Kennel training is so important. We have a very big Kennel. Our Basenji stays there if we have to leave. He feels safe there and is sleeping till we return. At the moment i can not leave him alone outside the kennel, otherwise he will disturb something. Kennel is safe for him and for us 😊

I am also a fellow Basenji owner! Haven't see many training videos featuring them. But must say, disappointing as the kennel size is far to small for Benji.

It's not too small at all. You need to learn about crate training. The crate should never be too big
@Chloe-gh1xh
@Chloe-gh1xh 4 жыл бұрын
@@SS-cd6ie it is definitely too small, the dog has to be able to fully turn and stand comfortably, in this crate the Basenji will recieve back issues later in life. Please research on proper crate training so you don't make these mistakes.

@@Chloe-gh1xh not too small only room to stand up, lay down & turn! anything bigger & you get problems with them going toilet in the crate or destroying what's inside! it's only for training & they shouldn't be left as he said more than 4hrs

@@lilynzo4105 Sure. It's an intelligent and energetic breed, but very stubborn, independent and curious. He won't listen to you until he wants to; always alertive to enviroment so he can only focus on you for a very short period; won't give up on his objective such like shoes and tissues, not easy to teach him 'No' ; off-leash trainning is a big challege, when he dashes towards his prey, you'd better consider he is deaf... However, he is cute, nice with people and most dogs(if not taken home), very hygienic, I don't regret having him.

@@lilynzo4105 No problem, I'd love to discuss with Basenji owners, there are so few... I guess you are talking about some inherited disease, my Basenji is only 13 months, so far very healthy so I have zero experience about that. Ocationally he will has diarrhea when eat sth. wrong, but some yogurt will solve the problem.

That kennel is NOT too small! I had a dog with severe crate anxiety, and during my research I found out that dogs feel safer and more secure in a smaller crate because it mimics a den. In the wild canines will dig dens for themselves, not caves. The den usually has a very small entrance, and is snug on the inside, which they like. Getting a smaller kennel that was solid on all sides (other than the holes for air circulation and the door) made my dog feel alot safer, and he started sleeping in it when he didn't even have to be in it. I don't like those kind of kennels (the one being used) because they are too open, the dog feels like it has no cover or protection, just a sitting duck, plus they can chew on the bars and damage teeth.

Why the frick would you expect the dog to do something without giving them any cues as to what you want? That’s just bizarre! I mean, I get there are all different types of training options out there... at least you aren’t purposely scaring the dog. But giving it no information and expecting it to understand? That’s just bizarre.

Good advice but crate is FAR to small for that dog so a bit worrying you are advocating that small crate for that size dog. He cant even stand in there comfortably with his head held at normal height
