Her voice is what I would imagine I would hear walking through a haunted graveyard during a foggy full moon night and It would be coming from the edge of the dark woods. Love her.

oooh, this is from the live dvd 'Anywhere But Home', and mind you, this song happens well into the second half of the set, and still she's got the energy for it. pretty awesome.
@ordinaryviewer54932 жыл бұрын
Going back to that comment about her leaning forward on the piano and how it can affect her voice, she purposely sings the beginning of the song like that. its very vulnerable, quiet, breathy at the start to match the piano intro and to give that haunting atmosphere. When the band comes in that’s when her voice opens up more to match the bands energy. She’s able to emote a lot in her music and we as listeners can feel what she’s singing-she’s that good.

I think the leaning forward is part of the building pressure for the story telling in the song. She gave me the chills again at this point in the song already. I bought a copy of this song on the apple store a decade ago. It’s masterful.

There is something really special watching a reactionary video when it isn’t necessarily their favorite genre - just the appreciation of the instrument - this isn’t a style I’m usually drawn to either, though was one of my fav songs in school. - with its dark, edgy almost pleading lyrics and the mix of heavy metal it draws you in.

You could see how she s still so talented. This was filmed back in 2004 and nowadays they spiced it up a bit during live performances. Evanescence is currently touring with KoRn to support their latest album , The Bitter Truth. It'd be so nice to see people react to it. I recommend its intro: Artifact/The Turn + Broken Pieces Shine (those two songs go together). They uploaded to their official KZbin channel their setlist for Novarock 2022 and you can see their growth as a band. She still got it

LOL "The Hasselhoff of the whole tone"..?! that one was both so funny and scary (picture wise) that I had to take a moment to collect my breath after that jump scare 😂 On to the reaction, will edit in some thoughts later (if they amount to something). Ok, I'm getting a fair amount of Sharon den Adel vibes (Within Temptation). Both bands are sometimes still described as "metal" bands, but to my ears this is already quite more mainstream rock. I've heard some American reactors mention the name of this singer when they first encountered Nightwish (with Floor). For reference, I can somewhat understand why they'd do that. But both from a compositional and most certainly from a vocalist's perspective though, I'd say that the comparison would be thoroughly unfounded. I've heard the song on the radio back in the day. Nice rock tune (don't like the guy chiming in), but a bit too 'poppy' for me.

Ken, in a few reactions you've seemed mystified on the production of live shows and questioned if it was a studio track overdubbed on concert footage like you can't comprehend the three part harmonies of Iron Maiden or the near perfection of Amy Lee's voice. I've seen Maiden twice: in the late 80's and in the 2010's and I can say they really are that good live. Others to check out are Nightwish and Halestorm. While not as technically proficient you should also check out Beth Hart.
