This is not meant for rugs. I suppose you could vacuum your rugs if the roller was dry, but it won’t agitate the carpet.

I can’t speak to durability on a brand new product, but it seems well made. You can use any floor cleaner with it

Yes, it can, but if you longer human hair, you might need to detangle the roller. Cleaning the roller is something you'll be doing every now and then anyway.
