As a Kendrick fan and someone who went to his last world tour, I have full faith that he will put on the best halftime show that we’ve ever seen. I will say that I was shocked when I saw him perform at the Super Bowl a few years ago. I listen to his lyrics and it is a valid critique, especially when he makes music about capitalism, oppression, and various other social issues. I also understand that he said that he isn’t a savior and that we shouldn’t expect certain things from celebrities. Nevertheless, I believe he’ll use the stage to send a message and I wish people would let him have his moment.

Yes he does. Love his message filled music and he holds back no punches with his critiques of capitalism and things of that nature. I’m glad he’s got this platform and I just hope more people at some point catch on to what he’s saying

Kendrick literally has a song speaking to the fact he is not a "savior", in fact his music is at times therapy for his personal issues with himself... Its the reason why Drake's angles backfired so badly. And why the third verse of "Not Like Us" was so devestatingly impactful.

Like who cares lol, the fact he comes off as an activist and gaining the popular vote because of that, yes drake can call that out, it was a rap beef for crying out loud. Then kendrick calls drake a culture vulture, I'm sorry weren't people protesting the nfl about taking a knee during the anthem, but he sides with an organization that was cracking down on black people's freedom of speech because they didn't want to lose all the whyte fans money and support. Sounds a little hypocritical . I agree that kendrick should be able to perform at the Super Bowl and meets the criteria, but let's not act like this is not a jabb from both kendrick and jay-z

@@TheRealTySmall I was gonna say, that's absolutely where the whole "Not Like Us is Kendrick's first hit" and "Kendrick is nothing without Drake" nonsense comes from... anti-intellectualism, and the blinders that come with it. Dot has four #1 hits, let alone other bangers. Anti-intellectualism is a plague throughout American history and is the reason for cult45. Speaking of politics, if Kamala wins, Kendrick could even bring Beyonce out and do "Freedom", Harris' campaign song, just a couple weeks after her swearing in. There's a lot of anti-Black Black people out there, and they don't even realize it. Society has really beat them down to where we can't even congratulate or try to uplift each other. Shaming someone for uplifting their own in music has to be some kind of side effect of psychological warfare.

Totally agree with every one of your points bro, although I will say the second someone starts publicizing their philanthropy, it comes off as disingenuous. We don't know what Kendrick has done for his community and communities as a whole and maybe we're not meant to know. You're spot on with those talking points though, it stems from people being conditioned by the music industry to turn their brains off to music with a message. It''s rare when an artist like Kendrick breaks through to the mainstream and like you, I've always found it surprising that he's as popular as he is for that reason. Hope your channel continues to grow!

People are trying their hardest to rewrite history about Kendrick Lamar, they are trying to make it seem like he’s this underground new artist that just rose from the ashes like a phoenix because of this beef, be right before the Kendrick had just got off the Mr. morale tour Which was top two grossing hip-hop if not the most grossing hip-hop rapper tour in history as a solo act, Drake and 21 Savage Gross more but that wasn’t a solo tour that was a duo tour….. Kendrick Lamar is also a multi platinum rapper, who has 17 Grammys, and the Pulitzer award, and a top three performer and rap Kendrick is one of the greatest performers and rap history….. on stage performance, that is, and then they say Kendrick Lamar has no songs. He only has one song called. They not like us, that is so far from the truth, but those Drake fans gazers will change the narrative on anything to benefit their guy Aubrey….. Kendrick has been around for 12 years and he’s been a mega star he’s not some underground artist. He has a very extensive catalog.

You are right to connect this embrace of toxicity and dysfunction to antiblackness and white supremacy. There has been 9 or more Super Bowl in NO. At no point has Wayne, Cashmoney etc been ready to headline the SB and they not ready now. They barely pulled it together for Essence fest. These yt aint playing around with the biggest sport night on a wing and a pray.. Also it's never based on local artists. Rihanna not from AZ, Usher ain't from Vegas and Kenny no from NO. Get OVER IT!

I love Wayne and all but I’m very confused why Niki Minaj is going off as if lil Wayne can’t defend himself. What we need is Lil Wayne to release a statement and get rid of the argument. The other argument is that sometimes artists from home aren’t always chosen to perform when the Super Bowl is at home. I also find it funny maybe Niki Minaj relates too much to the “A MINORRR” line since her husband is a child diddler. Might be why she’s all defensive about it. Might be trying to stop Kendrick from calling Drake out on live television.

