I'm on carvedilol and losartan. Went from 270lb to 195 doing Keto for a year. BP at the four months ago was 180/127 with a pulse in the high 80's. Cardiovascular Primary Care Doctor didn't like that I was doing Keto, but liked that I was losing weight. Had my follow up today and I lost 21lbs from the last visit. I think she gets in a rut with most patients not doing anything to help the situation they are in. She was ecstatic and smiled the entire time talking to me about my progress. It was a 100% change in her attitude from when I first started working with her. I've only been on the meds 4 months. The conversation was keep doing what I'm doing and we can talk about getting off/reducing the HBP meds. I keep a journal and my BP has been under 120/80 with a pulse around 60 for 2 months now.

I was switched to Diuretics. Six months later I started getting gout like pains. After a year of suffering my doc just suggested physical therapy. I finally realized it is probably gout and asked to be tested. My Uric Acid level is 11.1 (common side effect of diuretics). I asked to be switched to Losartan. About 5 years ago, my blood pressure was at a point where my Dr wanted me on medication. 155/90. Dr prescribed a calcium channel blocker, Amlodipine. Caused headaches initially and increased heart rate. Within three weeks, BP was 185/100. He took me off it but not before I ended up in hospital, on stroke watch with a BP of 220/110. I lost18 lbs in that time for no reason. It took 2 months to get my BP down to safe levels. Eventually a specialist put me on an ARB and within a week I was perfect. Had to lower the dose twice, to the lowest and BP stays steady around 115/70. Amlodipine is toxic to some people, like me, and the body has to purge it which, caused the weight loss. It is cheap and gets prescribed quite a bit. Beware.

I am 75 and Since 2001 I have been taking BP meds. They controlled my BP pretty well. Recently my BP has been around 160x80 or 175x80. Have started taking two new meds after dropping the old ones. But these are not helping too much. Perhaps I should give them some more time. But I think the main culprit is that recently I have been sleeping all day and during night I have been either on my PC or on my phone watching social media. I know I have to lose weight by more exercise, more physical activities and/or intermittent fasting. All these things are easier said than done. But I have promised to myself that I will do more exercise, more physical activities. I hope my experience will benefit some of you.

Ken, I just wanted to say thank you for this vid. I've known I had high BP for a couple decades. Started out a little high and continued to climb to where I'm at today. Went to the ER for a pain I had and they went through the whole thing. Two blood draws, 6 hrs on the EKG, 2 chest xrays. Turns out all the blood work came out good, xrays fine, EKG fine but blood pressure was way high. An injection brought it down part way but the Dr. wanted it lower so he gave me a small pill. After monitoring me he sent me home. I had an appointment today with my new Primary Care Dr. (didn't have a Dr. for the last 10 years). He did his work and prescribed me LOSARTAN. Prior to leaving the house I watched this vid and wrote down all of the medications and your ranking. The instant the Dr. said what he was going to prescribe I pulled out my list and saw that it was favorable for someone in my situation. That brought comfort to me so, thank you for that.

I used to have blood pressure 220/100 , even higher. I was prescribed Candesartan ever increasing doses. My arteries are like from a 20 year old (I'm 60), they were checked, but the real reason was sleep apnea. I started using the "thing" in my mouth during nights, and that alone lowered the pressure to about 170/80. But I still used Candesartan 32 mg daily. The first side effect after couple of years was the missing of the "morning wood". But when it developed to actual impotence, I got worried. I asked for different medication, but Amlopidine gave other side effects; my boots became too small for me, the swelling was comical. Then I quit the medication and started taking Citrulline and L-Arginine instead. Now the blood pressure is exactly the same as with Candesartan, about 150/75. And even the "morning wood" is coming back. It takes about 2 months or more to get well after the Candesartan, and now I rather die than take any of those "real" medications. They are just poison. And the goal is to find out the cause of the high blood pressure. If your spouse complains about snoring, you propably found one reason. And the Citrulline Malate and the L-Arginine work just in the same way as some "real" drugs, same mechanism. Just without side effects. Ask your doctor a permission to test them and measure your blood pressure daily. If they work for you too, that is the safest way. Worked for me.

