Even well-meaning doctors still try to put everyone in the same bucket and make blanket statements when that's just evidentially not the case. @@dasfahrer8187 Just to be clear, I have it figured out. Works perfectly for my wife and I. The only issues that friends have ever expressed have been psychological issues -missing sweets, missing side dishes, lack of discipline, lack of conviction, etc. The adjustment from omnivory to carnivory is sometimes slower and more difficult than at other times, presenting very much as you described, but the actual carnivory itself is never the problem for us and for most. It seems unlikely that we’re so different from every other species in that we don’t have a specific species appropriate diet. I have had CKD Stage 3a for around 20 years, I followed standard UK advice and took the blood pressure tablets, and Statins as recommended. I kind of held level, just dropping slightly. After changing countries, and getting better nutrition advice, initially LOWERING protein, because of the anxte shown by the medics I saw a mixed bag, sometimes better sometimes worse going down to 47eGFR at one point. Slowly I have become much more meat based, with veggies, and fats a plenty, and both my last labs had me at 61eGFR. I believe it is an associative assumption that because the kidneys are spilling protein that the kidneys are being damaged by the protein. I think the kidneys simply are spilling what they can't process, and as a building block the protein is needed to keep the body going. Currently 70 years of age, on no medication, just Iron supplements, and multivitamin, with no other conditions worth a mention, a BP generally in the 117 0ver 72 at 60 BPS, and able to work harder than I did 10 years ago.

Added to that I gave in to one of my weak spots which was ice cream, which I started making bigger and bigger plate loads... Other than those two things I could not think of anything too different from when things were going well. So I think reduce ice cream to a minimum, just a treat, and not so much protein at a sitting. Time will tell, I don't have another check up until March. As for advice, I think the main thing to do is minimise the carbs, balance the meal with veggies plus make the portions moderate, and be aware of the amount of carbs in processed foods.

@@capnpugwash5403 please keep us posted! my labs are in March too and I'm terrified. Diabetic and CKD3. thank you. what do you think of a low carb plant based diet?
@capnpugwash54032 жыл бұрын
@@laanam5456 I think as a diabetic you can cease being diabetic unless that is type 1, even those people can have improved health by totally avoiding carbs for 60 to 90 days. Diabetes is Insulin resistance where you have overloaded your cells with insulin from your pancreas. As a result the cells go deaf and will not listen to the insulin knocking on the door. Reduce Carbs.... ALL carbs, to as close to zero as you can, and after a period of time the body realises it is not being overwhelmed, and starts to listen to the insulin. After that cold turkey period you can then consume carbs in moderation without returning to a diabetic condition. It is worth 3 months of deprivation to keep your eyesight, and not lose feet and legs to amputation. Also sugars are inflammatory, so will make ANY condition worse, and cause many. Cancer loves sugar. I would personally suggest a combination of veggies and protein, in the form of fish eggs, red meat, and fowl. Also do not be afraid of fat it is extremely low in terms of creating insulin spikes. But ALL foods are converted to glucose in the body, just at a rate that you can cope with. While removing all carbs is the best policy, if you are on meds like metformin, or worse still using insulin, then you really need to monitor your blood sugars with a meter to make sure you do not become Hypo, but it should be possible to wean yourself off the meds in quite a short period of time. I have caused my wife to no longer be pre-diabetic, and a couple of other people to have greatly improved health with this advice.

Thank you so much for this video. Several members of my family & friends need this info and I am sharing it with them. I have been on the carnivore diet for 2 months now & feel so much better. I cheated last Friday with peach pie & ice cream. I had severe pain in my joints with in a few hours that lasted into the following day. Guess I will not cheat again as I don't care for that condition and it was difficult to get around and do simple things. God bless you & your family. ♡

"Cheating" once per month, then once per week, and finally on entire weekends, put an end to my low carb diet after I'd been on it a couple years. When I finally realized processed sugar is a poison, like alcohol, tobacco and heroin, I got back on the low carb/ Keto wagon. Having cake or pie is like an ex-smoker having a cigarette. Or, recovering alcoholic having a drink. When you look at it that way, cheating makes no sense!

I haven't been officially diagnosed with CKD, but based on my own research, it seems I might be in stage 2 (blood markers are not correct in the 'normal' range IMHO), and I've noticed a reduction in urine output. I've also dealt with gout for 10 years. In addition, I'm overweight, struggle with high blood pressure, and take medication. I started the carnivore diet a week ago, but it triggered a gout flare-up. My last glucose reading was 109 over a year ago, and I suspect I'm diabetic since I often feel terrible after eating carbs. Despite these challenges, over the past week, I’ve seen numerous success stories on youtube about the carnivore diet, and I plan to stick with it to improve my health, lose weight, and to help other medical conditions, including my renal function. Thanks for sharing the video :)

