If anyone is wondering I still have the original eraser bits from '82 in my Falcon. Thank you Tony for making this video!

What a great fix! Thanks for passing this along! I noticed this was happening to my old Falcon many years ago, and my fix was just to stick a toothpick through each rear landing gear to hold it up, because my engineering skills were awesome.
@stephenhorn15234 жыл бұрын
I used a Qtip with the ends cut off in a similar fashion. Its a great simple fix if you want to keep legs locked in the down position, really works well. Just wanted to pass that on to everyone. Thanks for well needed video!

Wow! Thank you David, Joseph, and Tony. I just bought a Millennium Falcon last month to replace the one lost to time back in the 80s. Everything on it was in great shape except for the loose landing gear. I've watched Michael from RetroBlasting use sticky tack to jam between the hull and gear, and I've also heard of people heating up the gear catches to bend them back to shape. But this method strikes just the right balance between DIY and inconspicuousness for my taste. I'm gonna buy an eraser today!
@JFvE4 жыл бұрын
Awesome 👍 . It's very little risk of breaking anything and keeps them working without being immediately obvious. After 38 years in place the same eraser bits are still doing the job.

This was beyond helpful for someone who also has this exact same problem. I had resorted to putting a clear baseball cube under the back end so the weight sat on that. I will definitely consider this as an option going forward. Thanks Tony

Luckily, my Falcon has lived most of its life with the gear down so I haven't yet encountered this problem. But this is a fantastic fix that I will employ if needed. Thanks!

Nice little easy fix. Have to check mine, but mine is in flight mode being suspended by fishing line, right above my Sith Infiltator and Cobra movie Night Raven. Still gotta get my M.A.S.K. Switchblade in flight with them.

Wow thanks for the tip I really appreciate it-so I tried it but also wrapped the rubber around with black electrical tape which is the same width to give it firmness and strength-it worked like a charm plus being black also doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb Thanks M8

Another method: I tried boiling them, after gently pushing the clips out with smooth nails, and then dip into cold water afterward to cool the plastic into shape. Worked like a charm!!

A better way is it put the landing gear in hot water for a couple of minutes and then get something to use as a wedge behind the clip, causing it to flex outwards more. Do this to both clips (I used 2 good thick Allen keys) and then leave in sun and let cool naturally in to the night air. Works a treat!

I've got a Power of the Force 2 one sealed never opened but all I need are the remote thing that Luke tries to block, just one of those beads they make at hobby places with the concave sides to them will work. I don't remember if it has the arm it attaches to but if not no biggie it's the same mold as the original.

Tony, using a rubber is a great fix for a problem all men eventually experience in their lives if they own a Millennium Falcon (Haha!). Jokes aside, brilliant video. Thanks for sharing. I’m not the most handy guy in the world and my eyesight isn’t so terrific either, so I’m hoping you are willing to share the exact dimensions the rubber, I mean eraser, should be to get a perfect fit in there. I’m afraid I’m going to cut it too short, too long, etc. Please spare me the pain and shame and help a brother out. Thanks again and May the Force Be With You Mr. Templar.

I've seen some of those rear landing gear parts spearate nicely in half - for those who ave such landing gear and carefully pry them apart, you can probably customize a larger peice of "rubber" pencil eraser inside, thus making a more stable "slip-proof" piece. Another option, albeit a little more work and engineering ingenuity, is to get a piece of spring in place of the eraser.

Ok guys those "rubbers" i couldnt find here in america but im sure they are somewhere over here i just didnt have the time to find them so what i did have available to me was Styrofoam and i just cut a piece about the same shape and size of yours in this video @analog toys and it worked just the same as your rubber eraser did... for a more permanent solution later on i might do the hot water trick and push them back in place but this worked like a charm and exactly the same as the rubber trick... thanks for making this video,, your trick , a dawn dish liquid and toothbrush bath really helped me fix my new falcon i just bought,,, well,,, new to me, but works and functions 100% like the old days now,, hahahahahaha thanks again

@DSModeler4 жыл бұрын
Tony, I know that you use a piece of nylon fishing line to hang your Falcon on your wall. But please know that nylon fishing line will dry rott and you could find your prize piece smashed on the floor. I would use a piece of metal wire instead.

Okay. Well, I just dipped mine into boiling water to soften the plastic, then pried the clips outward, ran under cold water to set, reinstalled and they work perfect.

The whole thing was crap. The struts wouldn't stay up, the boarding ramp fell straight off, the droid compartment was useless and the radar fell off! When ever I see a retro TV show that has one stood docked with the radar on top I know it's wrong.

Why does it look so compressed? Is it due to the camera?
