc. Berry, Anecdotally I have put my type 2 diabetes, (T2D), into remission using a therapeutic ketogenic diet. I dropped 120 lb in 16 months. My waist has reduced from a 48 waist pant to a 32 waist. Lol, don't buy clothes on the way down. Weight lost too quickly? Maybe. I felt the unchecked progression of T2D was a bigger problem long term. My A1c T2D diagnosis was 7.5. My subsequent three post diagnosis A1c's have been 5.2, 5.2, and 5.1 taken every 4 months. 20 g max carb per day, 18/6 time restricted eating, and some fasting. A ton of education from following the algorithms you tube associates with your channel, and wearing a CGM for more than a year, and yes, some discipline to not quit. Thanks for your no BS presentations.👍 When I was 1st diagnosed, I asked my Dr. If T2D was reversable, he said; no, we just manage it. Perhaps the operative phrase is; We just manage it. Meaning that we is they, who remain in ignorance and really dont have a clue. I've decided to stay with my Dr., because I have hopes that my experience will open his eyes. Keep up the good fight Doc Berry. The war is won, but the battle rages on. Hazaa!!

Great job Sue. I was just curious, once you resolved or reversed your diabetes, can you eat carbs without your blood sugar spiking, or do you have to continue on the low carb lifestyle? My elderly mother is T2 diabetic and lost down to a normal weight, but if she eats high carb it spikes her sugars. Now that she's taking a supplement with vanadium and chromium, she can eat carbs and her sugar stays down. In her case anyway, the insulin resistance was or is being caused by a deficiency in vanadium and chromium.

At 86 year old female, went keto about Jan 2021. A1c went down to 5.4. Off all meds in 4 months and have maintained. Savings of $1200 Month. 😁 I find that I now need to reduce carbs further as A1c crept up to 6.4 last blood test. I thought it would go up as glucometer readings showing bigger spikes at my regular low carb intake. Currently staying under 10 net carb. Intermittent fasting helps bring BS back in line but quickly reacts to any carbs. I mostly eat 1 x day. Sometimes 2 if I have guests. I walk 30 min most days., weights and cardio exercise 4 x week, golf 1-2 x week. Planning to do carnivore for a while and see the difference. My doc seems to think that I might need to go on quick acting insulin one day as my C Peptide on the low side. Health basically good otherwise. No aches and pains. Thanks to your channel and a few others who are telling us how it is and ought to be.

You're so right about it being mis-named. When I was first told -- I can't even remember when, probably about 15 years ago -- I didn't even get given pills or any advice. I was told it would have to be "managed" for life, even as recently as a year or two ago. It took a long time for me to figure out what to do. Thankfully now I've found channels like yours and my HbA1c this month was a full 1.0 below my target (which was 6.0, given long-term T2D and two heart attacks) -- it has been almost 12 in the past and was 10.0 less than five months ago). But since going very low carb in May and then carnivore in July, walking daily for about 6-7 miles (10-12km) -- have lost nearly 70lbs and finally can see a future which is much healthier and exciting. Not a single person in the medical industry -- GP/doctor, cardiologist, endocrinologist, nutrition person who saw me after my heart attack -- recommended what has ultimately been the real solution -- only pills, a SAD diet and surgery.

I mean, even without studies, it should be common sense. Insulin resistant? Prediabetic? Diabetic? Cut the frigging carbs!

Most people do not have the will power to eat correctly.

I reversed my type 2 in 3 months after learning & starting Keto & intermittent fasting , started with a a1c of 6.4 but next labs after 3 months of keto 5.3. I’ve been ketovore carnivore since 2018, its a lifestyle change fighting carb addiction. I enjoy this lifestyle because it also helps my chronic Lyme disease

As bleak as this sounds Dr. Barry, I think we just have to except the fact that they don’t care that profits are everything that whether we live or die is irrelevant. So it’s probably best if we just move on, if we do the proper thing listening to your advice get off of sugar and carbohydrates and changing our diet. We can also spread your information to as many people as we know with Diabetes and as far and wide as we can. I thought about this a lot and this is all I can offer. As always thank you so very much for what you do and please take care.

Dr. Berry ROCKS! I needed this reminder! I try and keep my A1C at 5.0-5.4. However since the pandemic I have been eating more carbs and it’s not good. I remember why I did the Keto, Carnivore, and Ketovore before. I’m starting back!

You make so much sense to me and I wish you were our doctor. We are about to begin a carnivore diet but I desperately some real advice on how to help my husband. He is a blue collar worker who doesn't get insurance from work and can't afford healthcare. He is insulin dependant and due to no insurance is forced to survive on what is known as "the homeless insulin" which is 70/30, due to not needing a prescription for it. He only sees a doctor when he's admitted for DKA about once every year or two. He is so thin and can't put on weight no matter what he eats. He now had an ukcer that won't heal on his big toe that is worrying me to death (literally. I have carotid aneurysms and high blood pressure and lost a grandfather to an ignored diabetic foot sore.) and nothing we do is helping. Please do a video on how to care for and heal diabetic foot sores without going to a doctor. I was previously a nurse aide and I know I can help him but I need to know what to do and what not to do from a reliable source, not just a Google search.

I had a blood test for suspected prostate problems 6 months ago, prostate ok but I was told I had type 2 diabetes. I completely changed my diet, no sugar in anything I ate and pretty much living off chicken, fish and salad even changing to Stevia in my coffee. I was obsessive about it. 3 months later I had another blood test and was told my readings were now below what was classed as diabetic. I had lost 3 stones going from 15 st 4lbs to 12 st 3 lbs. So yes it is completely reversible if you have the will power. Also i have nothing to eat after 5 pm till breakfast the next day. Great video.