Ima need you to do more of these kinds of videos! My people have been put to sleep by stooges and it's going to take alot of content creators like YOU to educate them! Who Named It Conscious Rap? It's Rap! It's what started Rap in the first place. WE need more of IT than WE need the garbage we've gotten for the last 20+ years! Money, sex, violence and drugs is what's killing the Genre. Look how many people listened to KDOT's lyrics during the battle. Look at the creativity he brought with just his lyricism. That's Real Rap and that's what the Genre has been lacking. And NO! That's NOT a legitimate critique of KDOT. Google proves it!

100% true. That’s the point of the song and I love the message. And I like to say it’s okay to have the ignorant stuff on the music scene, but there HAS to be a balance between that and the conscious music, and the issue is that right now there is a major imbalance.

Don’t say it’s a legitimate criticism and then say “i haven’t looked into it at all! Kendrick has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Compton Unified School District’s music, sports, and after-school programs. He also gave $50,000 to his high school’s music program where the students see him as a role model. Those examples alone! Not to mention all the other money he’s generated for important causes.

It’s funny that you mentioned you’re surprise Kendrick Lamar got this popular although to me it’s pretty obvious why he got this popular. The main reason he’s the top comes down to two other things other than just music.. and I’m someone who has no problems admit and he’s a great lyricist talented artist and has made good albums, or even has albums that is a classic. However, to me, the two main reasons come down to. he was signed to Dr. Dre and Interscope. That is one powerful machine in the industry. That’s the same people who back Eminem plus Dr. Dre is a recognizable brand synonymous with rap music. Having that Dr. Dre stamp of approval, especially if he really gets behind your project and really take you over the hump. Also, he done a lot of songs with a lot of pop backs that could help cross them over especially Taylor Swift, which was the big one which I think really brought him over to a more mainstream audience who probably doesn’t listen to a whole Lot of hip-hop but now listen to Kendrick Lamar especially because he worked with Taylor Swift. I still stand by the fact that I think that he not signed to Dr. Dre he would have more of a niche hip hop fanbase who day, one backpackers people who like underground, hip-hop, and conscious rap. He wouldn’t have the popularity he has now. To me, his level of popularity would be the same as someone like mos def Talib Kweli dead prez rass kass and other rappers who are great rappers, but only sell to a certain demographic. Now I do think he had to have the talented and be able to make music that people would listen to to maintain that popularity. Still I don’t think if he didn’t have the Dr. Dre Jimmy Iovine machine behind him As well as the crossover features we wouldn’t of seen all these awards we wouldn’t have seen the Pulitzer Prize the Super Bowl or any of this. To me, that’s why in part I feel he’s that popular.

@@TheRealTySmall glad you get it. Believe me I know this one who is a diehard Taylor Swift fan and loves Kendrick Lamar. They did a song together so put two and two together. It makes sense. And I’m sure she’s not the only one. I’m pretty sure to a lot of these people that are Taylor Swift/Kendrick fans and that’s not to say all of them, but a lot of them probably don’t listen to a whole lot of other hip-hop and probably don’t listen to any of the rappers I named. I know some people don’t like to admit to it, but the reality is that brand power can give you leverage as an artist sometimes

Here’s the thing: I predict this will be similar to the Ken & Friends Pop out, where Kendrick headlines it, but he brings a few guests native to New Orleans. We’ve seen from how Kendrick tore apart Drake, he’s a planner, he likes to put minor details. I think he’s gonna have at LEAST one influential New Orleans guest

The best SNL performance I have ever seen was Anderson Paak preform Tints while singing and playing the drums. Kendrick has a feature on that song and he showed up, unannounced, to do his part. They each did a phenomenal job. Unfortunately the video isn’t on KZbin anymore, but it was some time in season 44 if anyone is interested. Also, doesn’t one of Kendrick’s first big hits feature Drake??? Funny how people seem to forget about Poetic Justice 🧐

I have been looking at all of this nonsense Kendrick deserves this accomplishment stop the hate. Then I hear the hate for Jay-z for this decision, some say he makes the decision of the super bowl entertainment, then I hear that the host city makes the final decision and if this is true then Wayne's own city did not select him so what does this say to you.
@TheRealTySmall
@TheRealTySmall 22 күн бұрын
Agreed. And I’m not 100% behind Jay z a lot of times, but this still rings true. People critiquing him wouldn’t be saying these things if their favorite artist was picked. In that case there would be no problem with Jay. All these things said about him now.. I wonder how much they would be said if Wayne was chosen
