Awesome to see one of the first Kenmore direct drives. Judging by the prehistoric tub ring and gold agitator, this must have been a 1980-81 machine, which also means it'd be a rear-facing-motor machine. Would be awesome to have a look at the underside of it!

Wow! I didn't know Sears sold a 24-inch machine in black. I thought that was reserved for the higher-end, more feature-laden models like the Lady Kenmore.

@@roblitchke4886 yeah Sears and whirlpool were just selling prototypes models and sold it until 1983 where the white models were released

That's the only black direct drive I've seen besides mine. I'd be really interested in seeing underneath and/or inside this machine. I'm curious how much they changed after the first couple years. I'm most interested in seeing the transmission and clutch.

THIS YEAR DOESNT HAVE THAT OPTION. THIS IS BEFORE ALL THAT. THERE IS NO PAUSE IN THE SPIN CYCLE WORKED IN THE TIMER

@dougwright5014 What year did they end up putting a neutral drain in these machines? I'm curious to see the difference in the drive train on these verses the neutral drain models.

@dougwright5014 Interesting. Both of my machines are from 1989 and 1990 so they both have a neutral drain. Do you know why they changed it? Was it something to do with wearing out the clutch early or something?

I've never seen the gold agitator in a direct drive. I thought by the end of the belt drives they had gone to all white agitators.

My 2nd gen model behaved very similarly when I first got it. definitely made a lot of noise when it had the original gear case in it.

Very cool. I never thought I'd see a direct drive washer with a gold agitator. I remember many of the belt drives had gold agitators, like my grandparents' 1976 Kenmore All American alphabet washer they used to have. Is it possible to get a gold dual action agitator for a direct drive washer?

Wow! This early Kenmore Standard Capacity Direct Drive washer is from 1981-1982! Why is it so noisy compared to the 1986-2011 Whirlpool/Kenmore Large Capacity & Standard Capacity Direct Drive washers? Please enlighten me!

I thought the whirlpool agitator was white with the wings on the base… and the kenmore was the gold with the lint barrel…

Just passed a similar machine on the side of the road this morning, seems to have a busted belt as the agitator moved freely. Too bad I couldn’t save it

Can you do a Large Load on Cotton Sturdy (14) with High Water Level, Hot Wash/Cold Rinse, & with Prewash?

Wow the 1981 Kenmore dd is beautiful and rare but it does need a little bit of fixing including where's the vented ring around the tub and the tub is kinda noisy but east fix
