Maybe its just me but the winning men seems to be below the monouchi... how did that count? but what do I know about this level. Matsumoto sensei seems equally baffled cos he too expected a men at this distance to not be counted hence his comfort with no reacting to it.

I'd say it was done exactly with the monouchi, and Matsumoto did react, just not correctly. He seemed to be going for tsubazeriai after the initial men instead of expecting a second strike.
