well.. he is the Ground Traffic Control, while he's in control, it's his taxiway. Like when a Pilot says to the Captain "your plane" they both know it's not owned by the Captain.. it's just under their full control at that time, it's theirs.

Brillant catch. "You are not a port vehicle." Aww, Steve is just never satisfied. When a port vehicle calls, he wants a plane, when a plane calls he wants a vehicle ... :D Although that 1818-episode, well ... unnecessary, in my world, you always get taxi instructions etc. from GND, not your ramp. Still, they were lucky they got Steve, this "I am so bored and speak monotonously"-GND-Controller ... well. Would have been much more unpleasant.

@gungadinn
@gungadinn 7 жыл бұрын
That comes from doing the job for 30 years. He doesn't have to second guess commands One thing you can tell though, he doesn't like TUG drivers. I guess the airlines don't give them the training required to be proficient using the radio. As a private pilot, I'd never fly into any of the most congested air ports in the country. Between radios not completely tuned to frequency and having 40 plus taxiways, even having electronic charts on board, I'd pass.

Hi guys, nice atc footage, anyone know what mean rwyXX shortened please ?
@richboy2307
@richboy2307 8 жыл бұрын
"Runway XX Shortened" is specifically used during runway construction to indicate the actual available runway distances are different than published in the charts. So basically, not starting takeoff from the end of the runway, but somewhere in between.

It has only to do with takeoff distance, not necessarily any construction or blockage. Many times, ATC will ask pilots to take off "shortened" for various reasons - traffic congestion, letting a pilot take off while there's another aircraft on approach (getting the departure pilot into the sky ASAP rather than waiting), etc.
@rogervoss4877
@rogervoss4877 6 жыл бұрын
Except in the usage here it's for a Runway without all the published length available, to anyone. Still part of official description to all as a reminder of the lower length than in the 'book' for it. I saw 31R mentioned as having an overrun added as part of the published length for example, but NEVER available for takeoffs (in normal circumstances at least). At a guess, you'd have to taxi to the end & U-Turn to use it (I should check the charts on that sometime). On this and other ATC included videos I've seen ATC might ask a Pilot if they can "accept a short takeoff" from a certain taxiway intersection, and the shortened length is given for reference. Then if they accept it, final clearance might be taxi (letter) to runway (number), short departure from intersection.

Responses to your query are wrong. At the time of the recording, 13R/31L was under construction for repaving. As a result, the full length of the runway was not available for use on departures and arrivals. This is why the disclaimer 13R shortened was given. Even though this information should have been available to pilots in a NOTAM, ATC was giving this disclaimer to pilots to help ensure that they were aware that the full length of the runway was not available due to repaving activities.

@rick2340atyahoocom