You are spot on about the carbs. I was diagnosed with type II diabetes about 5 years ago and was told I had probably had it for around 10 years. So, it had done a lot of damage. Poor circulation, neuropathy, high blood pressure etc. Doctors told me type II was reversable but never told me how. They gave diet suggestions that included carb restriction but after researching found their allowed carb intake levels were way too high to do any good. They obsessed mostly over cholesterol. I eventually got the picture that lowering carbs was very important. Once I started cutting my carb intake, I started seeing my blood sugar readings go down. My doctor had me on Metformin of 1000mg twice a day. After this last test he dropped the dosage to 500mg once a day. I expected my blood sugar to go up after that, but instead it is still slowly going down. He never asks me what I was doing and when I told him I was cutting carbs, I got no reaction. It's like they pay no attention to diet or very little. And any advice on diet is very minimal. They also pretty much ignore what their patients tell them. They seem preprogrammed to do only what they were taught. And apparently do not keep up with studies. Their main tool for treatment is drugs. Unfortunately, before I got my blood sugar under control much damage had been done, such as losing three toes so far. I do seem to be improving as the healing in my feet seems faster now. I think I still have a long way to go but the carb info has helped me the most. Right now, I'm having some issues with constipation so any advice on that would be helpful. Thanks for all the great advice you give.

Last year I discovered that my Kidney creatinine reading, from June 2019, of 73ml/mm was abnormal (normal range being 90-120). I then learnt that kidneys are vital in synthesising Vit D, which is an important vitamin for the immune system, particularly now during the pandemic. I was taking well over 75ug so wasn’t too worried until I got the results of my blood test in November. The kidney creatinine reading was down by 9 to 64ml/mm and I was advised to increase my Vit D consumption as my Vit D levels were low. I started keto at the beginning of December 2020 and after 3-4 months I switched to carnivore and then I discovered that I had food sensitivities to all cheeses and dairy products so cut those out. In May 2021 I had another blood test and my kidney creatinine reading was 74ml/mm so in 6 months of making the change my kidney reading had improved to a point above the June 2019 reading. That’s sufficient proof for me to continue doing what I’m doing. Here’s to good health. Thank you Dr Berry for all the great advice you put online. I have learnt sooo much!! :)

GFR is only calculation. if you eat carnivora carnitin gets higher and consequently GFR gets lower. So ,GFR is not goog measure for people on carnivora. Try to measure cystatin C as a measure of renal function, it is much better

My chance to save my kidneys passed when a doctor just sat back and watched them get worse. My current doctor is the best and has me on a list for a kidney. The figure I have a two year wait. If there was a way to save my kidneys I wish I knew it 9 years ago.

They found out after 6 years that I was insulin resistant. How did my endocrinologist not recognize the signs? My thyroid the medication was to high. My family doctor changed all my meds. Now I use insulin maybe 2 or 3 times a week. Only if needed. I was given the omnipod. My sugars stayed in the 300. As soon as I stopped using it my sugars dropped.

Means you have diabetes? Not just insulin resistant
@btudrus3 жыл бұрын
@@93luvxoxo Insulin resistance IS t2-diabetes. Just that the absolute majority of those having T2-diabetes are in a "pre-clinical" phase (which can last for tens of years) and are undiagnosed by physitians...

My uncle has significant kidney problems (I don't recall the actual diagnosis). However, he's been eating low-carb long before it was mainstream (not counting ancient history of course). He avoids all sugar and grains (although recently with the pandemic he added pasta for financial reasons). He does not have diabetes that I'm aware of and is not obese. Any ideas of what else he may be able to do to improve or reverse his kidney disease?

👋 👋 👋 I am nearing week three on the ketovore diet. My lupus nephritis (iii, v) has been in remission for a little over a year. Working out and “eating healthy” has always been part of my lifestyle. Because of the lupus, my kidneys already have some damage according to a kidney biopsy a couple years back and I’m worried about this diet possibly further damaging my kidneys. So far, I’m loving the results- more energy, less inflammation, loss of unwanted fat, etc. but I just worried about what is going on on the inside. It is concerning because I’m having trouble finding research based on cases like mine with LN pertinent to the carnivore diet. I would love to continue the diet but not without having to sacrifice the health of my already damaged kidneys from the lupus. I hope you see this message, Dr. Berry I already know my nephrologist will think I’m crazy for taking on this diet, so I won’t even mention it 🤫

I was held in a hospital one time for a month for peritonitis and placed on a kidney friendly diet. My normal average GFR of 58 went to 85. Not kidding. I still have 8 years of lab work in the hospitals online app to prove it. Anything would have been an improvement for me because I ate nothing but fast food back then and lots of soda pop. I lost 40 lbs. of fat too in that month. Didn't have an appetite at all.

What diet/foods did they put you on?
@davidkellymitchell4747Ай бұрын
@@lf7065 Bland steamed vegetables, broiled chicken, baked fish, bread rolls and cookies. As I said, I seldom ate any of it because I had an infected stomach lining and lost all appetite. I drank 2 to 3 tiny bottles of Insure a day to stay alive. Glucerna is actually more kidney friendly but that hospital didn't have any. I had to have it imported to the hospital by family.
