I imagine that if Kennedy Steve ever got mad enough to tell someone to go to hell, it would be Left on Hades, Right on Damnation, hold short of Purgatory, and once Charon moves out of the way, enter Hell.

What I find funny is that, having listened to quite a few of these by now, I think "wow, this is the most tension I've ever heard in his voice" - and even then, he's not stressed, he's just being brisk.
@dizzyology7514
@dizzyology7514 6 жыл бұрын
Brisk is a good description. Steve could handle situations like this one -- rush hour on a snowy day, with plows on the runways and planes needing to be de-iced before takeoff -- without losing his cool or even his sense of humor. The only thing that bothered him, as we see here is when a plane or other vehicle on the taxiways failed to respond when Steve called them. When he would say something like "Earth to Delta 2540" you knew he was starting to simmer. But even then, once he finally established contact, he didn't get nasty (as some controllers do) -- he just complained briefly that they hadn't responded before and then carried on with his instructions. He understood remarkably well that pilots are human and can make mistakes -- he'd make sure they knew that they'd caused a problem for him, but he didn't make it personal. Steve retired Sept. 1, 2017, and is much missed by the pilots, by his colleagues in the tower, by his fans here on KZbin -- maybe even by the tug drivers! :-)

Yes, Steve almost sounds cranky at one point, but still professional, and he kept his cool and had command of the situations. An hour at this pace would destroy a lesser man. After watching some of these videos I have acquired enormous respect for air traffic controllers!

Steve is my definition of a true “alpha male“. Never gets nasty, but oozes authority. A natural. (I really hate the alpha beta male bullshit that comes up at times. When it does, their idea of alpha just seems nasty to me....)

I've been watching a lot of these videos and I noticed too, that the jokes are useful. I bet he had positive effects literally around the world.

LiveATC's feed is worse, much worse than what the ground controller hears. Trust me all his conversations are pretty much clear as a blue sky. It is the equipment that the person uses and the altitude at which the equipment catches the radio frequencies that worsen's the quality. Like if you notice the pattern: All the ground vehicles and small planes like EMB 135/145 are tough to listen to them
@H89SA
@H89SA 9 жыл бұрын
Raphael Aubry Well, I hope they all understand that this feed isn't directly from the Tower antenna. Guy who provides the feed for liveatc could be in the range of 10-15 km's from the JFK. Quality of the audio depends where you live and what's your surrounding.

Being part of a snow pack is difficult...because you are listening to two radios all the time. Sometimes you can be giving or receiving instructions from one...while you are being requested to copy on the other.