@@seabreeze7378 a couple of things so I hope you read on so you can get relief too. Fibromyalgia is believed to be from trauma. Abuse, a sudden loss, an injury or illness. Anything that can cause large amounts or long term releases of adrenaline. The adrenaline is supposed to numb your nerves or certain senses to help you survive the traumatic situation you are facing. It's believed that large or long term releases of adrenaline can actually fry the nerves or nervous system so that messages are not sent or received correctly. Nerves have a lot to do with how our digestive system works so obviously will cause problems. Now, I recently found relief in doing a parasite cleanse. Which I laughed at, ignored and thought was stupid for the last 10 years. However when an ongoing cough wouldn't get better with a pulmonologist, rheumatologist, and numerologist, along with 2 surgeries I was desperate. Did some research, listened to other people that discovered the same thing and started a regimen That was aggressive but WORKED. Yea you get rid of worms but there are microscopic parasites that we don't think about that cause havoc through it body including inflammation. The relief I found is beyond what I could hope for. Thanks for the video. I do have a comment: One of the side effects of Lisinopril is a sporadic but intense hacking cough. Besides being annoying it got a lot uncomfortable looks from during Covid from friends and strangers. Several of my friends had the same problem and switched to Losartan. For all of us, the cough went away when we changed

Dr Berry, you are one of the youtube doctors i watch that helped me for 2 years to greatly reduce the symptoms of diabetes and high blood pressure. your diet advices are logical and reasonable, all i needed to do is follow them then gradually the symptoms just went away. my blood pressure meds are down to 2 tabs and sometimes i just need to take 1 because when i check its not that really far off the mark. my diabetic neuropathy and blurry vision is just gone. thank you!

I took Clonidine for a week and stopped it, but the blood pressure clinic doctor told me that if it had a side effect, stop it.I took atenol for 15 plus years, but last year my blood pressure clinic doctor changed it to Bissoprolol. I stopped my self Terrazosin because I was also taking chlorthalidone, which later leg muscle cramps, probably due to a huge loss of water. I've been taking amlodipine now for 2-3 months and a long time ago and feel that it causing me problems. in 5 days will see the doctor and ask him to replace it with safer medication.

I had to deliver my baby at 35 weeks and immediately put on 30 mg of Nifedipine and 200 mg of Labetolol. My blood pressure went up to the 160's/90' but has since now regulated itself to what it was pre-pregnancy. I tried to do EVERYTHING in my power to get off the Nifedipine as it was causing me to retain water in my ankles and get puffy aside from making my heart race so fast! It was crazy I thought I was going to pass out not only from the racing but how hard I felt it pounding!

I am now on Verapamil 80mg 3 times daily, Candesartan 8mg and Indapamaide 1.5mg that the hospital put me on and my blood pressure is now 119/76 I was stupid taking myself off medication and I won't be doing anything stupid like that again. Wanted to share my experience with hydrochlorothiazide. I took it for a decade and one day I broke out in a rash on my arms that spread over my whole body. After 9 months and 3 doctors and a skin biopsy I found out I had developed an allergy to that med. It started to clear about a week after I after I quit taking it. None of my doctors thought that my rash had anything to do with my meds. I had to do a lot of my own sleuthing to figure it out.

After putting me on all the usual meds for high BP. a cardiologist put me on Aldactone. The adrenal gland on the top of my kidney was not working properly. We had to find the right dosage. So I am on 25 mg per day. BP is fine now. I am so glad that my GP sent me for cardio tests. My BP was always between 160/95 or 200/118. Needless to say I am still around. BP is now 125/ 75.

@The Midnight Hour with Carolyn Yours is a valid point also. Perhaps there is a balance between the two. The theory for my mum is that she has smoked all of her life and a poor diet will have contributed to calcium deposits in the heart and arteries. Apparently, K2 removes the calcium and redistributes it into the bones and teeth. Maybe the solution is to just take K2? We live in the northern hemisphere and as my mum doesn't go out much, I'm confident that she will have required some level of vitamin D supplementation.
